A supported guitar controller lets you choose Pro Lead or Pro Bass in Fortnite Festival’s Main Stage. You play colored fret notes and strum; the Pro parts use hammer-ons and pull-offs instead of Lift Notes. Guitar controllers can also be used with non-Pro parts, including vocals. Epic lists no Pro parts for Jam Stage, and its descriptions of Battle Royale and Lobby use are music playback rather than guitar-performance modes.
What a guitar controller does in Fortnite Festival
Fortnite Festival has instrument parts that you select for a song. With a supported guitar controller connected, the Main Stage offers two guitar-oriented Pro parts: Pro Lead and Pro Bass. Epic says these parts are available for current and future Jam Tracks. That describes the supported song catalog at the part level; it does not establish that every guitar controller works with every platform or that every legacy rhythm-game peripheral is compatible. Epic’s Pro Lead and Pro Bass explanation

The controller supplies the physical inputs for playing those parts. You fret colored notes—Green, Red, Yellow, Blue, and Orange—and strum. The note patterns also include hammer-ons and pull-offs. Epic specifically distinguishes the Pro parts from ordinary parts by saying they use hammer-ons and pull-offs instead of Lift Notes.

In practical terms, the Pro parts are not simply regular Lead or Bass played with a guitar-shaped accessory. They are separate selectable parts with their own note behavior. Epic also says colored notes can be toggled and that scoreboards include listings for Pro scores. The support explanation does not give a model-by-model description of controllers or a platform compatibility chart, so those gameplay details should not be mistaken for confirmation of a particular device.

How the note controls differ from ordinary parts
The five fret colors identify the note lanes on the Pro chart. Strumming supplies the note activation, while hammer-on and pull-off patterns let the chart represent notes that do not use the same Lift Note behavior as ordinary parts. Epic does not publish a complete button map in the cited explanation, so the exact physical button assignment, calibration procedure, and any special controller configuration depend on the supported device and its documentation.
Colored notes can be toggled, according to Epic. That is an in-game presentation or note-display option; it should not be confused with adding Pro parts to a song or converting a regular controller into a guitar. Pro scoreboards are listed separately, which gives players a way to distinguish Pro performance results from other instrument scores.
Guitars are not restricted to Pro parts
Epic says guitar controllers can also be used with non-Pro parts, “such as vocals.” So the controller is not limited to Pro Lead and Pro Bass. The exact statement does not promise that every non-Pro instrument or every controller-platform combination is supported; it establishes that non-Pro use is possible, with vocals given as an example. Epic Games Support
This matters when choosing an instrument at the song screen. Seeing a guitar connected does not mean you must select a Pro part, and selecting a non-Pro part does not mean the controller has stopped being recognized. The available choices still depend on the mode, song, and connected hardware.
Which Fortnite modes support guitar parts?
The key distinction is between a Festival performance part and using a Jam Track as background or lobby music. Epic describes Pro Lead and Pro Bass as Main Stage parts. Its mode descriptions list loop-based instruments for Jam Stage and music playback in Battle Royale and the Lobby; they do not describe those experiences as offering the Main Stage Pro parts. Epic’s Jam Tracks guide
| Experience | What Epic describes | Guitar-controller relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Festival Main Stage | Choose a Jam Track and add it to a setlist. Select Lead, Drum, Vocals, Bass, Pro Lead, or Pro Bass. | Pro Lead and Pro Bass are the guitar-oriented parts. Epic says a guitar controller is required for the Pro parts. |
| Festival Jam Stage | Play Lead, Drum, Vocals, and Bass loops; switch instruments and combine loops with other players. | Epic does not list Pro Lead or Pro Bass for Jam Stage. |
| Battle Royale | Use equipped Jam Tracks as Intro Music or Celebration music. | This is a music-playback use, not a listed guitar performance part. |
| Lobby | Equip a Jam Track as Lobby Music. | This is music playback, not a listed guitar performance part. |
For Main Stage setup, Epic lists Lead, Bass, Drums, Vocals, Pro Lead, and Pro Bass as selectable instruments. Difficulty can vary by song and instrument, so do not assume a single difficulty applies across a setlist. Epic’s Main Stage setup guide
How to interpret the mode distinction
- If you want to play a guitar-oriented Pro chart, select Festival Main Stage and choose Pro Lead or Pro Bass.
- If you are in Jam Stage, the listed parts are Lead, Drum, Vocals, and Bass loops; the official description does not list the Pro parts there.
- If you are using a Jam Track in Battle Royale or the Lobby, Epic describes it as music for an intro, celebration, or lobby, not as an instrument part to perform.
Jam Stage’s loop design also changes the purpose of the guitar-shaped controller. Players switch instruments and combine loops with others there, rather than selecting the Main Stage Pro chart described by Epic. A Jam Track being available in more than one Fortnite experience therefore does not mean that every experience exposes the same parts.

