A Ninja CREAMi processes a base that you freeze solid ahead of time. After you place the frozen pint in the machine, a motor-driven Creamerizer paddle shaves and churns the frozen mixture. A selected program sets how the machine processes it; the appliance does not freeze liquid as it runs.
How a Ninja CREAMi works, step by step
- Prepare the base. Make a suitable base for the treat you want and put it in a compatible CREAMi container. Ninja describes the machine as supporting a range of bases and ingredients. Ninja’s NC301 product page describes the prepare-freeze-process workflow.
- Freeze it solid before processing. Ninja’s stated workflow calls for freezing the base overnight. The machine works on the frozen base rather than churning liquid while it freezes, as a conventional compressor-style ice-cream maker would.
- Load the container into the machine. The system includes a motor base, Creamerizer paddle, pint, outer bowl, and bowl lid. The paddle is the part that processes the frozen base.
- Select a program suited to the recipe. On the standard NC301, the listed programs are Ice Cream, Lite Ice Cream, Sorbet, Gelato, Milkshake, Smoothie Bowl, and Mix-in. Ninja says programs vary in speed and processing time, and recommends choosing based on the ingredients and recipes with similar ingredients.
- Run the program, then add mix-ins when appropriate. The separate Mix-in program is intended for additions such as chocolate, nuts, or fruit. Follow the guidance for your recipe and model.
What happens inside the machine?
Ninja calls its mechanism “Creamify Technology.” According to the manufacturer, the Creamerizer paddle shaves and churns ice particles from the uniformly frozen base. The chosen program controls settings such as speed and duration. This is different from a machine that freezes a liquid mixture while it churns: the CREAMi’s starting point is already frozen.

Ninja says its programs run for roughly 1–2½ minutes. Its FAQ gives Ice Cream as an example of a shorter, lower-speed process than Sorbet, explaining that ice cream typically contains fat and sugar while sorbet contains little or no fat and can freeze harder. Those are the manufacturer’s descriptions of its program choices, not independent comparative test results or universal rules for every recipe.

Which Ninja ice cream maker do you mean?
“Ninja ice cream maker” can refer to different CREAMi product families. Their programs, container sizes, and functions differ, so check the model number rather than assuming every machine or accessory works the same way.

No. Ninja’s cited pint pack is specified for the NC299 and NC300 series, and excludes the NC500, NC100, and NC200 series. The Deluxe listing says its tubs do not fit the standard 7-in-1 or Swirl; the Swirl listing likewise says its pints do not fit the standard 7-in-1 or XL Deluxe.

What to check before using or buying one
- Confirm which CREAMi model you own or are considering; the standard model, Deluxe, and Swirl have different functions and containers.
- For the standard NC301, compare your recipe’s ingredients with the program guidance and similar Ninja recipes rather than choosing a setting by treat name alone.
- Check that any extra pint, tub, paddle, or other replacement part is listed for your exact model SKU.
