How Hot Wheels Infinite Rush’s Track Building and Customization Work

Hot Wheels Infinite Rush lets you build terrain-aware tracks around buildings and above the city, define AI races with action markers, share creations, and customize cars with stickers, liveries, wheels and perks.

Hot Wheels Infinite Rush separates two kinds of creation: the Track Builder lets you assemble race courses in the game world, while vehicle editors handle appearance and performance choices. Track modules can follow the terrain, wrap around buildings, run above the city and between skyscrapers, and become races for virtual opponents when you add action markers. Finished creations can be shared with the community. Vehicle customization covers stickers, liveries, wheels and perks, with wheel size remaining tied to each vehicle’s original design.

What the Track Builder actually does

The Track Builder is an in-world course editor rather than a separate flat design screen. You place track modules in the game’s islands and use the surrounding environment as part of the route. The official PlayStation game page describes attaching modules to the ground, building around buildings, and racing above the city and between skyscrapers. That means a course can be shaped by terrain and architecture instead of being limited to a level, horizontal circuit.

The builder also turns a layout into something that can be raced. Xbox Wire says action markers define a path and allow virtual opponents to race on player-created tracks. Once a creation is shared, other members of the community can experience the route, although the published material does not specify every sharing filter, moderation rule, or cross-platform transfer condition.

How ground-locked track placement works

The builder’s most distinctive convenience is its ground-lock option. In the June 5, 2026 Xbox Wire feature, the publisher explains that players can keep modules “locked” to the ground so they naturally follow the surface as they are placed in sequence. In other words, you do not have to manually adjust the height of every piece simply to keep a route in contact with uneven terrain.

Hot Wheels Criss-Cross Crash Track Set & Car
  • Massive Track Set with Motorized Booster: Rev up your child's curiosity and problem-solving skills with this super-fun set!
  • Thrilling Stunts: Crank up the competition with challenging intersections, hairpin turns and a huge crash zone!
  • Easy to Load Cars: Car feeder ramp fuels exciting storytelling moments and continuous racing action.
  • Built-In Storage: Set features plenty of parking spaces for easy, convenient storage.
  • Ready to Stunt! Includes one Hot Wheels vehicle for racing adventures right out of the box!

This matters on slopes, rises and other changes in the island’s surface. A conventional free-placement editor may require repeated vertical corrections whenever the ground changes. Ground locking instead treats the terrain as a continuous guide. The official description does not publish the exact button or toggle name in each platform’s interface, so the wording should be understood as a building behavior, not as a promise of a particular controller shortcut.

What ground locking does and does not imply

  • It establishes that sequential modules can conform to the surface.
  • It does not establish the complete module catalog, the maximum incline, or the minimum and maximum piece spacing.
  • It does not prove that every module type can use the same placement behavior.
  • It does not describe whether a piece can be edited freely after placement or how collision validation is presented.

For a practical build, think of ground locking as the reliable starting mode for a route that should remain attached to the landscape. If your design goal is an elevated jump, bridge or skyline section, the environment-building options described by PlayStation become more relevant than simply following the ground.

Building around buildings and above the city

Ground-following is only one part of the editor. The PlayStation description says modules can be attached to the ground, built around buildings, or used above the city and between skyscrapers. This gives the builder three broad spatial ideas:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Surface routes: keep pieces connected to the island’s terrain and let the ground guide the sequence.
  2. Architecture-led routes: bend a course around buildings, using the city as an obstacle or landmark.
  3. Elevated routes: send the track over the city and through the space between skyscrapers.

The sources do not state whether buildings can be entered, whether every skyscraper is usable, or which modules support elevated construction. They also do not list height limits, snapping rules, or clearance warnings. Those details should be checked in the game’s current editor rather than assumed from the promotional description. What is established is that the intended play space extends beyond ordinary ground-level loops.

Hot Wheels Track Builder Unlimited Fuel Can Stunt Box Playset & Car
  • The Hot Wheels Track Builder Unlimited Fuel Can Stunt Box is packed with all the ingredients to make an awesome course for racing and stunting!
  • The container that's shaped like a gas can is packed with track pieces and accessories to build a course of a kid's own design. The case itself transforms into part of the playset for more stunting and racing options!
  • Each piece is compatible with other Hot Wheels track sets so that kids can continue to build out the track system of their dreams. Additional track sets sold separately.
  • The dedicated storage spots in the fuel can make it easy to keep pieces organized and to save them from getting lost.
  • One Hot Wheels vehicle is included, making this a great all-inclusive gift for kids 6 years old and older who love experimenting and creating with their Hot Wheels track systems.

Making a custom layout playable

A collection of pieces is not automatically described as a complete race. Xbox Wire identifies action markers as the element that defines a path and enables virtual opponents to race on a player-created track. The markers therefore provide the course logic that turns placement into a challenge for AI racers.

A reliable creation sequence

Official pages do not publish a button-by-button tutorial, so the following is a conceptual sequence based only on the documented functions:

  1. Choose a location in the game world. Start where the surrounding terrain or buildings support the kind of route you want.
  2. Place track modules. Use ground-locked placement when you want pieces to follow the surface in sequence. For skyline sections, use the builder’s documented ability to work around or above the city.
  3. Shape the route through the environment. Treat buildings, elevation and the gaps between structures as part of the course design rather than background scenery.
  4. Add action markers. Markers define the path that virtual opponents will follow. The exact marker types and any required start or finish rules are not stated in the published material.
  5. Check the route in the game’s own validation or race view. The available descriptions confirm AI-race support but do not specify how failures, unreachable pieces or invalid paths are reported.
  6. Share the creation. Xbox Wire says creations can be shared with the community. The exact publishing screen, visibility options and moderation process are not documented in the cited pages.

