WooCommerce itself costs $0 per month and takes no revenue share. Your recurring bill comes from VPS hosting, payment processing, and any extensions you add. WooCommerce says most stores should budget approximately $25–$350 per month for hosting (about $300–$4,200 per year), while published VPS offers can sit below or above that range depending on resources, management, contract length, and renewal pricing.
Antihost offers managed WordPress hosting with free migration, one-click staging and a 14-day free trial.
The price that matters is not the promotional headline. Compare the full first-term commitment, the renewal rate, included backups and security, and the technical work you will have to do yourself.

What you are actually paying for
WooCommerce is a free, open-source commerce platform for WordPress. There is no monthly platform fee and no WooCommerce percentage taken from your sales. As WooCommerce puts it, “WooCommerce is free to download and use, and you choose where to invest your budget from there.”
That freedom shifts the cost decision to the infrastructure around the store. A useful budget separates these items:
#1 Best Overall
| Cost component | Published amount or treatment | What changes the bill |
|---|---|---|
| WooCommerce software | $0 per month; no revenue share | Nothing for the core plugin; optional additions cost extra |
| VPS hosting | WooCommerce’s planning range is about $25–$350 per month for most stores | CPU, RAM, storage, traffic, management, geography, contract term and renewal rate |
| Extensions | $29–$299 per year per extension | How many paid extensions you use and their renewal terms |
| Payment processing | Additional; the amount depends on your payment provider and transactions | Sales volume, transaction mix and provider pricing |
The hosting range is a planning guide, not a quote. A small catalogue with modest traffic may work below its lower end, while a busy store with subscriptions, memberships, custom code or B2B pricing can require a larger VPS and more operational support.
Published VPS price examples
Advertised VPS prices differ because they describe different products and contract conditions. The examples below are benchmarks reported in 2025–2026, not universal prices.
| Offer type | Published introductory price | Published renewal price | Published resources or inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Managed WooCommerce cloud VPS | ScalaHosting: $14.95/month | $29.95/month | 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM and 50 GB SSD for the cited entry tier |
| Higher managed cloud VPS tier | ScalaHosting: $69.95/month | $165.95/month | Top tier cited by TechRadar; the source excerpt does not state additional resources |
| Premium managed VPS | OppaHost plans start at €120/month | Not stated | WAF, backups, migration and premium email/WhatsApp support included |
Annualizing the ScalaHosting monthly equivalents gives roughly $179.40 for the first 12 months and $359.40 at the cited entry renewal rate. The higher tier works out to about $839.40 initially and $1,991.40 at renewal. Those calculations assume the quoted monthly equivalent applies for 12 months; they are not a claim about the provider’s actual invoice schedule. OppaHost’s starting figure is approximately €1,440 over 12 months if charged monthly at the stated rate, with no renewal figure established in the published example.
Why introductory and renewal prices are so different
A low first-term rate may require a long commitment, while the renewal price applies after that term ends. For a fair comparison, record four numbers before ordering:
Rank #2
- New
- Mint Condition
- Dispatch same day for order received before 12 noon
- Guaranteed packaging
- No quibbles returns
- Billing interval: monthly, annual or a longer prepaid term.
- Initial commitment: the number of months covered by the promotional rate.
- Renewal amount: the recurring price after the promotion, including any different tax or currency treatment.
- Cancellation and migration terms: notice requirements, refund rules and how you can retrieve a complete site backup.
Do not multiply an introductory price by 12 and call it the long-term cost unless the provider explicitly bills that way. A four-year commitment can make a monthly equivalent look inexpensive while requiring a large payment up front. Conversely, a monthly plan may cost more but preserve the option to move the store before a renewal increase.
Managed versus self-managed WooCommerce VPS
The largest practical price difference is often the service layer, not the virtual machine itself.
Managed VPS
Managed hosting transfers recurring operational work to the provider. The OppaHost example bundles a web application firewall, backups, migration assistance and premium email/WhatsApp support into its €120-per-month starting plan. Those inclusions have value if you do not have staff available to configure, monitor and recover the server.
Managed plans can also provide a clearer escalation path when a plugin update, security event or traffic spike affects checkout. Read the service definition carefully: “managed” does not automatically mean that every WordPress problem, custom-code bug or third-party integration is included.

