What does the Genesis Configuration do?
The box has two documented gameplay roles: it can deliver offensive effects in combat, and it can alter objects or conditions in the Labyrinth to help Aidan progress. Assistant Game Director Vid Rajin described it as “a puzzle box” at the centre of the game’s design in PlayStation’s August 2026 feature.

The box’s environmental role is tied to the Labyrinth’s unusual spatial logic. PlayStation’s feature describes a place intertwined with the real world, where progress can depend on interpreting clues and changing the environment—not just finding a key for a conventional locked door. The rotating wheel, shifting walkways, and shape-changing gate mechanism are concrete examples of that approach.

The box is not described as the answer to every puzzle. The game also includes locks and safes, and its broader survival-horror loop involves finding resources and managing ammunition and inventory. PlayStation’s feature describes crafting resources, weapon upgrades, firearms, and other weapons alongside the Genesis Configuration.
What kind of game is Hellraiser: Revival?
Saber announced Hellraiser: Revival as a single-player, story-driven survival-horror action game. Its story follows Aidan as he uses the Genesis Configuration in an attempt to help Sunny escape the Labyrinth. The game features Pinhead, with Doug Bradley returning to the role, according to Saber’s announcement.
In an Xbox Wire interview, executive producer Nenad Tomic said the game is inspired by the first two Hellraiser films, but its plot is not directly connected to them. The Genesis Configuration is central to both the story and gameplay, rather than serving only as a recognizable franchise object.
Release date, platforms, and estimated length
As of October 7, 2026, Saber’s official FAQ lists the game as scheduled for October 8, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. Because that date is one day away at the time of this information, check the official FAQ or platform store for current launch status.

The FAQ gives an estimated campaign length of around 8–12 hours. PlayStation also gives that range and says duration depends on difficulty and player skill; it is a developer estimate, not a measured playtime guarantee.
