LemonLink is a web service its creator describes as wrapping a URL in a shareable link and reporting whether a human or AI opened it—and when. It is aimed at a practical uncertainty after sharing a pitch deck, demo, article, or video: whether anyone actually opened it or if they used AI for it. The creator presents it as an experimental project and invites people to try to break it and suggest improvements.
What LemonLink is intended to do
The project’s stated flow is simple: provide a URL, share the resulting LemonLink, and check whether it was opened by a human or AI and at what time. The project description appears in a DEV Community post; a Hacker News project post repeats the description and links to a sample share URL. Those descriptions explain the intended purpose, but do not independently establish how well the service performs.

Why track a shared link this way?
A conventional share can leave its sender unsure whether a recipient opened it. LemonLink’s proposed distinction is between a person viewing the material and AI using it. That could be useful when sharing pitch decks, demos, articles, or videos, where knowing whether a link was accessed may inform a follow-up. The project description does not establish that an open proves a person read, watched, or understood the content.
What is not established about detection
The available project descriptions do not explain how LemonLink distinguishes humans from AI. They do not define what qualifies as an AI opening or say how the service treats automated link-preview fetches and unfurling by messaging apps. No accuracy measurements are given. As a result, the human-versus-AI label should be understood as the tool’s stated goal, not as a verified identification capability.

Questions to consider before sharing sensitive links
The descriptions also do not state what data LemonLink collects, how long it retains activity records, what privacy or security controls it offers, whether it is paid, or whether the service is currently available. If a link points to confidential material, verify those details with the service before using it. The project post’s invitation to test the tool and provide feedback is a sign that it is being presented as a work in progress, not as a validated product review.

If you try LemonLink, use material that is safe to share and compare its reports against known events: open the link yourself, share it through a channel that generates previews, and ask another person to open it. Check whether reported timestamps and classifications match those actions. Treat results as provisional until the creator documents detection behavior and performance.
