I built an interactive version with a polygon heatmap and a road-coloring view. The walkthrough below describes my implementation; its behavior and performance have not been independently verified.
What the map shows
An isochrone represents the area reachable from one location within a set amount of travel time. Mapbox’s Isochrone API returns those areas as GeoJSON contours that can be displayed as polygons or lines. For this project, I used car travel-time bands of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 minutes.

The map has two ways to view those contours. The polygon heatmap fills the reachable areas, making the broader time bands easy to compare. The road-coloring view applies the bands to roads instead. Moving the origin updates the map around the selected location.

How the six time bands fit the API
Mapbox supports driving, walking, and cycling profiles, with time contours up to 60 minutes. Each request accepts one coordinate and no more than four contours. That means six thresholds cannot fit into a single request.

In my implementation, I split the bands into two requests—10, 20, 30, and 40 minutes in one, then 50 and 60 in the other—and sent them in parallel. I sorted the returned features by contour so that larger polygons were drawn first. These are details of my implementation, not independently measured results.
Mapbox’s current documentation also lists a limit of 300 requests per minute and request-based billing. It requires results to be displayed on a Mapbox map using a Mapbox library or SDK. Check the API documentation for current service terms and limits before building against it.

How hover identifies a time band and road
When a user hovers over the map, I use Turf.js point-in-polygon testing to find which contour contains the pointer. If multiple contours contain it, the map reports the smallest containing time band. The hover behavior also queries Mapbox’s rendered features to look for a road label; a road name appears when one is available.

This combines two different questions: the contour check identifies the travel-time band, while the rendered-feature query looks for a road label at that spot. The project walkthrough describes this approach but does not establish a measured performance benchmark.

Implementation details and trade-offs
The project’s stack summary lists Next.js App Router, Mapbox GL JS v3, Turf.js v7, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. It names Next.js 15 in that summary but Next.js 16 in its closing stack line, so the exact Next.js major version is unresolved.
To avoid repeating requests for nearby origins, I described caching API responses by longitude and latitude rounded to four decimal places. I also added a 300 ms delay before fetching. Rounding coordinates makes cache reuse possible, but it also means nearby points can share a cached result rather than trigger a fresh request. The walkthrough does not quantify the effect on map accuracy or response time.

Two reported implementation snags stood out. Large geometry expressions became difficult to manage, and routing around the Karnaphuli River produced a result that was surprising to me. I also used a Tailwind styling workaround. These are observations from the project account, not independent findings about Mapbox routing or the city.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUsing a Mapbox token in the browser
A browser-based map needs a token available to the client. Mapbox’s access-token guidance explains that public tokens are intended for client-side applications. That does not make an unrestricted token a good default: use only the scopes the application needs and configure URL restrictions where appropriate.
Best Value
- Size--This decorative map is approximately 9x11 inches (23x28 cm) and is not framed.
- Style--A simple and modern black and white map designed for Dhaka,Bangladesh.
- Materials--Made of waterproof canvas. High-definition UV printing. This artwork is unframed.
- Souvenir--This is a great piece of art to commemorate your hometown or the city you have traveled or lived in.
- Custom--We have designed thousands of cities from all over the world. If you can't find your city, please contact us, and we will customize your own map for you.
Mapbox describes URL restrictions as a best-effort safeguard, not a guarantee. Requests from unauthorized origins can be rejected with a 403 response. If the map stops loading after restrictions are added, check that the deployed site’s origin is allowed and that the token has the required scopes.
What this walkthrough does—and does not—establish
This project demonstrates a way to combine Mapbox isochrone contours, a movable origin, polygon and road views, and hover-based labels. It does not establish independent measurements of request speed, citywide travel times, or the map’s accuracy against real journeys. The travel-time bands are the values selected for this implementation, not a published statistic about Chattogram traffic.
