What happens after you place a preorder?
Limited Run Games says its products are bespoke and manufactured to demand. The preorder window is the period in which customers can order the edition; the company says it cannot begin final manufacturing until that window closes. The window, edition contents and any stated quantity are specific to the product page. There is no universal production-run size for every release.

For editions with multiple physical components, work may proceed through several stages. The live status page describes stages such as design, sampling, production, assembly and manufacturing complete. These labels explain where work is, but a status is not itself a dispatch date.
Design and creative work
For collector editions, this stage can include designing components, packaging and labels, along with approvals from developers and partners.

Sampling and approval
Limited Run Games works with manufacturing partners on samples and submits them to developers for approval. Revisions are typical, and significant changes can extend this stage.
Production
The company describes production as typically the longest stage because components can have different manufacturing times.
Final assembly
After components are manufactured, they travel to an assembly facility, where the collector edition is put together.

Manufacturing complete
This means the edition is ready to move toward fulfillment, not necessarily that a parcel is already on its way to you. The status description allows for transit from the assembly partner and processing at the warehouse before shipment.
How long do Limited Run Games orders take?
In its General Shipping Information article dated March 18, 2026, Limited Run Games gives a general estimate of four to ten months for preorder products to ship after the preorder window closes, depending on complexity. Its order FAQ gives a related estimate: standard edition games generally ship within four months, while collector editions can take up to ten months, also depending on complexity. These are company estimates, not promised delivery dates.
In-hand items are different: the same shipping article says they can take up to two weeks to ship, depending on the shipping team’s volume. Shipping time is not the same as delivery time; transit and carrier handling follow dispatch.

Use the product page and current tracker for the title-specific estimate and notes. The tracker can change over time, so a date or stage listed for another release is not a reliable forecast for your order.

- Open the product page. Review the production status and shipping estimate shown for the title.
- Open the Pre-Order Status page. Find the title and read its current stage, estimated window, last update month and notes.
- Check your account. Review order history and any estimated shipping dates associated with the order.
- Check your email. For eligible Purple Dot preorders, use the Manage Pre-orders portal and reference information sent by email. Limited Run Games says a change to the shipping date triggers an automatic email. If a title is marked delayed but you did not receive the production-team update, check spam.
- Contact support about an order-specific problem. Submit a ticket with your order number and relevant details if an expected update is missing or you need help interpreting your order’s status.
What production-run size should you expect?
Do not assume every Limited Run Games title has the same quantity or that every release is capped at a numbered run. Read the edition’s own product page for any stated limit and terms. For example, the official Another World Nintendo Switch product page describes that particular edition as limited to 1,000 copies; that figure applies to that product, not to the company’s releases generally. The page showed the item as sold out when checked on October 4, 2026, so it should not be treated as currently available.
A stated quantity and a preorder window answer different questions: the product page tells you whether the specific edition has a stated cap, while the window tells you when orders are being accepted. Do not infer that a sold-out numbered edition will be restocked.

How shipping, combined orders and tracking work
Limited Run Games says it ships worldwide, subject to restrictions in some countries. Shipping cost is calculated at checkout based on parcel weight, item count and destination.
If an order contains several preorders, the selected shipping service may hold the entire order until every title is complete. Check the shipping arrangement for your order and the status of each title; one slower item can affect dispatch of the group.

The company’s March 18, 2026 shipping guidance says tracking may take 14–21 days to update and considers a package lost after 21 days without movement for domestic and international shipments. This is support guidance, not a guarantee that every carrier or destination will produce scans on that schedule. For a parcel that appears lost, check the latest support instructions and open a ticket when appropriate.

- Shipping damage: Contact support with photos of the damage and your order number. The company says remedies, including a possible replacement or refund, are reviewed case by case.
- Marked delivered but not received: The order-support article says to contact support within 90 days of the recorded delivery date.
Can you change or cancel a preorder?
Limited Run Games says preorders can be cancelled through the Purple Dot self-service portal. During the preorder window, changes can be made by cancelling the original order and placing a new one. The company says it cannot add items to an existing preorder or merge separate orders into one shipment.
For in-hand item cancellations, contact support; the company refers those requests for review. An order cannot be cancelled after digital content has been issued.
Returns and exchanges
The order-support article says customers may request a return or exchange within 90 days of delivery, with eligibility reviewed case by case. Items with an emailed digital key cannot be returned; the stated exception does not apply to keys printed inside a sealed box. Vault items have separate final-sale terms, including limited remedies for damage. Check the current support page for the policy that applies to your specific item and location.
What to compare before ordering two editions
If you are deciding between editions or planning an order around a deadline, compare the details that affect contents and timing rather than relying on the announcement date alone:
