On a Samsung Galaxy S21, voicemail is reached through the Phone app, but the way to change or reset its password depends on your carrier. Open Phone and touch and hold 1 to call voicemail. If you know your current password, use the carrier’s change-password option; if you have forgotten it, use that carrier’s separate reset process.
Access voicemail on your Galaxy S21
- Open the Samsung Phone app.
- Touch and hold 1 on the keypad to call voicemail. Samsung says voicemail is generally accessed this way, while available options vary by carrier. Samsung’s call-settings guidance and the Galaxy S21 series user manual both direct users to carrier-specific instructions for details.
If your carrier has configured Visual Voicemail, you may also be able to open it through the Phone app or a carrier-provided voicemail app. The app name and available controls depend on your carrier.

First decide whether you need to change or reset the password
- Change a known password: Use this when you can still access voicemail and know the existing password. Some carrier change flows ask you to enter it.
- Reset a forgotten password or PIN: Use the carrier’s recovery process for a password you cannot remember. A known-password change sequence may not work for this situation.
- Change the greeting: This affects the message callers hear, not the credential used to access voicemail.
The carrier controls voicemail credentials and recovery, so the S21 does not have one universal reset code. The following are US carrier examples; use the instructions for the service on your line.
Change a known voicemail password on an AT&T Galaxy S21
For an AT&T Galaxy S21 with voicemail already set up, AT&T documents this Visual Voicemail route:
#1 Best Overall
- Display: 6.2" AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 1300 nits brightness for vivid visuals and smooth scrolling.
- Camera: Rear dual camera system with 64MP main and 12MP ultrawide lenses for stunning photos and videos.
- Memory: 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM for plenty of apps and files.
- Connectivity: 5G capable with support for GSM, CDMA, and Wi-Fi networks.
- Battery: 4000mAh battery provides all-day power for your daily needs.
- Open Phone and select Keypad.
- Open Visual Voicemail.
- Tap Menu, then Settings.
- Tap Change password and follow the on-screen steps.
These device-specific steps are documented for the Galaxy S21 series in AT&T’s S21 voicemail instructions. AT&T distinguishes changing a password you know from resetting one you have forgotten; its alternate IVR change sequence requires the existing password. For a forgotten password, follow AT&T’s voicemail password reset process instead.
Reset a forgotten PIN with other US carriers
| Carrier | Forgotten credential route | Where to act |
|---|---|---|
| Verizon | Reset through My Verizon or dial *611. | Carrier account or carrier support line. See Verizon’s Visual Voicemail FAQ. |
| T-Mobile | T-Mobile lists #793# to reset the voicemail PIN. | Dialer; see T-Mobile’s voicemail support page. |
These routes apply to the named carriers, not to Samsung phones generally. Do not try one carrier’s code on another carrier’s service; check the current support instructions for your account and location.

If you meant changing the greeting
For Verizon Visual Voicemail, the greeting can be changed in the app. Verizon also says to dial *86 and follow the prompts. Those are Verizon-specific directions; use your own carrier’s voicemail settings for another service.