This sequence deliberately avoids inventing editor controls. Look for the current on-screen labels when you play, because names and input paths can differ by platform and may change during Early Access.

What action markers mean for race design

Action markers are important because they connect visual construction with race behavior. A dramatic route through towers may look complete but still need a defined path before virtual opponents can use it. Markers are the documented mechanism for establishing that path.

  • Includes 25 feet of Speed Snap Track with 3 different sizes of straight and flex track.
  • With 2 Hot Wheels cars included, kids can start racing immediately.
  • Add track to existing builds or Hot Wheels playsets, or design something entirely original.
  • The 2 adapters create backwards compatibility between Speed Snap Track and legacy Hot Wheels e-track.

The available descriptions do not say whether markers control checkpoints, jumps, overtaking zones, laps, spawning points or difficulty. Do not assume that a marker is equivalent to a conventional checkpoint until the game identifies it that way. The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: markers tell the game which route AI opponents should race.

Sharing tracks with the community

Xbox Wire states that player creations can be shared with the community. This makes the builder more than a private sandbox: a course can become a public challenge for other players. However, the sources do not establish whether a shared track is visible to every platform, whether it has a search code, or whether edits create new versions.

The PlayStation page advertises online multiplayer and cross-play for the game, but that broad feature statement does not prove that every shared Track Builder creation transfers across every platform or edition. Treat cross-play and track-sharing compatibility as separate questions until the game’s current documentation or in-game menus answer them.

Vehicle customization is a separate system

Track creation changes the course. Vehicle customization changes the car you bring to it. Official descriptions identify separate tools for stickers and liveries, wheel customization, and performance perks.

Hot Wheels City Transforming Race Tower & 1 Toy Car
  • The Hot Wheels City Transforming Race Tower converts from high-level single-lane racing to a two-lane competitive speedway with innovative twists kids and adults love.
  • The impressive dual-side elevator works for both race and single modes and automatically converts during the tower's transformation.
  • In race-mode, place 2 1:64 scale cars in the elevator, then lift it to the top, release the fair-start gate and watch the cars race. One Hot Wheels car is included. Additional cars sold separately.
  • The tower is 26-inches tall in single-lane mode, making for high-speed racing full of twists and turns. Connect it to other Hot Wheels sets to continue the adventures. (Additional sets sold separately.)
  • Makes a great gift for kids 3 years old and up who love racing their Hot Wheels cars.

Stickers and liveries

Sticker and Livery editors are the appearance-focused tools. They let you personalize the vehicle’s visual treatment rather than alter the track itself. The cited descriptions do not provide the number of sticker slots, decal layers, color channels, import options or save-slot limits, so those should not be inferred.

Wheels

Wheel customization is also documented, but an official Steam news result adds an important constraint: wheel size remains tied to the original vehicle design. You can customize the wheel presentation within the feature’s limits, but the source does not support a claim that any car can be given any wheel diameter.

Performance perks

The same official descriptions mention perks, indicating that customization is not purely cosmetic. Perks are the documented performance-oriented element, but the available material does not list individual perk names, numerical bonuses, stacking rules or whether perks are unlocked through progression. Avoid treating an unspecified perk as a known speed, grip or acceleration upgrade.

Game context for builders and racers

The PlayStation game page presents four islands and more than 150 vehicles. It also lists single-player, split-screen for up to four players, online multiplayer and cross-play. These features frame how a custom course may be used: you can build for solo challenges, local groups or online sessions, subject to the game’s current platform and edition rules.

Availability and Early Access status

Xbox Wire reported on September 7, 2026 that Hot Wheels Infinite Rush was available in Early Access on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. Because that is a dated availability snapshot, check the current Xbox and PlayStation storefront listings for the edition, release status and platform support that apply when you read this. Early Access can also mean that editor features, sharing behavior and customization options may change before a full release.

The cited pages do not verify a particular physical edition, retail inventory or requirement for real-world Hot Wheels track. The Track Builder described here is an in-game system; physical track is not established as a prerequisite.

What the published information still leaves open

Several practical questions remain unanswered by the official descriptions:

  • The exact controller and keyboard commands for opening the builder, placing a module, locking it to the ground and adding an action marker.
  • The complete module library and whether special pieces have different placement rules.
  • Height, length, piece-count and collision limits.
  • How the editor tests an incomplete or unreachable path.
  • Whether shared creations are searchable, rated, moderated or transferable across all platforms.
  • The full Sticker, Livery, wheel and perk catalogs, including unlock requirements and numerical effects.

These are not minor wording differences: they determine how much control advanced builders have. Until the game’s current menus or updated documentation specify them, treat the confirmed functions—terrain following, environmental construction, action-marker paths, community sharing and the listed vehicle editors—as the dependable feature set.

Bottom line for prospective builders

Infinite Rush’s editor is built around location-aware construction. Use ground locking to let modules follow the island surface, use buildings and skyline space to create more ambitious routes, and add action markers when you want virtual opponents to race the result. Shareable creations make those courses community content rather than one-off experiments. Vehicle customization runs alongside the builder, with stickers, liveries and wheels for appearance and perks for performance, while wheel size stays constrained by the original car design. The broad game package advertised by PlayStation—four islands, more than 150 vehicles, split-screen for up to four players, online multiplayer and cross-play—gives those creations several ways to be played, but platform-specific sharing and detailed editor limits still need confirmation in the current release.
