To play phone audio through a JBL speaker, switch the speaker on, put it into Bluetooth pairing mode, then select it in your phone’s Bluetooth settings. Once connected, start playing audio on your phone.
Pair your phone with a JBL speaker over Bluetooth
- Turn on the speaker. Make sure it has enough charge or is connected to power.
- Put the speaker in pairing mode. On most JBL speakers, press and release the Bluetooth button. Some models require holding it for a few seconds. A sound or blinking light may signal that pairing mode is active; check your model’s manual if you are unsure.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your phone. Turn Bluetooth on and scan for available devices. The exact menu wording varies by phone and software version.
- Select the speaker. Tap its name in the available-device list to pair and connect.
- Play audio. Start music, a video, or other audio on your phone.
JBL’s Charge 5 quick-start guide illustrates the model-specific process: press its Bluetooth/power button once, turn Bluetooth on in the phone, then select “JBL Charge 5.” Button behavior can differ on other models.

If the speaker does not appear or connect
Check pairing mode and Bluetooth
- Confirm the speaker is switched on and actively in Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Confirm Bluetooth is on in the phone’s settings, then scan again.
- Move the phone closer and retry. Bluetooth distance limits vary by model; for example, the Authentics 300 manual specifies a limit of 33 ft (10 m) for that speaker. The manual also notes that electronic devices may cause interference.
Disconnect another phone if needed
A different phone may already be connected. Disconnect it or turn off Bluetooth on that phone, then select the speaker from the phone you want to use. The number of phones a speaker can connect to varies by model.
Try manual reconnection
A phone that has paired with the speaker before may reconnect automatically when it is nearby and the speaker is on, but automatic reconnection is not guaranteed. Turn on Bluetooth and select the speaker manually if it does not reconnect.

Check audio output before resetting
If the phone says it is connected but the speaker is silent, check that the phone is sending audio to the JBL speaker and that neither device is muted. Avoid forgetting the speaker or resetting it as an early fix: forgetting it means pairing again, and a speaker reset erases its saved phone pairings. Consult the model’s manual for its reset procedure if you decide a reset is necessary.
Connect more than one JBL speaker
Speaker linking depends on the JBL models and connection technology; it is not a universal feature. JBL’s PartyBoost instructions say to connect the phone to one speaker, start music, open the JBL Portable app, then use the speakers’ PartyBoost buttons. Stereo mode requires two speakers of the same model. A Flip 5 and Flip 6 can be used together in Party mode, but not Stereo mode under this guidance. Connect and Connect+ speakers cannot be grouped with each other or with PartyBoost models.

Bluetooth is not the only route on every model
Bluetooth is the simplest option for ordinary phone-to-speaker playback. Some models have other inputs: the Authentics 300 manual also documents Wi-Fi streaming controlled through JBL One and an AUX connection with a 3.5 mm cable. Do not assume these options are available on a portable JBL speaker that supports Bluetooth only.