Self-managed VPS
A self-managed VPS generally gives you root-level control and a lower service overhead. Bluehost describes a self-managed VPS model in which the owner retains that control. You also retain responsibility for operating-system patches, web-server and PHP configuration, firewall rules, malware response, backup verification, restore testing, database tuning and incident response.
The cash price can be attractive when you already have Linux and WordPress administration skills. If you must hire someone for those tasks, include that labor in the hosting decision; otherwise the apparent saving is not a complete total-cost comparison.
Performance-focused managed resources
Liquid Web describes dedicated virtual resources and managed options for stores that need more performance. Dedicated allocations can reduce contention with other customers, but the right choice still depends on your workload, cache configuration and application efficiency rather than on a CPU or RAM number alone.
How store complexity changes the required VPS
Resource demand rises as the store performs more work per request and serves more simultaneous shoppers. The following characteristics are specifically associated with a stronger VPS fit:
Rank #4
- Many active plugins that run on product, cart or checkout pages.
- Custom functionality or code that cannot be moved to a standard shared configuration.
- Subscriptions or memberships that create recurring jobs and account activity.
- B2B pricing, customer-specific catalogues or other database-heavy rules.
- Higher traffic, larger catalogues, more frequent imports or resource-intensive search.
Start with measured resource use rather than a fashionable plan size. Watch CPU saturation, memory pressure, storage growth, database response time and PHP worker queues during normal and peak periods. A plan with more cores but insufficient memory can still struggle, and extra RAM cannot repair slow application code.
A practical way to calculate your first-year and ongoing cost
- Set the store budget: choose a provisional hosting band inside or outside WooCommerce’s $25–$350 monthly guidance based on traffic and functionality.
- Separate promotional and recurring prices: place the introductory amount and renewal amount in separate columns.
- Normalize the term: convert each quoted monthly equivalent to 12 months for comparison, while preserving the required prepayment.
- Add paid extensions: multiply the $29–$299 annual range by the number of extensions you expect to renew. Do not assume every extension is at the low or high end.
- Price administration: for self-managed hosting, estimate the time or contractor cost for patching, backups, security and recovery. For managed hosting, verify which of those services are included.
- Check variable charges: confirm whether the offer has traffic, storage, backup-retention or support limits, and keep payment-processing costs separate because they depend on transactions.
- Model year two: use the renewal rate, not the introductory rate, and include extension renewals and any planned resource upgrade.
Three cost scenarios
Small store with a simple catalogue
A low-traffic store with few plugins may fit an entry VPS. The ScalaHosting benchmark of $14.95 per month introductory and $29.95 at renewal illustrates why the first-year and later-year totals should be shown separately. Even at this size, budget for backups, security maintenance and at least the extensions the checkout actually requires.

Growing store with regular campaigns
As traffic, product imports and plugin activity increase, a managed tier near the middle of WooCommerce’s $25–$350 guidance may be easier to operate than the cheapest server. The value comes from predictable support and recovery procedures as much as from additional virtual resources.
Complex subscription, membership or B2B store
These stores may need higher CPU and memory allocations, stronger database performance and a support team familiar with WooCommerce operations. Premium managed pricing such as OppaHost’s €120-per-month starting point can be rational when WAF protection, backups, migration and high-touch support replace work that would otherwise require internal staff.

What to compare beyond the headline monthly price
| Comparison area | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Total first-year cost | What is paid upfront, and what does the complete first term total? |
| Renewal cost | What exact price applies after the promotion, and when does it begin? |
| Compute and storage | How many dedicated or shared CPU resources, how much RAM and what SSD capacity are included? |
| Traffic and limits | Are visits, bandwidth, storage, backups or processes capped or metered? |
| Operations | Who patches the server, monitors it, hardens security and investigates incidents? |
| Backups and recovery | How often are backups made, how long are they retained and can you perform a full restore? |
| Support | Which channels are available, and is response time defined for an outage? |
| Scalability | Can CPU, RAM or storage be upgraded without a disruptive migration? |
| Data-center geography | Is a suitable region available for your customers and compliance requirements? |
| Exit terms | Can you cancel, export the database and files, and move DNS without a lock-in penalty? |
When the cheapest VPS is not the cheapest option
The cheapest advertised VPS is only the cheapest choice if it can keep checkout reliable and the work needed to operate it fits your skills. A self-managed server may have the lowest invoice but expose the store to missed patches, untested backups or slow recovery. A managed plan may cost more while reducing those operational risks.
Conversely, paying for a premium tier before the store needs it wastes budget. Begin with a plan that has measurable headroom, establish monitoring and upgrade when sustained usage—not a one-day spike—shows that CPU, memory, storage or database capacity is limiting performance.

- Save the renewal price and renewal date in your finance calendar.
- Keep an independent copy of the WordPress files, database and media library.
- Document DNS, email, cron jobs, payment webhooks and server-side settings before changing providers.
- Test a restoration on a staging environment instead of assuming that a backup file is usable.
- Review the contract before the cancellation window closes, especially after a long promotional term.
- Recheck currency, tax, data-center location and resource limits when comparing a replacement VPS.
WooCommerce’s cost model is intentionally flexible: “WooCommerce offers unmatched control over both costs and capabilities.” Use that control to compare the complete operating cost, not simply the number beside “per month.”
