To run Roblox with elevated Windows permissions once, close Roblox, open Start, search for Roblox, right-click the installed app, choose Run as administrator, and select Yes at the User Account Control (UAC) prompt. If Windows requests an administrator name and password, an administrator must approve it.
Run Roblox as administrator once
From the Start menu
- Close Roblox and any Roblox launcher windows.
- Open Start and type Roblox.
- Right-click the installed Roblox result.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the UAC prompt with Yes. Windows may instead request credentials from another administrator.
Windows uses UAC to give an application an elevated security token. That can let Roblox or its updater write to protected folders, registry locations, or other system resources. It does not grant moderator powers inside Roblox, bypass an account ban, remove parental controls, improve ping or FPS, or repair damaged files automatically. From a desktop shortcut
Right-click the Roblox shortcut, select Run as administrator, and approve UAC. If no shortcut exists, search for Roblox from Start, right-click it, and choose Open file location when Windows offers that option; you can then create a shortcut.
A shortcut may start a launcher that creates a separate player process. Elevating the first process therefore does not guarantee that every Roblox child process remains elevated. Do not download a replacement executable or a third-party “Roblox administrator” utility.

Make the desktop version request elevation every time
Use this setting only for a repeatable permissions problem. It applies most reliably to a traditional Roblox desktop executable or its shortcut.
- Right-click the Roblox shortcut or executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch Roblox normally and approve UAC.
To undo it, return to Properties → Compatibility, clear Run this program as an administrator, and select Apply → OK. Microsoft documents this compatibility option and explains how elevated applications can lose interoperability with ordinary user-mode programs: Microsoft’s elevated-app guidance.
Desktop Roblox versus the Microsoft Store app
Roblox currently distributes a Microsoft Store app named Roblox – Windows, identified by a blue icon. The older Store listing is named Roblox and uses a light-gray icon. Roblox describes the distinction here: Roblox’s Microsoft Store app guide.

Store packaging means that desktop-app controls do not always apply identically. Microsoft explains the distinction between Store-delivered and downloaded desktop apps at Windows desktop apps and privacy. Advanced method: launch a known executable with PowerShell
Only use this when you have identified the actual Roblox executable. Replace the example path; installation locations vary by account, version, and distribution.
Start-Process -FilePath "C:pathtoRobloxPlayerBeta.exe" -Verb RunAsWindows should display a UAC prompt. To identify a process, open Roblox normally, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc for Task Manager, find the Roblox process, and choose Open file location if available. You can also inspect a shortcut’s Properties and its Target field. The target may be a launcher rather than the player itself.
What to do when elevation does not fix Roblox
Administrator mode is a targeted permissions test, not a general repair. If it changes nothing, stop repeating it and work through these steps:
- Restart Windows.
- Update Windows and Roblox through the relevant Store or installer.
- Reinstall Roblox using an official source.
- Switch between the official desktop and Microsoft Store versions. Roblox recommends this approach for some client and library errors: Roblox’s failed-library guidance.
- Check antivirus and firewall alerts. Update the security product, confirm any detection is a false positive, and use only its narrowly scoped allow-list process when justified. Do not disable protection permanently. Roblox notes that security software and third-party restrictions can affect files commonly stored under
%LOCALAPPDATA%Roblox: Roblox’s security-software guidance. - Close overlays, auto-clickers, recording tools, and other conflicting software. Roblox documents anti-cheat and third-party conflicts at its anti-cheat guidance.
- Repair Windows system files. Open Command Prompt by searching for
cmd, select Run as administrator, approve UAC, and run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /RestorehealthWhen DISM finishes, run:

- Account bans, experience permissions, parental controls, network filtering, service outages, and incorrect credentials are not normally fixed by elevation.
- If Roblox reports an access-denied or initialization error, keep the exact message and your Windows version when contacting Roblox Support.
Should Roblox always run as administrator?
Usually not. Start Roblox normally, then try one-time elevation only when the symptom suggests a file-access or permissions problem. Keep persistent elevation enabled only if the same, specific issue is reproducibly solved by it.
- Every launch may trigger UAC.
- Elevated Roblox may not interact correctly with non-elevated overlays, capture tools, or companion applications.
- Malware, compromised add-ons, or damaged files have greater potential impact in an elevated process.
- A launcher and the executable it updates may run under different permission contexts.
If there is no measurable benefit, turn the Compatibility setting off.
Windows compatibility and support status
As verified on August 18, 2026, Roblox lists PC support for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 and does not support Linux: Roblox computer and operating-system requirements. Microsoft support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025, so a compatible Windows 10 installation may still run Roblox but no longer receives Microsoft’s normal free security updates and technical support.
When the administrator option is unavailable
- You selected a browser link instead of the installed Roblox app.
- The app is a Microsoft Store package without traditional executable controls.
- The shortcut points to a packaged launcher.
- The device is managed by a school or employer.
- Your account cannot approve elevation and no administrator is available.
- The installation is incomplete or corrupted.
Start from the installed app, identify whether it is Roblox – Windows or the older Roblox Store app, and use an official installer if changing distributions is necessary. Never bypass a managed-device restriction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run Roblox as administrator without an administrator password?
A user allowed to approve UAC can select Yes. On a standard account, Windows may require an administrator’s username and password; there is no safe bypass.
Does this give me Roblox administrator powers?
No. It elevates the Windows application process only; it does not change your Roblox account, moderation status, permissions, or bans.
Why is the Compatibility tab missing?
You may be using the Microsoft Store package, a packaged launcher, or a shortcut that does not point to a traditional executable. Use Start to launch it or test the other official Roblox distribution.
Does administrator mode improve FPS or ping?
No performance improvement is established. Elevation addresses Windows permissions, not graphics performance, latency, or Roblox server access.

How do I stop Roblox from asking for permission every time?
Clear Run this program as an administrator under the shortcut or executable’s Properties → Compatibility, then select Apply and OK.
Can I use these steps on macOS, Chromebook, Xbox, or mobile?
No. These are Windows UAC and executable steps. Other platforms use different security and app-installation models.
The Bottom Line
Use Run as administrator once to test a Windows permissions problem. Do not make Roblox permanently elevated unless that specific problem is repeatable and the setting clearly fixes it; otherwise update, reinstall, switch official versions, check security conflicts, or repair Windows instead.
