Safari on iPad has a one-step close-all command that is scoped to the current Tab Group. Chrome on Android has a Close all tabs option in its tab switcher. Samsung Browser on Galaxy tablets has a Close all tabs option that asks you to confirm. Chrome on iPad, as Google currently documents it, closes tabs one at a time. Identify the app first, then follow the matching steps below.
Identify your browser first
Look at the app icon or the app name shown in your tablet’s menus. The table below compares the four browsers covered by the official support pages reviewed for this guide. If your tablet runs a different browser, such as one preinstalled by the manufacturer, the steps here may not match it. Check that app’s tab menu for a close-all option.

Safari on iPad
Apple’s support page Open and close tabs in Safari on iPad describes this method. Apple’s current page covers the Tab Group scope; it does not describe clearing every Tab Group in one step.
- Open Safari.
- Tap the Tabs button.
- Touch and hold Done, then tap “Close All [number of] Tabs.”
If you keep tabs in several Tab Groups, this command closes only the group you are viewing. Switch to each other group and repeat the steps. Apple also notes that the tab bar layout can change how menus and other items appear, so the labels you see may differ slightly.

Chrome on an Android tablet
Google’s help page Manage tabs in Chrome – Android documents the close-all command below.
- Open Chrome and tap Switch tabs beside the address bar.
- Tap More.
- Tap “Close all tabs.”
- If Chrome asks you to confirm, confirm the action. The prompt may refer to tabs and groups.
Close all tabs versus close all inactive tabs
Chrome also offers Close all inactive tabs. This is a separate action from Close all tabs, and it leaves active tabs open. Use the inactive option when you want to clear tabs you have not visited recently while keeping the ones you are working on. Google’s page also describes selecting multiple tabs in the tab switcher and closing them together, which works well for a partial cleanup.

Chrome on an iPad
Google’s help page Manage tabs in Chrome – iPhone & iPad describes closing tabs individually on iPad by tapping the Close control on each tab. The Close All steps on the same page are listed under the iPhone instructions. Do not assume the iPhone steps match your iPad layout.
If you have many tabs open, close them one at a time from the tab switcher. Before you start, check the current Chrome interface on your iPad for any bulk option, since Chrome updates can add one.

Samsung Browser on a Galaxy tablet
Samsung’s support page Open or close tabs in Samsung Browser on your Galaxy phone or tablet was published in July 2026, according to the listing metadata. It documents the steps below.
- Open Samsung Browser and tap the Tabs icon.
- Tap More options (three vertical dots).
- Tap “Close all tabs.”
- Tap “Close” to confirm.
If you close a tab by mistake, open More options and choose the reopen option for closed tabs. Samsung’s page also describes settings that close unused tabs automatically. These are optional. You do not need them to clear tabs now.

What closing tabs does and does not do
The steps above close browser tabs. They do not, on their own, establish any other outcome. The cited pages do not say that closing tabs clears:
- Browsing history
- Cookies and site data
- Downloads
- Tabs synced to your other devices
To clear those, use the browser’s separate history or privacy settings. Each browser stores them differently, so check that app’s settings directly.

Caveats
These steps reflect Apple, Google and Samsung support pages as they stood in early October 2026. Browser versions, tablet operating systems and menu labels change over time. If a label on your screen differs from the one shown here, look for the same action in the tab switcher or tabs menu.