How to select Pro Lead or Pro Bass
- Connect a guitar controller that is supported for your setup. Epic’s instructions refer to a supported guitar controller but do not name specific models or platforms.
- Enter Fortnite Festival Main Stage and choose a Jam Track for your setlist.
- At instrument selection, choose Pro Lead or Pro Bass. These are distinct from Lead and Bass.
- Select a difficulty appropriate to the song and part. Epic notes that difficulty can vary by song and instrument.
- Play using the colored fret inputs and strumming. The Pro note behavior includes hammer-ons and pull-offs rather than Lift Notes.
Epic’s guide explains the available parts and the setup flow, but it does not provide a controller-specific mapping chart in the cited support material. If your physical controller’s controls or connection requirements differ by model, check the manufacturer’s documentation for that exact device rather than assuming that all guitars use the same configuration.
Pro Lead and Pro Bass are part names, not two settings that can be enabled simultaneously for one player. Choose the part that matches the chart you want to perform; another player can select a different listed part in a group session. The official pages do not specify a special purchase, subscription, or separate unlock for the Pro selection, so avoid presenting one as a requirement.
What to do if Pro Lead or Pro Bass is missing
Epic’s troubleshooting article uses the problem description, “I can’t see the Pro Lead or Pro Bass options in Fortnite Festival.” It says the Pro options should appear automatically when a supported guitar controller is connected. If they remain hidden, its troubleshooting instructions are to enable a Festival visibility setting. Epic’s troubleshooting guide
- Choose Festival Main Stage.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Game > Festival.
- Turn on Always Display Pro Parts.
- Apply the change, then check the Main Stage instrument choices again.
Always Display Pro Parts is a visibility setting. Epic’s instructions do not say it makes an unsupported controller compatible. If enabling it does not resolve the issue, check the basics in order: confirm that you are in Main Stage rather than Jam Stage, make sure the controller is connected before selecting the instrument, and verify that the platform recognizes the exact device. Then confirm current Festival support for that model. These checks follow the distinction Epic makes between a supported controller and a display preference; they are not a guarantee that an unlisted device can be repaired through settings.

How to check a guitar controller before buying
Epic’s cited pages confirm the category—supported guitar controllers—but do not identify exact models, revisions, supported consoles or PC configurations, wired or wireless requirements, or required adapters. They also do not establish whether specific older Rock Band or Guitar Hero guitars work. No price, rental cost, or universal hardware budget is stated in those pages, so a reliable cost estimate cannot be given from Epic’s guidance alone. That means a product listing’s broad description is not enough evidence to promise that a particular guitar will unlock Pro parts.
Before purchasing, verify each of these details for the exact version you intend to buy:
- Platform: Confirm support for your particular console or PC setup, not just the game in general.
- Exact model and revision: Similar-looking versions of a controller may differ in compatibility. Check the full model designation, not only the brand name.
- Connection method: Establish whether it connects by wire or wirelessly and whether any receiver, adapter, or other hardware is required.
- Fortnite Festival support: Look for current confirmation that the exact controller works with Festival on your platform. General compatibility with another rhythm game is not confirmation.
- What is included: If an adapter or receiver is required, confirm whether it is included in the package or must be obtained separately.
A useful search phrase is “Fortnite Festival guitar controller,” but use it to find candidates, not as proof of support. Confirm the precise model, platform, connection method, and any adapter requirements before buying. If those details are not confirmed, treat compatibility as unknown rather than assuming that a legacy guitar will work. Do not rank one candidate above another unless you have model-specific, platform-specific confirmation.

Common mistakes and limitations
- Confusing Jam Stage with Main Stage: Jam Stage’s listed Lead, Drum, Vocals, and Bass loops are not the same as Main Stage Pro Lead and Pro Bass.
- Treating playback as performance: A Jam Track used for Lobby Music, Intro Music, or Celebration music is not described as a playable guitar part.
- Assuming every song has the same chart: Epic says difficulty can vary by song and instrument, so song selection affects the available challenge.
- Assuming a guitar-shaped shell is enough: Epic’s wording is “supported guitar controller.” Appearance or compatibility with another game does not establish Festival support.
- Using the display toggle as a fix for unsupported hardware: Always Display Pro Parts changes visibility; Epic does not say it adds hardware support.
- Expecting a universal button map: The cited support pages do not provide one. Use the exact controller maker’s instructions for connection and controls.
What Epic’s support information does—and does not—establish
The official guidance establishes the Main Stage Pro parts, their basic inputs and note behavior, their relationship to supported guitar controllers, and the setting to show Pro parts when they are not visible. It also distinguishes Main Stage performance from Jam Stage loops and Jam Track playback in Battle Royale and the Lobby. Epic says Pro Lead and Pro Bass are available for current and future Jam Tracks, while its Main Stage guide lists Lead, Bass, Drums, Vocals, Pro Lead, and Pro Bass as selectable instruments.

The Bottom Line
For guitar gameplay, use a supported controller in Fortnite Festival Main Stage and select Pro Lead or Pro Bass.
