There is no universal battery-settings reset. The right step depends on your device and what you mean by “reset”: changing power controls, investigating an odd battery reading, addressing a charging limit, or resetting the entire device. These are different actions, and a factory reset is destructive.
First, identify what you want to reset
Choose the situation that matches your problem. A setting that changes power use does not restore worn battery capacity, and a battery report or health recalibration does not reset device settings.

- You want the battery to last longer: adjust power-saving controls.
- The charge stops below 100%: check whether a charging-protection feature is active.
- The percentage or health estimate looks wrong: use only the reporting or diagnostic steps supported for your device.
- The device behaves abnormally: restart and update it before considering more disruptive troubleshooting.
- You want to erase and start over: that is a factory reset, not a battery-settings reset.
Extend battery life by changing power settings
Android
Android controls vary by device and manufacturer. Google’s Android battery guidance includes shortening screen-on time, lowering brightness, restricting apps that use a lot of battery, enabling Adaptive Battery, deleting unused accounts and using dark theme where available. Battery Saver can limit background activity, so some apps or features may be delayed.
Use the settings and instructions for your phone’s specific manufacturer and model; there is no single Android menu path that applies to every device.

Windows
For a Windows PC, Microsoft’s battery-saving tips cover power and display choices. These reduce energy use; they do not reset or restore the battery’s original capacity.
If charging stops below 100%, check Smart charging
Some Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices have Smart charging, which may be enabled by the manufacturer and intentionally hold the charge below 100% to help protect battery longevity. Its controls differ among manufacturers. Microsoft recommends leaving it on when you do not need a full charge soon; if you need a full charge for travel or a day away from outlets, check your computer maker’s instructions for managing the feature.
See Microsoft’s Smart charging guidance, then consult your device manufacturer for the relevant control. A charge limit by itself does not show that the battery is faulty.

If a battery percentage or health estimate seems wrong
Eligible iPhone 11 models
Apple documents automatic battery-health reporting recalibration for iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 14.5 or later. During regular charge cycles, the system recalibrates its Maximum Capacity and Peak Performance Capability reporting; Apple says the process may take a few weeks. It corrects the reported estimate, not physical battery wear. See Apple’s recalibration guidance.

This procedure is specific to those models and software context; it is not a manual reset recipe for every iPhone. If an eligible phone displays a recalibration message, let the process complete before contacting a service provider. Apple says a service message may appear if recalibration detects significant degradation.
Windows battery information
Windows 11 can generate a battery report for investigating usage and estimated capacity. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run:
powercfg /batteryreport
Windows displays the saved HTML report’s location in the command window. Microsoft identifies Installed battery, Recent usage and Battery usage as useful sections. The report provides information; it does not reset the battery or its settings. See Microsoft’s Windows battery-care guidance.

For an Android phone with persistent battery trouble, Google recommends restarting the phone and checking for Android and app updates. Consult Google’s Android guidance and the manufacturer’s instructions for model-specific steps.

For lithium-ion batteries, capacity declines with use. Microsoft’s battery-care guidance discusses moderate charge levels and avoiding high temperatures as ways to slow degradation; these practices cannot restore capacity already lost to wear.
Do not discharge a phone to “recalibrate” it
Google says, “You don’t need to teach your phone the battery’s capacity by going from full charge to zero, or zero to full.” Repeatedly running a phone flat is not a universal battery reset procedure.
Factory reset is a separate, last-resort action
A factory data reset removes phone data, uninstalls apps and erases associated app data. It may be relevant to persistent software problems, but it is not a battery control and should not be used simply to change a battery estimate or charging limit. Back up important data first, then follow the official instructions for your exact device; Google’s Android factory-reset guidance explains the consequences.
