Your Venmo username is shown in the app under Me, then the Settings gear, then Account and Profile. The value in the Username field is the handle other people type to find you. It can also be viewed or edited on the web under Settings > Profile after signing in.
Find your username in the Venmo app
- Open the Venmo app and tap Me.
- Tap the Settings gear in the upper right.
- Tap Account, then Profile.
- Read the value in the Username field. To change it, edit that field and save.
Venmo’s help documentation describes this path. Screen labels can change when the app updates, so if a label differs, look for the username field inside the profile settings.

Find your username on the web
Sign in to Venmo in a browser, select Settings, then Profile. The username is viewable and editable there, as in the app.

Your username is not the same as your name
Venmo treats the username as its own profile field, separate from your first and last name. Your display name on your profile can look like a handle, but it may not be the value someone needs to search for you. When a friend asks for your Venmo handle, give them the exact text in the Username field.

Username rules
- Length: 5 to 30 characters, according to Venmo’s username help article. The article does not state a publication year.
- Allowed special characters: hyphens and underscores only.
- Changing it: edit the Username field in Account > Profile and save.
Share your profile without typing the username
Venmo offers a personal Venmo me QR code. In the app, go to Me, tap the QR-code button on your profile picture, and select Venmo me. The code is linked to your profile, and you can share it by text, email, or other methods the app offers. Someone who scans it reaches your profile.
Venmo also has a separate Show to Pay code for paying at participating stores. It is a different function and does not serve as your profile code.

If people cannot find your account
Check the searchability setting at Me > Settings > Privacy > Find Me. Venmo says these preferences control whether your account is searchable on Venmo or PayPal. This is separate from payment privacy, which controls who can see your transaction activity. Changing one does not change the other, so if someone cannot find you, check Find Me and do not assume the problem is your payment privacy setting.
