To test a Samsung dryer thermistor, disconnect the dryer from power, unplug the thermistor harness, and measure resistance across the specified sensor terminals with a multimeter set to ohms. Compare the reading with the specification for your exact dryer model at the sensor’s measured temperature. A heating-temperature error code alone does not prove the thermistor has failed; restricted venting can also be a cause.
Before testing: find the correct model information
Record the full dryer model number and locate its matching service or repair guide before opening the appliance. Access steps, wiring, terminal assignments, specifications, and compatible replacement parts can vary by model. Samsung’s model support pages list model-specific materials; for example, its DV90DB8845GB support page has repair-guide listings: Samsung DV90DB8845GB support.

Do not assume that a resistance value or connector pin assignment shown for another Samsung dryer applies to yours. A reproduced Samsung DV45H-series service manual, for example, identifies a 2P blue-and-red wire for the thermistor test in the models it covers. Use that assignment only if your own model’s documentation confirms it.

How to measure thermistor resistance
- Disconnect power. Unplug the dryer or otherwise disconnect it from its electrical supply before servicing. The reproduced Samsung service-manual text warns: “To avoid risk of electrical shock, personal injury or death; disconnect power to dryer before servicing, unless testing requires power.” A resistance test does not require an energized dryer.
- Access the sensor using the model guide. Follow the disassembly instructions for your exact dryer. Stop if you are unsure how to open the appliance safely.
- Isolate the thermistor. Disconnect its harness so the meter measures the sensor rather than other connected circuitry. Identify the correct terminals from the model-specific wiring information.
- Measure resistance. Set a digital multimeter to ohms and place one probe on each specified thermistor terminal. A continuity-only beep is not enough: it does not show whether the sensor’s resistance matches its specification.
- Record temperature and reading. Let the sensor reach a known, stable temperature, note that temperature, and compare the resistance with the specification for that model at that temperature. Resistance changes with temperature.
What the multimeter reading means
The reproduced Samsung DV45H-series service manual lists 10 kΩ at 25°C (77°F) for the specified thermistor leads in the model family covered by that manual. This is an example tied to a particular manual and temperature, not a universal specification for all Samsung dryers. The available reproduction does not establish the manual’s publication year.

- Reading matches the model specification at the measured temperature: the test does not indicate a thermistor resistance fault under those conditions. It does not rule out every intermittent fault or another problem in the dryer.
- Meter shows an open circuit, a short, or a value substantially outside specification: inspect the sensor connection and wiring, then follow the model’s diagnostic procedure to determine whether the thermistor has failed. Do not substitute the 10 kΩ example unless it applies to your model and test temperature.
- Reading is unstable or cannot be compared confidently: verify the meter setup, terminal identification, sensor temperature, and model-specific test instructions before drawing a conclusion.
Why an error code does not confirm a failed thermistor
Samsung’s Canadian guidance for certain heating-temperature codes lists restricted venting as a possible cause as well as a defective thermistor: Samsung error-code guidance. A code can point to a temperature or airflow problem without identifying one failed part by itself.
Check airflow as well as sensor resistance. Samsung’s vent-blockage guidance directs owners to the user manual for the model-appropriate vent test: Samsung dryer vent blockage test. Follow that procedure for your dryer rather than assuming that a thermistor code settles the diagnosis.

When to stop and get service
If you are not comfortable opening the dryer, disconnecting internal wiring, or interpreting resistance measurements, arrange service from a qualified appliance technician. Do not perform an ohms test on an energized appliance. If a thermistor replacement is indicated, verify the replacement part against the complete model code and the compatible part number; the cited service material does not establish one thermistor that fits every Samsung dryer.
