Google Health can use information from Fitbit devices, manual entries, connected apps and services, and other paired Google devices. The data may include activity, sleep, heart metrics, location, and health information, depending on the device, settings, and permissions. Google says it uses health and wellness data to provide and personalize health features, improve services, and support safety—not for Google ads.

What Fitbit and Google Health data can include

Google’s privacy FAQ, updated May 19, 2026, describes several possible data sources and categories. What is collected depends on the device, service, configuration, and permissions you grant.

  • Profile and setup details: information such as height, weight, and sex.
  • Health and activity metrics: steps, distance, calories burned, weight, heart rate, sleep stages, and active minutes.
  • Information you enter or connect: manual entries and data from connected apps or services. Connections may be direct or routed through platforms such as Health Connect or Apple Health.
  • Medical records: if you choose to upload or connect them, they may include lab results, clinical notes, and health conditions.
  • Location: selected features may collect precise location when you grant permission. Google also says it may derive approximate location from an IP address.
  • Usage and diagnostics: app interactions and device, browser, network, or diagnostic information.

For generative AI features such as Google Health Coach, Google says it may collect conversations and related information, including questions, context, responses, and generated insights or summaries. Google Health privacy FAQ

What Fitbit devices can track

Google says all Fitbit and Pixel Watch devices track steps and Active Zone Minutes or active minutes. Other core statistics vary by model. The Google Health app also lets users log information such as sleep, exercise, water and food intake, weight, and menstrual health; an item entered in the app is not necessarily a wearable measurement.

  • COMPLETE ALL-IN-ONE-BUNDLE: Includes Fitbit Charge 6 Black/Obsidian, rapid USB charger, and a premium microfiber cleaning cloth, – everything you need to start tracking in style.

Example: Fitbit Charge 6

Google’s device inventory lists the Fitbit Charge 6 as supporting connected and on-device GPS; steps, distance, swimming, and cardio fitness (VO2 max); sleep logs, stages, and scores; stress-management scores, meditation minutes, and EDA scans; and heart rate, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability (HRV), breathing rate, SpO2 tracking, and skin-temperature variation. That is the inventory for this model, not a feature list that applies to every Fitbit. A listed metric should not be treated as a medical diagnosis, and the inventory alone does not establish availability in every location.

Other Fitbit devices

Google’s inventory covers trackers, smartwatches, and scales, with different capabilities by model. For example, the listed Aria family scales provide measured weight, body-fat percentage, and BMI. Check the exact model’s listing before assuming it supports a particular metric or type of GPS. Google’s Fitbit and Pixel Watch data inventory and Google’s activity-tracking guidance

Permissions, optional features, and Health Coach

Some information depends on choices you make. Location collection for selected features requires permission; medical records require a connection or upload; and optional features such as cycle health, irregular-rhythm notifications, ECG, and medical records can be enabled or disabled. Google says it explains collection and use before an optional feature is enabled. Availability can depend on location and device or service.

When enabled, Google Health Coach can use data from paired devices, your account profile, connected apps, exercise and sleep history, and information you share. Some categories, including medical records or certain sensor data, may require separate consent. Google says turning Coach off stops further collection or processing for those features.

Google Account transition and data controls

Google’s current documentation says Fitbit-account support ended May 19, 2026; a Google Account is required to use Google Health. Google says it is the data controller for people using a Google Account, including people who migrated a Fitbit account. The former option for legacy users who did not migrate to download or delete data before Google began processing deletions on July 15, 2026, has passed.

Google says users can access much of their information in the app, export data through Google Health Data and Privacy settings, delete selected health-history data, or leave Google Health. Leaving the service deletes associated Google Health data from the Google Account, but it does not automatically delete data previously authorized for use by other Google services; those services’ settings must be managed separately. Google describes health and wellness data retention as continuing until you delete it or leave the service, subject to its stated legal and business-interest exceptions for other information.
