A small managed Arma 3 server costs roughly $8–$25 per month in published 2026 examples. Apex lists 2 GB of RAM at $5.99 for the first month and $7.99 recurring; Nitrado US lists 10 slots for $16.19 per 30 days and 20 slots for $24.99 per 30 days. Larger memory plans reach about $39 per month, while bigger public communities can spend $40 or more. Those are advertised prices, not universal totals: tax, currency, data-center location, billing term, backups, DDoS protection and optional tools can change the bill.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Arma 3 servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
You can also run a dedicated server on hardware you already own and avoid a separate hosting subscription. That is not entirely free, because electricity, internet service, maintenance, backups and possible hardware upgrades become your responsibility.

| Nitrado regional page, 10 slots for 30 days | €13.09 | Regional currency shows that there is no single worldwide price. |
| Nitrado regional page, 20 slots for 30 days | €19.99 | Confirm the local checkout total before paying. |
| GTX Gaming example cited by iTechGuides in 2026, 10 slots | £9.99 per month | Secondary-source benchmark; verify the provider’s current quote. |
| GTX Gaming example cited by iTechGuides in 2026, 40 slots and 8 GB RAM | £24.98 per month | Location surcharges, taxes and renewal terms may alter the total. |
| GTX Gaming example cited by iTechGuides in 2026, 80 slots and 12 GB RAM | £42.98 per month | Use as an indicative benchmark rather than a guaranteed price. |
In practical terms, budget about $8–$16 for a private group with modest requirements, $16–$25 for a small public server, and roughly $25–$45 or more for heavier modding or larger communities. Prices in dollars, euros and pounds are not direct currency equivalents, so compare the final amount in your own region.

What determines the real cost?
Arma 3 does not have a reliable “one slot equals one amount of RAM” rule. Bohemia Interactive’s FAQ says there is no universal technical hard limit on player count; a reasonable maximum depends on the selected scenario, server hardware and available bandwidth. A 20-slot mission with a heavy AI simulation can be more demanding than a simple 40-player scenario.
Player slots are only the first estimate
Slot count is the number of players the service lets you configure, not a promise that every mission will run smoothly at that size. AI units, scripted events, view distance, terrain, persistence systems and mod synchronization all consume CPU time, memory and network capacity. Treat the advertised slot count as a capacity setting and validate it against the missions your group actually plays.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Arma 3 simulation work is sensitive to processor performance and server-side frame rate. Two plans with the same memory allocation can behave differently if one uses a newer, faster CPU or gives you a larger share of a busy host machine. Ask what processor class or dedicated-resource policy applies instead of selecting a plan from RAM alone.
RAM and mod size
RAM holds the operating system, the server process, mission state, AI and loaded modifications. More memory helps prevent swapping and gives a modded installation room to grow, but it cannot compensate for a weak CPU or poor network path. The published Apex tiers illustrate the pricing pattern: 2 GB at $7.99 recurring, 6 GB at $22.49 recurring and 12 GB at $38.99 recurring. Those figures describe that provider’s packages, not an official Arma specification.

Location and connectivity
A data center near most players usually reduces latency and the chance of packet loss. A distant low-cost location can produce a worse experience than a slightly more expensive regional plan. Public reachability also matters: a server must be reachable from the internet, and the host must provide adequate bandwidth for the mission and player count.
Operations included in the package
Backups, DDoS mitigation, FTP or SFTP access, one-click mod installation, scheduled restarts, automatic updates and support may be included, limited or sold as add-ons. These features have a direct value when you do not want to administer a Linux or Windows machine yourself. Compare them before comparing headline prices.
How much RAM should you plan for?
Use a staged estimate rather than a rigid slot formula. For two to ten friends running relatively light missions, an entry plan around 2 GB may be sufficient if the provider’s CPU and mod set are modest. A small modded unit is better budgeted around 6 GB, then adjusted after observing memory use during real missions. A public or heavily modded community commonly belongs in a higher tier, such as 8–12 GB or more, together with stronger CPU resources.
- Private, lightly modded group: Start with the smallest plan that supports your mission files, then monitor memory and server performance.
- Small modded server: Compare plans around 6 GB and examine CPU allocation, storage, backups and mod-management tools.
- Large or heavily scripted community: Compare 8–12 GB and higher tiers, but prioritize CPU quality, location, protection and support as well as memory.
Leave headroom for peak use. A server that runs acceptably with five players can degrade when ten players join, AI numbers increase or several mods update at once.

Managed hosting versus self-hosting
Managed hosting
Managed hosting converts server administration into a recurring bill. The provider supplies an always-on machine, internet connection and control panel; depending on the package, it may also handle reboots, backups, updates, mod workflows and network protection. This is usually the simplest choice for a group that wants to play rather than maintain infrastructure.
The trade-off is limited control and a monthly charge that renews at the regular rate. A promotional first month is not a sustainable budget. For example, Apex’s 2 GB offer changes from $5.99 initially to $7.99 recurring, while its 12 GB offer changes from $29.24 to $38.99. Build your decision around the renewal amount.

