A game you successfully claim through an Epic Games Store giveaway stays in the Epic account library that claimed it, even if you do not download it during the offer. How an Epic Games Store giveaway works
A giveaway is a limited-time offer to add a game to an Epic Games account library. It is not necessary to install the game while the offer is live: the important step is completing the claim before the offer ends. Epic’s Epic Games Store FAQ says that a claimed free game remains in the library after it is no longer free to new customers. Its weekly free-game support page likewise says the game is yours permanently once claimed, whether or not you download it right away.

Epic’s support guidance gives a seven-day claim window beginning Thursday at 8 AM PT. The offer rotates after that window, so a game shown as free during one promotion may no longer be claimable for free once the next offer takes its place. Check the live Free Games page for the active title and its displayed offer details rather than relying on an old announcement or assuming a particular game will be available on a future date.

The time is stated in Pacific Time. Because the page expresses the schedule in PT, readers elsewhere should use the time zone conversion that applies on the relevant date; do not assume a fixed UTC offset throughout the year. If the deadline matters, claim well before the listed end instead of waiting until the last few minutes.
How to claim and keep a game
- Check the active offer. Open the Free Games page and confirm that the game you want is currently part of the promotion. The available titles rotate.
- Sign in to the Epic account you want to use. A claim attaches to the signed-in account, so make sure it is the account whose library you intend to use. This is particularly important if you have more than one Epic account or sometimes sign in through a linked console identity.
- Make sure two-factor authentication is enabled. Epic’s weekly free-game support page says an Epic Games account with two-factor authentication enabled is required to claim the weekly free game. If you cannot complete the claim, check that this account requirement is met.
- Complete the claim while the offer is active. Follow the live offer’s claim process and make sure it completes. Merely seeing the game on the page, opening its listing, or intending to claim it later does not establish that it has been added to your account.
- Download now or later. Once the claim is recorded to the correct account, you do not have to download the game before the promotion ends. Epic says the claimed game remains in the library even if it is not downloaded right away.
The support article does not establish a universal button-by-button checkout path for every device or future storefront version. Follow the controls shown on the live offer page and verify that the claim finishes, rather than relying on a particular interface label that could change.
Does a claimed giveaway game expire?
According to Epic, no: a successfully claimed giveaway remains in the claiming account’s library permanently. The end of the promotion changes whether new customers can claim the game for free; it does not, by itself, remove a completed claim from existing claimants’ libraries. You can therefore claim during the promotion and install the game later, subject to being able to access the account and the game through Epic’s services.
“Permanent” should be understood as Epic’s statement about the library entitlement for a claimed free game. It is not a promise that the game’s online servers, multiplayer features, or every other feature will operate forever. The cited Epic statements address the claimed game remaining in the library; they do not establish uninterrupted service availability or the future operation of online components.

Nor does the entitlement move automatically to whichever account you happen to use later. The library is tied to the account that completed the claim. If you cannot find the game, first check that account before concluding that the offer has expired or the game has been removed.
Giveaway, free trial, and temporary build are different
Not every no-cost way to access a game is a giveaway claim. The distinction matters because some forms of access are designed to end.

The free-trial explanation and the distinction between trial access and a claimed giveaway appear in Epic’s Store FAQ. Epic’s missing-games support article also notes that temporary beta or press builds should not be mistaken for a permanent library claim. A game being playable at no cost for a while is therefore not enough to show that it was added as a giveaway entitlement.

If you did not complete the claim while the promotion was active, Epic’s support guidance does not give you a later entitlement to that offer. Once the window closes, the game may no longer be free to claim under that promotion. Epic advises watching for future promotions and special offers, but does not promise that a missed game will be offered again.

That means there are two different cases: a completed claim should remain in the claiming account’s library, while an unclaimed offer that has ended cannot be recovered simply by downloading the launcher or opening the game’s listing afterward. Epic’s answer to the missed-offer question is in its support article about claiming a game after its free offer has ended. Check the current store page for any new promotion rather than assuming the expired offer can still be claimed.
If the title appears in a later promotion, that would be a new opportunity to claim it, not an extension of the earlier offer. Epic’s guidance recommends watching for future deals but does not say that any particular missed game will return, or when it might do so. If you missed the window, the practical next step is to check the live Free Games page and any current special offers; the old claim period itself does not remain open.
If a claimed game is missing from your library
A game that is not visible is not necessarily an expired giveaway. Epic identifies account mix-ups as a common reason that games appear to be missing, and users may have multiple accounts or use a console-linked sign-in. Work through these checks before treating the claim as lost:

- Check which account is signed in. Compare the account currently open with the one you used when claiming the game. Try the relevant Epic credentials or linked sign-in if you have more than one way to access Epic.
- Recall what kind of access you received. Confirm that you completed a full free-game promotion claim rather than using a trial, beta, or press build. A trial ends with its trial period, and a temporary build does not create permanent access.
- Use Epic’s missing-games guidance. If you are confident the promotion claim was completed on this account and the game still does not appear, follow the steps in Epic’s official missing-games support article.
These checks separate an account or offer-type issue from the ordinary end of a promotion. The weekly offer expiring means that new customers can no longer claim that promotion; according to Epic, it does not mean that a completed giveaway claim should disappear from the account library.

It is worth distinguishing “I cannot see the game in this library” from “the game has expired.” Epic specifically advises checking whether you are signed in to the account that owns the game. That can include checking whether you originally used separate Epic credentials or a console-linked sign-in. If the game was only a trial or limited-time build, however, the missing access may be expected rather than an account error.

- Enable two-factor authentication on the Epic account before trying to claim the weekly free game.
- Make sure you are using the account you want to keep the game on, especially if you have multiple Epic or console-linked sign-ins.
- Complete the claim before the displayed offer ends. Do not treat adding a reminder, viewing the listing, or planning to download later as a completed claim.
- After claiming, you can choose when to download; Epic says the game need not be downloaded during the offer window.
