For two people, the lowest official Minecraft Realms price is $3.99 USD per month on Bedrock Edition. That tier allows the owner and up to two other simultaneous players, so two people can play with one subscription. Java Edition Realms costs $7.99 USD per month and allows the owner plus up to 10 other simultaneous players. Both prices are recurring, can change, and should be confirmed at checkout.

Each player must own the matching Minecraft edition. The invited friend does not need a separate Realms subscription, but console players may need a separate platform online-multiplayer subscription.

Minecraft Realms is Mojang’s hosted, always-online server service. The owner pays the subscription and controls invitations and worlds. For a two-person group, the relevant prices are:
| Option | Monthly price | Simultaneous capacity | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bedrock Realms | $3.99 USD, recurring | Owner plus two other players | Two people using Bedrock-compatible devices |
| Java Realms | $7.99 USD, recurring | Owner plus 10 other players | Two people using Java Edition on Windows, macOS or Linux |
| Bedrock Realms Plus | $7.99 USD, recurring | Owner plus 10 other players | Bedrock players who also want the rotating Marketplace Pass catalog |
For exactly two participants, Bedrock Realms at $3.99 per month is the least expensive official subscription when both players use Bedrock Edition. Java players cannot use that Bedrock plan; they need Java Realms at $7.99 per month.

- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
If the listed rate stayed unchanged for 12 months, the simple subscription totals would be $47.88 for Bedrock Realms and $95.88 for Java Realms. Those are arithmetic illustrations, not guaranteed annual prices; the service bills monthly and rates may change.
What the subscription includes
An always-online world
Realms keeps the hosted world available even when its owner is offline. Minecraft describes the service this way: “Your Realm is always online, so your friends can play anytime.” That convenience is the main reason to choose Realms over running a world from a personal computer. Your friend can join an invited Realm without waiting for the owner to start a local session.
Recommended Free Tools
Backups and world slots
The subscription includes free backups and three world slots. Slots let the owner keep multiple worlds associated with the Realm and switch between them rather than maintaining only one active save. Backups provide a recovery option if a world is damaged or an unwanted change needs to be reversed. Minecraft’s feature information does not specify a retention duration or a guaranteed number of restore points, so do not treat the feature as unlimited archival storage.
Owner-managed invitations
The subscriber manages who can access the Realm. Invited friends do not buy their own Realms subscription. They still need Minecraft in the correct edition, and access depends on the owner keeping the invitation active.

Trial and renewal terms
Minecraft advertises a 30-day trial for eligible users. Eligibility can depend on the account or offer shown at signup, so the checkout screen is the authority for your account. A trial or paid subscription auto-renews unless it is canceled. Check the renewal date and cancellation controls when subscribing if you do not want another billing period.
Java and Bedrock are separate choices
Edition compatibility determines which price applies. A Bedrock Realm accepts Bedrock players on supported Bedrock devices and consoles. A Java Realm accepts Java players using Windows, macOS or Linux. Java and Bedrock cannot share one Realm: a Java player must join a Java-hosted game, and a Bedrock player must join a Bedrock-hosted game.
| Question | Bedrock Realms | Java Realms |
|---|---|---|
| Who can join? | Players using supported Bedrock devices and consoles | Java Edition players on Windows, macOS or Linux |
| Owner plus other simultaneous players | Owner plus two | Owner plus 10 |
| Price checked on October 15, 2026 | $3.99/month | $7.99/month |
| Can it share a Realm with the other edition? | No | No |
Decide the edition both people already own before comparing subscriptions. Buying the cheaper Bedrock tier does not provide a way for a Java player to connect, and paying for Java Realms does not make a Bedrock console client compatible.
The complete cost of a two-person Realm
The advertised subscription is only one line in the budget. Check each of these costs before signing up.
Rank #3
1. The Realms subscription
Budget $3.99 per month for Bedrock Realms or $7.99 per month for Java Realms at the rates checked on October 15, 2026. They are recurring subscriptions rather than one-time server purchases. Prices are time-sensitive and may vary by market, taxes or later price changes, so use the final checkout amount for your location.
2. Minecraft for each player
Every participant needs to own the matching Minecraft edition. The game purchase is separate from Realms. A friend who has not purchased the required edition cannot join merely because the owner has paid for hosting. Current game prices are not established here, so they should be checked separately for the platform and region involved.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3. Console online-multiplayer fees
On consoles, the platform may require its own online-multiplayer subscription. That fee is sold separately from Realms and is not included in the $3.99 or $7.99 server charge. Whether it applies depends on the console account and the platform’s current rules; verify it before calculating the household total.
4. Optional add-ons and Marketplace content
Ordinary Bedrock Realms does not include the Realms Plus Marketplace Pass catalog. Bedrock Realms Plus costs $7.99 per month and includes access to a rotating Marketplace Pass catalog while retaining the owner-plus-10 simultaneous-player limit. Choose Plus only if that catalog matters; it is not required to host two Bedrock players.

- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
5. Content bought by either player
Any additional add-ons or Marketplace content outside the included Plus catalog can create a separate expense. Minecraft’s official price information does not define a universal add-on cost, so treat optional content as a separate, item-specific purchase rather than part of the base server price.
What two players actually receive for $3.99 or $7.99
A two-person Bedrock group pays for capacity above its actual headcount: the $3.99 tier supports the owner and two other simultaneous players, or three people at once. A two-person Java group pays $7.99 for capacity for 11 people total. The difference is therefore not a two-player versus two-player plan; it is an edition-based product structure with different limits.
Both editions provide the core hosted-server conveniences: an always-online Realm, free backups, three world slots and invitations controlled by the owner. The main functional difference for this decision is compatibility and the simultaneous-player allowance. Realms Plus adds a content catalog to Bedrock; it does not create Java compatibility.
Is Realms cheaper than renting a Minecraft server?
There is no single honest price for every third-party rented server. A comparison requires a specific provider, hardware allocation, storage limit, location, uptime target, billing term and included support. Because those variables differ, no universal monthly figure applies to rented hosting.
Best Value
When Realms is the simpler value
- You want a world that remains online without leaving one player’s computer running.
- You prefer a predictable monthly charge instead of configuring a server.
- Free backups and three world slots meet your world-management needs.
- You want the owner to manage invitations through Minecraft rather than administer a separate control panel.
When rented hosting may make sense
- You need technical controls or server software that Realms does not expose.
- You require a specific memory, storage, geographic location or uptime configuration.
- You are willing to compare provider limits, backup policies, support and cancellation terms.
A rented service could be cheaper, more expensive or similar in price to Realms depending on those choices. Compare the complete monthly bill and included features, not a headline introductory rate.
What about self-hosting?
Self-hosting means running the server on hardware you control or on a rented virtual machine. Its cost cannot be reduced to one standard number. A meaningful estimate needs the computer or VPS specification, expected uptime, electricity rate, network arrangement and any software or backup costs.
Self-hosting can provide more technical control than Realms, but the owner becomes responsible for keeping the machine available, maintaining the server, protecting saves and handling recovery. If the goal is simply for two friends to enter a world without administration, the official subscription trades that work for a recurring fee.
How to choose the cheapest workable setup
- Identify the edition. Confirm whether both players use Bedrock or both use Java. If the editions differ, select separate compatible games; one Realm cannot bridge them.
- Count simultaneous players. For two people, Bedrock Realms’ owner-plus-two capacity is sufficient. Java Realms’ owner-plus-10 capacity is substantially larger than required but is the Java option listed by Minecraft.
- List mandatory purchases. Add the matching Minecraft purchase for anyone who does not already own it and check whether a console online-multiplayer subscription is required.
- Decide whether content extras matter. Select standard Bedrock Realms if hosting is all you need. Select Realms Plus only when the rotating Marketplace Pass catalog justifies the higher Bedrock price.
- Check the trial and renewal screen. If your account is eligible for the advertised 30-day trial, note when billing begins and how auto-renewal is canceled.
- Compare alternatives by requirements. For a rented server or self-hosted machine, obtain a provider-specific quote or calculate hardware, electricity, storage, backup and uptime costs before calling it cheaper.
Common mistakes that increase the real cost
- Comparing editions by price alone: the $3.99 Bedrock plan cannot host a Java player.
- Assuming the friend needs a subscription: invited friends do not need their own Realms subscription, although they do need the game and matching edition.
- Forgetting console fees: a console’s online-multiplayer requirement can sit outside the Realm bill.
- Treating Realms Plus as required: standard Bedrock Realms is enough for hosting; Plus is for its additional catalog.
- Ignoring renewal: a trial or paid plan auto-renews unless canceled.
- Expecting Java-Bedrock cross-play: the two editions require separate hosted games.
Bottom line for a two-person server
Choose Bedrock Realms at $3.99 per month when both players use Bedrock and want the lowest official, always-online option. Choose Java Realms at $7.99 per month when both use Java Edition. In either case, budget separately for Minecraft ownership, possible console online fees and optional content, and verify the current checkout price before subscribing.
