There is no standard price or universal infrastructure bill for AI agent security. Published examples range from per-user and monthly-tier software to quote-based platforms and six-figure annual contracts, but they cover different capabilities and use different billing units. Your full cost also depends on the agents you run, where controls are deployed, and how much security data you retain.

What does AI agent security cost?

Public prices are useful for setting a rough procurement frame, not for predicting what an organization will pay. A per-user subscription, a monthly plan with agent limits, a custom enterprise quote, and an annual Marketplace contract are not like-for-like offers. The examples below are prices stated by vendors or AWS Marketplace listings, accessed on October 3, 2026; they are not independent quotes or a market average.

Published example Price and billing basis What the listing describes
Microsoft Agent 365 $15 per user per month with an annual commitment, according to Microsoft’s page accessed October 3, 2026. A unified agent registry, usage insights, access and identity protection, and integration with Microsoft Defender and Purview. Confirm licensing prerequisites and what is included for your organization.
AgentShield The page accessed October 3, 2026 lists Developer at $39/month, Team at $159/month, and Scale at $599/month. It also displayed an Enterprise price of $749/month in the page material reviewed; verify the current plan table before relying on that tier or price. Paid plans with increasing agent capacity and controls. The vendor says prices are in USD; its interactive demo is free to try.
Operant AI Quote-based; no public price stated. The vendor says pricing depends on endpoints managed, agents in production, and governance needed across MCPs and AI applications.
Geordie AI on AWS Marketplace $100,000 per 12-month contract, according to the Marketplace listing accessed October 3, 2026. The listing bills in units but does not define how a unit maps to agent count or deployment scope. AWS says additional infrastructure charges may apply. Ask the seller to define the billable unit and estimate AWS charges separately.
Rogue Security on AWS Marketplace The listing accessed October 3, 2026 states $45,000 per 12 months for AIDR and $115,997 per 12 months for the Full Platform Bundle. Charges are by units, but the listing does not define the unit mapping. AIDR is described as runtime enforcement for coding agents, copilots, and browser-based agents. The bundle adds shadow-AI discovery and agent inventory, red teaming and runtime guardrails, and an engineering deployment package.

Why the headline price is not the total

Ask what each billable unit means: a user, endpoint, agent, environment, deployment, or usage measure. Confirm the commitment period, included counts and integrations, onboarding and support fees, overages, renewal terms, and taxes. For Marketplace products, establish exactly what a unit covers and whether cloud infrastructure is additional.

Logging can also carry separate ingestion, retention, and transfer costs. For example, Elastic’s Serverless Security pricing lists ingestion, retained data, and egress as metered components. Those rates apply to Elastic’s product; they should not be treated as a general price for other logging systems.

What infrastructure do you need?

Agent security is not just a monitoring product. It depends on knowing what agents exist, assigning them identities, limiting their authority, observing their actions, and deciding who can intervene. NIST’s December 2025 initial preliminary draft of IR 8596 identifies models, APIs, keys, agents, data, integrations, and permissions as assets to manage. It recommends that each agent have a unique identity and credentials, treated with precautions used for privileged users, and that identities be bound to credentials through cryptographic signing and mutual authentication. These are draft recommendations, not a finalized standard: NIST IR 8596, initial preliminary draft, page 60.

1. Inventory and ownership

Keep an inventory of agents, models, APIs, keys, data sources, integrations, tools and MCP servers, owners, environments, and granted permissions. Assign responsibility for approving onboarding, changes, and retirement. Without an inventory, you cannot reliably scope coverage or know which credentials and connections to review when an agent changes.

2. Identity and credentials

Give each agent a distinct identity and credentials rather than letting it share a human account or a broadly privileged service account. Scope credentials to the task, environment, and time they are needed; rotate or revoke them when the agent or its owner changes. Treat these credentials as privileged access, and make sure authentication controls bind identity to agent interactions.

3. Least-privilege authorization

Grant only the data, tools, actions, and agent-to-agent access required for the task. Require approval for consequential or irreversible actions where appropriate. Access control must be configured in the organization’s identity and authorization systems; a security product’s feature list does not establish or enforce your policies by itself. Microsoft describes Agent 365 as controlling which users, data, tools, and MCP servers agents can use, but buyers should verify how those controls integrate with their own environment.

4. Runtime boundaries and response

Decide which activity should be observed, alerted on, blocked, redacted, or paused for human approval. Threat cases to account for include prompt injection in untrusted text, over-broad tool permissions, data exfiltration, unexpected action sequences, and malicious or changed tools. AgentShield claims runtime firewall features including prompt-injection blocking, permission enforcement, and action logs; Operant describes agent runtime monitoring and MCP traffic security. Those are vendor descriptions, not independent findings of effectiveness. Test whether controls act inline and what happens when a policy blocks a legitimate task.

5. Logs, monitoring, and incident handling

Capture an auditable record of agent identity, relevant request and response context as policy permits, tool calls, authorization decisions, data movement, and outcomes. Connect detections to the security operations process, and define who can suspend credentials or disable an agent. Plan log ingestion, search, retention, and transfer around investigative and compliance needs; those choices affect operating cost as well as evidence quality.

6. Deployment and operational ownership

Choose whether the control is vendor-hosted, deployed in a customer VPC, on premises, or air-gapped. Determine where traffic, prompts, logs, and credentials reside, and who patches and monitors the components and handles incidents or availability failures. Operant lists VPC, on-premises, and air-gapped enterprise deployments as options. Private deployment changes operational responsibilities, but the cited vendor pages do not establish a general infrastructure premium or staffing cost; request a deployment-specific design and quote.

7. Procurement and measurement

Before requesting a quote, measure the fleet and workload rather than relying on a guessed agent count. Record users, agents, endpoints, environments, calls or actions, peak concurrency, log volume, and required retention. Ask the vendor to map every billable unit to that inventory and explain scaling, minimum commitments, overages, renewal, support, and included integrations. Also identify existing licenses and cloud costs that could change the incremental spend.

How should you compare security options?

Compare capabilities and cost boundaries before ranking products by headline price. A platform that covers only one agent type or environment may not meet the same need as a broader governance or runtime-control system.

Comparison area Questions to ask
Coverage Does the product cover custom agents, SaaS agents, coding agents, MCP servers, endpoints, or only a subset?
Identity and authorization Does it support unique identities, scoped credentials, delegation, revocation, and least privilege? How does it integrate with your identity provider?
Runtime control Does it observe, alert, block, redact, or pause for human approval? Which controls are enforced inline?
Discovery and posture Can it find unknown agents and map their permissions, tools, and data connections?
Evidence Which events are logged, how long are they retained, and can they be exported to SIEM or security operations systems?
Deployment Is it SaaS, VPC, on premises, or air-gapped? Where do traffic, prompts, credentials, and logs go, and who operates the deployment?
Price basis Is billing per user, endpoint, agent, unit, usage, or custom quote? Precisely what counts as one unit?
Full cost Are cloud compute, storage, egress, onboarding, support, or overages billed separately?

How to build a realistic budget

Separate the budget into the security software contract, deployment and integration work, identity and authorization changes, and security telemetry and operations. For each category, record the owner, what is already available, what must be added, and which usage or retention assumptions drive the estimate. Then request quotes against the same inventory and deployment assumptions. That produces a more useful comparison than treating unlike public prices as a market range.

No market-wide average is established by these published examples. Your annual total remains dependent on your fleet, environments, usage and logging volumes, retention, deployment choice, and existing licenses; price the actual design and validate contract units directly with each vendor.
