To use Bluehost AI Credits from Sim, save your Bluehost AI Gateway API key in Sim’s workspace secrets, then configure Sim to send model requests to Bluehost’s gateway. Bluehost documents two ways to do this: ask Sim chat to set up the connection or build a workflow yourself. You need an existing Sim installation and an eligible Bluehost Self-Managed VPS or VDS plan with an active credit balance.
Before you connect: check access and credits
- Sim must already be installed and its first-time setup completed.
- Bluehost says AI Credits are available on Self-Managed VPS and VDS plans, and lists Sim as a supported app. Check your Bluehost account portal for eligibility and the current credit balance.
- An active AI Credits balance is required before you can create or manage gateway API keys.
Bluehost describes AI Credits as a prepaid wallet shared across the account. Its overview, updated September 16, 2026, lists 500 credits for $5, 1,000 for $10, 5,000 for $50, and 10,000 for $100, with each credit assigned a retail value of $0.010. Those are dated prices, not guaranteed current rates. Bluehost says credits do not renew automatically, are non-refundable, and remain valid for 12 months from the most recent purchase; buying more resets the validity window for the full balance. Choose a setup method

Bluehost’s guide does not report comparative reliability results for the two methods. Both depend on using a valid key, a currently available model ID, and request formatting that matches the selected API protocol.

- In Sim, open the workspace’s Secrets area and create a secret named
BLUEHOST_AI_GATEWAY_KEY. - Set its value to your Bluehost AI Credits API key and save it.
- In workflow configuration, refer to the secret by its name rather than pasting the raw key into a block. Bluehost’s guide warns: “Never paste the raw key into a workflow. Reference the secret as
{{BLUEHOST_AI_GATEWAY_KEY}}instead.”
Option 1: Ask Sim chat to configure the gateway
Bluehost’s setup guide provides a chat-assisted route. Ask Sim to connect to https://gateway.ai.bluehost.com using the workspace secret BLUEHOST_AI_GATEWAY_KEY. Have it probe the supported protocols, validate the chosen model ID, and return a checklist for after restarting the workflow or application.

The guide uses claude-sonnet-4-6 as an example model. Treat that as an example, not a promise of current availability: check the gateway’s model list before relying on it. Bluehost’s Sim connection guide contains the prompt example and setup details.
Option 2: Build a four-block workflow manually
For the OpenAI-compatible chat-completions route, create these blocks in sequence. Use Sim’s connection picker to pass the output of one block to the next.

JSON.stringify(String(prompt ?? '')). This prevents quotes, backslashes, or newlines in a prompt from breaking the request body. - gatewayCall: Send a POST request to
https://gateway.ai.bluehost.com/v1/chat/completions. Setcontent-type: application/jsonandAuthorization: Bearer {{BLUEHOST_AI_GATEWAY_KEY}}. Use a JSON body containing your selected model,max_tokens, and a user message whose content is the output fromescapePrompt. BecauseJSON.stringifyhas already added the necessary JSON quoting, do not put extra quotation marks around that output. - extractText: Read the OpenAI-compatible response at
choices[0].message.content. Check that it contains non-empty text, then return the text, the reported model, and usage.
Use an exact model ID currently returned by GET https://gateway.ai.bluehost.com/v1/models. Model availability and costs can change; consult Bluehost’s model and credit-pricing reference for current information. The available documentation does not establish a complete current model list or per-token price table.

If you choose the Anthropic-compatible Messages API instead, send a POST request to https://gateway.ai.bluehost.com/v1/messages with content-type: application/json, x-api-key: {{BLUEHOST_AI_GATEWAY_KEY}}, and anthropic-version: 2023-06-01. The response format differs from chat completions: assistant text is normally at content[0].text. Adjust the extraction block for that response rather than trying to read choices[0].message.content.

Run a test and diagnose common failures
Test with a prompt containing quotation marks; including a newline is useful for checking escaping. Bluehost recommends confirming that all four blocks complete, the extracted text is present, the reported model is the intended one, and the request returns HTTP 200.
- 400 Invalid JSON payload: Confirm that the
escapePromptblock exists, that the API body uses its output rather than the raw Start input, and that the escaped output is not surrounded by additional quotation marks. - Text is missing: Check that the extractor matches the API route. Chat completions use
choices[0].message.content; the Anthropic-compatible route normally usescontent[0].text. - Model is unavailable: Check the exact model ID against
GET https://gateway.ai.bluehost.com/v1/modelsinstead of assuming the guide’s example is still supported. - You need to audit a request: Bluehost identifies
x-bh-modelas the resolved model ID andx-bh-costas the reported cost in US dollars. Depending on Sim’s API-block output shape, those headers may appear alongside the status and response body; inspect the execution trace. The documentation does not establish that every Sim configuration exposes them in the same location.

Because endpoints, model IDs, compatibility, pricing, and account terms can change, verify them in the gateway and account portal when setting up the integration.
