A League of Legends rank-boosting service can move an account to a higher rank faster by having a stronger player play Ranked on it or carry its owner through a smurf account. That changes the account’s rank or MMR; it does not show that the account owner has improved or can hold that rank. Riot classifies boosting and certain carry arrangements as ranked manipulation, and its enforcement can include suspensions, rank or reward removal, and—in repeat cases—a permanent ban.
What a League of Legends rank boost does
Riot defines boosting as a more skilled player logging into another player’s account to play Ranked and raise its MMR, whether or not the account is later returned. Riot also describes “hitchhiking,” sometimes called bussing, as queueing with another player to climb and artificially inflate rank or MMR. Its enforcement FAQ says a booster duo-queueing with a customer on a smurf account to inflate the customer’s MMR can also count as boosting. Riot’s August 2025 explanation sets out these definitions.
The account may rise more quickly because the games are being played by someone stronger, or because a stronger teammate is helping win them. But a higher displayed rank is not the same as personal progression: the owner has not necessarily learned the decisions, mechanics, or teamwork needed to perform at that level.
How much faster can boosting get you to the next rank?
There is no reliable average speed to cite. Riot’s published materials explain how boosting works and how it is detected, but do not establish an average number of games or days to gain a division, a service win rate, or a guarantee that a boosted rank will last. Any specific timeline depends on the account and the service, and should not be treated as a verified outcome.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Rank or MMR can change faster on paper when a stronger player supplies the Ranked performance. Whether the owner can maintain that result through their own play is a separate question; the cited Riot material does not show that a paid boost improves the owner’s skill or secures a lasting rank.
Is Elo boosting allowed, and can you get banned?
Riot treats account sharing and hitchhiking for rank gains as ranked manipulation. Penalties began rolling out in waves with Patch 25.18 in 2025, according to Riot’s developer update and Account Penalties and Enforcement FAQ.

Riot says enforcement considers MMR and unusual changes, rather than relying only on visible rank. Its FAQ describes looking for major, unusual MMR changes over a short period, and its 2026 Vanguard article says Anti-Boost looks for a higher-rated player earning a significant amount of an account’s Ranked points after logging in and performing far above the account’s usual user. Riot does not publish a rank-gap threshold that makes boosting safe.
The penalty details vary across Riot’s official summaries, so no single outcome is guaranteed in every case. Riot’s 2025 FAQ lists a first offense as a three-day ban, a second as a 14-day ban, and a third as a permanent ban; it also notes Honor reduction and exclusion from or revocation of that season’s Ranked rewards. A later Riot Support summary gives a 14–180-day suspension range and a permanent ban for repeat offenders. Riot’s FAQ and Support article should be read as descriptions of possible enforcement, not a promise of a particular penalty.

Riot’s 2026 Vanguard article says Anti-Boost first launched privately for League in September 2025 and reports 296,416 rank-manipulation actions across League of Legends and VALORANT “since late last year.” That is a combined figure, not a League-only count.
What happens to your account and login details?
To play Ranked on your account, a service may ask for your login credentials. Riot Support warns that some players who share credentials with a potential booster later find that the account has been stolen and sold or traded. It states: “One should never share their log-in information with another player, no exceptions.” Riot’s Support guidance makes the account-security risk explicit; it does not mean every service steals accounts.

Before handing over access, consider that the same arrangement can expose the account to both unauthorized access and Riot’s ranked-manipulation enforcement. A changed password afterward cannot undo a suspension, removed rank or reward, or loss of account control.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you play Ranked with a higher-ranked friend instead?
Riot says a high-ranked player should not use a smurf account to duo-queue in Ranked with a lower-ranked friend to carry them. Its FAQ distinguishes that from playing together in normal Summoner’s Rift queues or other game modes, which remain available. The practical alternative is to keep each player on their own account and choose a non-Ranked mode when rank differences make Ranked play unsuitable.

Does boosting help you improve?
A boost changes who is producing the Ranked results, not necessarily what the account owner learns. Riot’s definitions concern account access, queueing, MMR, and enforcement; they do not establish that a paid boost develops the owner’s ability or helps them sustain the new rank. If improvement is the goal, play Ranked yourself on your own account and use practice that lets you make and review your own decisions.
Riot says self-created, self-leveled alternate accounts can be legitimate when played honestly and without deranking or other ranked manipulation. That is different from buying access to another player’s account or using a smurf carry to inflate a customer’s MMR. The cited policy does not establish that every form of coaching is allowed, so check current Riot rules for any specific coaching arrangement.
