How Infor Combines Industry Expertise With Embedded Automation

Infor pairs industry-focused ERP workflows and data models with automation capabilities such as AI agents, GenAI, process mining and RPA. Here is what its product descriptions say, including a manufacturing example in Infor LN.

Infor’s approach combines ERP software configured around particular industries with automation capabilities built into its platform and workflows. Infor describes its CloudSuites as including industry-specific processes, workflows and data models, alongside tools such as AI agents, generative AI (GenAI), process mining and robotic process automation (RPA). The available product descriptions support “embedded automation” in software—not a claim that human engineers are routinely embedded in customer teams.

What does Infor mean by an industry-specific CloudSuite?

Infor positions its CloudSuites as industry-focused ERP packages rather than generic systems that every customer must extensively adapt. Its ERP overview describes embedded industry processes, role-based workflows and preconfigured data models. Infor says the suites include more than 60 micro-vertical configurations out of the box; that is the company’s own figure, not an independently verified count. Infor’s ERP and industry-solutions overview and corporate page explain this positioning.

In practical terms, a micro-vertical configuration is intended to reflect a narrower operating context within an industry. The value proposition is that relevant workflows and data structures are already part of the software. This is Infor’s product positioning; it does not, by itself, establish lower implementation costs, less project risk or better outcomes than another ERP system.

How does Infor use automation in its industry-specific ERP?

Infor describes automation as a set of capabilities layered into its ERP and cloud platform, not as a single feature. The company’s materials discuss industry AI agents, GenAI, process mining and automations in connection with Velocity Suite, which Infor presents as an AI package paired with CloudSuites and supported by implementation experts. Platform materials also describe AI, integrations and ERP add-ons that use RPA. Infor’s ERP page and Industry Cloud Platform page provide those descriptions.

  • Industry AI agents: Infor says these agents are designed for CloudSuite and role-based micro-vertical processes. It describes them as using industry data to orchestrate or automate workflows across operational areas. These are intended product behaviors, not independent measurements of effectiveness or adoption. Infor’s Industry AI Agents page outlines the offering.
  • GenAI: Infor includes generative AI in its stated automation package, but the cited product descriptions do not establish a particular customer result or quantified performance gain.
  • Process mining: This capability is presented as part of Infor’s automation stack and is also cited in the LN product description. It is intended to help organizations examine process flows; the sources do not provide independent evidence of resulting savings or improvements.
  • RPA: Robotic process automation appears in platform materials and as a built-in capability in Infor LN. Infor also describes ERP add-ons that use RPA.
  • Integration: Infor describes its platform as integrating with third-party systems, an important part of deploying automation across an existing enterprise software environment.

Does Infor provide embedded engineers, or is automation embedded in the software?

The product descriptions support the latter interpretation: Infor describes automation capabilities and industry workflows embedded in its software. They do not establish that human engineers are routinely placed inside customer teams. Infor does mention a team of experts to implement Velocity Suite, but that is not the same as a general guarantee of embedded engineering staff. Organizations evaluating implementation support should confirm the actual services, staffing model and responsibilities for their project with Infor.

What is the Industry Cloud Platform’s role?

Infor calls its Industry Cloud Platform the foundation or backbone for CloudSuites. The company describes it as a multi-tenant cloud environment that runs on AWS and supports connections to third-party systems. Its platform page also lists AI-powered analytics, process mining, data fabric, integration and ERP add-ons using AI and RPA. These are Infor’s descriptions of its architecture and capabilities, not an independent assessment of cloud performance or suitability for a particular organization. Infor’s platform overview gives the company’s account.

What should an organization verify before choosing Infor?

Infor’s descriptions explain what the company intends its CloudSuites and automation tools to do, but they do not establish comparative advantage or independently verified customer outcomes. A practical evaluation should test how the offering fits the organization’s own processes and technology environment.

  • Industry and micro-vertical fit: Check whether the relevant CloudSuite configuration matches the organization’s actual operating model, not just its broad industry label.
  • Workflow and data readiness: Review which processes and data models are preconfigured and what still requires configuration or customization.
  • Packaging: Confirm which AI, process-mining and automation capabilities are included in the proposed CloudSuite and which require Velocity Suite or other add-ons.
  • Integration: Map the systems the ERP must connect to and establish how those integrations will be built, operated and supported.
  • Cloud and operating requirements: Assess whether the platform’s cloud architecture and multi-tenant model meet the organization’s operational, security and governance requirements.
  • Implementation support: Agree who will perform implementation and integration work, what expertise will be assigned, and whether any personnel will work directly with the customer team.
  • Evidence of outcomes: Ask for evidence relevant to the organization’s use case rather than treating vendor capability descriptions or customer counts as proof of expected savings or productivity improvements.
