The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says the ad-free option costs an extra AU$2.99 per month. Prices and offers can change; these figures were checked against sources dated through 7 October 2026.
Amazon Prime and Prime Video: the Australian prices
The AU$9.99 monthly and AU$79 annual prices are for Amazon Prime, a membership bundle that includes Prime Video as well as other benefits—not a standalone video-only plan. Amazon lists Prime Video as included at no extra cost with Prime, with viewing available on a TV, tablet, mobile device or web browser. Amazon Australia’s Prime membership page describes the local service; Amazon’s July 2026 announcement states the monthly and annual prices.

Is annual billing cheaper?
Yes, if you would otherwise keep Prime for all 12 months and can pay upfront. Twelve monthly payments at AU$9.99 total AU$119.88. Compared with that calculated total, the AU$79 annual price is AU$40.88 less over a year. This is a calculation from Amazon’s published prices, not a separately advertised saving; it does not account for a trial or other offer.
What does the ad-free surcharge mean?
The ACCC says that after ads were introduced to Prime Video in July 2024, subscribers who wanted to maintain ad-free streaming had to pay an additional AU$2.99 per month. That Australian surcharge makes monthly Prime plus the ad-free option AU$12.98, before any separately priced content. The ACCC’s statement is the basis for the surcharge figure; it should not be confused with Prime Video plan names or prices in the United States or other countries. The ACCC’s 2026 release also describes court proceedings and allegations about how the ads were introduced. Those are allegations, not a finding that a court has held Amazon liable.

What is not included in the membership price?
The membership fee does not necessarily cover every item visible in Prime Video. Some films or programmes may be offered as separate rentals or purchases, while Channels are add-on subscriptions. There is no definitive current Australia-specific Channels price list established here, so check the price shown in your Australian account before subscribing, renting or buying. The same checkout check is sensible for promotions, which can vary over time.
How to check your trial and renewal price
- Open Amazon Australia’s Prime membership page and sign in to the account you plan to use.
- Review the offer displayed for that account, including whether the 30-day trial is available to you. Amazon’s July 2026 announcement describes the trial for new customers; it is not a guarantee of eligibility for every account.
- Before confirming, check whether signup is set to monthly or annual billing and note the price that will apply after any trial or promotion.
- For ad-free viewing, Channels, rentals or purchases, inspect the corresponding option and local checkout price separately.
Which option makes sense?
- Choose monthly billing if you want the lower upfront commitment or may cancel before a full year.
- Choose annual billing if you expect to use the broader Prime membership for the full year and prefer the lower calculated cost over 12 months.
- Add ad-free viewing only if avoiding ads is worth the additional monthly charge to you.
- Check individual titles and Channels when a specific show or film is the reason you are subscribing; membership does not guarantee every visible title is included.
