A professional flight training simulator can cost about $49,900 for an entry-level approved aviation training device, hundreds of thousands of dollars for many aircraft-specific flight training devices, or $5 million to $15 million for a customized Level B–D full flight simulator. These are manufacturer-published starting or typical prices—not guaranteed installed project totals—and the device class, aircraft, qualification, options, and included services all matter.
Professional flight simulator price ranges
“Simulator” can refer to devices with very different capabilities and regulatory status. Compare prices by device class and intended training use, rather than treating every product as an interchangeable cockpit simulator.

AATD: entry-level professional training
Redbird lists its SD as an FAA-approved AATD at $49,900. It is an enclosed, non-motion device, not a motion-based full flight simulator. Redbird also lists an SD/cl at $59,900 with a control-loading yoke, and an SD-E at $85,900 with an EASA FNPT II qualification kit. These different configurations show why it is important to compare what is actually included, not just the base model name. Redbird Flight

RTD: configurable general-aviation device
Frasca’s 2021 entry RTD example is a $50,000 starting configuration for a single aircraft model, steam-gauge cockpit, and single-channel visual system. Options such as representing multiple aircraft, using G1000 NXi avionics, or adding visual channels can take the price to $120,000 or more. Frasca International
FTD: aircraft-specific training device
Frasca’s 2021 published starting figures rise to about $200,000 for fixed-wing piston aircraft and about $700,000 for turboprop or jet aircraft. Its helicopter FTD range is broader—about $350,000 to $4 million—because aircraft complexity and features vary substantially. These figures are not a universal price list for every aircraft or qualification. Frasca International

FFS: high-fidelity full flight simulator
Frasca says its customized Level B–D FFS devices typically cost $5 million to $15 million, with characteristics such as six-axis motion, control loading, advanced visuals, instructor stations, exact cockpit replicas, and aircraft data packages. This is a complex procurement category, not simply a more expensive version of an entry AATD. Frasca International

Why two quotes can differ sharply
Price depends on the training requirement and the requested configuration. Relevant cost drivers include the aircraft represented, qualification level and applicable authority, motion and control loading, visual system, avionics, customer-specific customization, OEM aircraft parts, and access to aircraft design or manufacturer data. Frasca also notes that FFS approval involves initial approval and recurring quarterly tests. Frasca International

Redbird’s SD configurations illustrate how the same product family can have different prices depending on control loading or an EASA qualification kit. A low-cost desktop or gaming setup, by contrast, is not automatically an approved professional training device.

A listed device price may not cover the work and services needed to put it into operation. Redbird explicitly excludes shipping, installation, and training from its SD prices. The company says the SD includes a one-year warranty and support; service agreements are available for an additional charge after the initial warranty. Frasca also identifies installation, training, customer service, and warranty as factors to consider when comparing prices. Redbird Flight Frasca International

Regulatory charges can be separate from the equipment purchase, and they depend on the authority and configuration. EASA’s 2025 fee schedule lists €13,590 for FTD qualification approval in a single-engine/configuration example and €32,110 for FFS in that example. These are EASA fees for the stated examples—not simulator purchase prices, universal qualification costs, or FAA fees. Check the current schedule and scope applicable to the buyer’s device and location. EASA fees and charges

Ask vendors to quote the same scope. A useful request should identify:
- The aircraft model represented and cockpit configuration.
- The qualification or approval sought, and the regulator or authority that applies.
- Whether motion and control loading are included.
- The visual system and number of channels.
- Included avionics, aircraft data packages, and any licensing terms.
- Instructor station, monitoring, and debriefing features.
- Shipping, installation, site preparation, and buyer training.
- Warranty coverage, software or database updates, and ongoing service or support.
- Approval work, recurring tests or renewal requirements, and the buyer’s responsibilities.
These questions reflect the configuration and cost factors manufacturers identify; suppliers may bundle them differently. Request a line-item breakdown and clarify whether each item is included, optional, or the buyer’s responsibility.
What budget should you plan for?
- For an entry-level approved device: manufacturer examples begin around $50,000, before excluded shipping, installation, and training where applicable.
- For an aircraft-specific FTD: expect a substantially larger budget; Frasca’s published starting examples range from about $200,000 for piston aircraft to about $700,000 for turboprop or jet aircraft, with helicopter examples reaching $4 million.
- For a customized Level B–D FFS: Frasca’s published typical range is $5 million to $15 million, and the project scope, approval requirements, installation, training, and continuing support need to be established in the quote.
There is no single universal installed price in these published examples. The amount for a specific aircraft, qualification, configuration, jurisdiction, and installation scope requires a current, scope-specific vendor quote.