If you already have a suitable computer that can remain online, self-hosting can eliminate a separate hosting subscription. Your incremental costs are electricity, bandwidth usage, maintenance time, backups and any upgrade needed to keep the machine stable. Internet service must permit inbound connections and provide enough upstream bandwidth.
Self-hosting also requires technical work. Bohemia Interactive’s dedicated-server documentation covers installing and updating with SteamCMD, opening the required TCP and UDP ports, making the server reachable from the internet, selecting the dedicated-server executable and port through startup parameters, and tuning bandwidth and message-rate settings. Configuration choices affect bandwidth use and lag, so a free machine can still deliver a poor experience if it is underpowered or badly configured.

Estimating self-hosting cost
- Price the electricity: Multiply the computer’s average wattage by the hours it will run and your local electricity rate. Include the router or other equipment that must stay on.
- Check your internet plan: Confirm upstream speed, data caps and whether your provider permits inbound game servers. A nominally free server is impractical if you must upgrade connectivity.
- Account for maintenance: Budget time for operating-system patches, SteamCMD updates, mod updates, restarts, log checks and troubleshooting.
- Add backup storage: Keep copies of mission files, configuration, profiles and saved data on a separate disk or service. Rebuilding after a drive failure can cost more time than a small hosting fee.
- Include hardware wear and upgrades: An always-on desktop may need additional RAM, storage, cooling or a replacement component.
Self-hosting is therefore “no hosting subscription,” not “zero cost.” It is most attractive when the hardware and reliable internet already exist and someone in the group is comfortable administering the server.
Can you host an Arma 3 server for free?
Yes, in the narrow sense that you can run the dedicated server on an existing computer without paying a hosting company. You still pay the indirect costs described above, and free public hosting offers often impose limits on uptime, CPU, memory, slots, locations or support. A free tier that sleeps when empty is unsuitable for a community that expects a persistent server.
For a private group, compare the value of your time with the lowest managed price. A published baseline is about $7.99 recurring for Apex’s 2 GB tier or $16.19 for 10 slots for 30 days on Nitrado US. If either amount saves repeated configuration work and keeps the server reachable, it may be cheaper overall than maintaining a home machine.
Do you need to buy Arma 3 to run a dedicated server?
The dedicated-server documentation describes a separate server installation workflow using SteamCMD, rather than launching the normal game client. The documents establish how to install and update the server software, but no universal licensing rule for every hosting arrangement is stated in those documents. Check the current Steam and Bohemia Interactive licensing terms for your exact deployment, especially if you plan to run a public commercial service. Do not assume that owning one player copy automatically answers every server-licensing question.
Best Value
A practical budget for common use cases
| Use case | Reasonable starting budget | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Two to ten friends, light missions | About $8–$16 per month managed, or self-hosting costs | CPU share, actual mission load, backups and whether 2 GB is enough. |
| Small modded unit | About $16–$25 per month | Around 6 GB RAM, mod installation workflow, storage and restart controls. |
| Public or heavily modded community | About $25–$45+ per month in the published examples | 8–12 GB or more, CPU quality, DDoS protection, location, support and renewal price. |
| Large slot count or demanding scenarios | Higher configurations may exceed $45 | Stress-test missions; slot count alone does not establish performance. |
These are planning ranges, not guarantees. A provider can charge more for a premium location or dedicated resources, while a lower-cost plan may be adequate for a light scenario.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChecklist before you buy
- Confirm the recurring price: Record the renewal amount separately from any first-month discount.
- Calculate the complete checkout total: Include tax, currency conversion, billing term and location surcharge.
- Match slots to your real mission: Ask how AI, scripts and mods affect CPU and memory use.
- Compare CPU information: Look for processor class, resource-sharing policy or performance limits.
- Choose a nearby data center: Place it close to the majority of players and verify latency.
- Check network reachability: Ensure required TCP and UDP ports, firewall rules and public addressing are supported.
- Inspect backup terms: Find out whether backups are automatic, how many copies are retained and whether restoration costs extra.
- Review mod tools: Determine whether Steam Workshop content, collections and updates can be managed through the panel or require manual file transfer.
- Ask about protection and support: DDoS mitigation, ticket response and emergency recovery can matter more than a few dollars of monthly savings.
- Check cancellation and data export: Make sure you can download missions, profiles and configuration before ending the service.
Bottom line for 2026
For most small groups, plan on $8–$25 per month for managed Arma 3 hosting, with the lower end covering basic private servers and the upper end covering more slots or resources. Heavier modding and public communities commonly move the budget toward $25–$45 or more. Self-hosting can remove the subscription when you already own suitable hardware, but electricity, bandwidth, maintenance and backups remain real expenses.
Choose by recurring total cost and expected mission load, not by slot count alone. Arma 3 capacity depends on scenario, hardware and available bandwidth, so the best-value server is the one with enough CPU, memory, network quality and operational support for the missions your players actually run.
