On Windows, open Settings > System > About and look under Device specifications. On a Mac, open Activity Monitor > Memory and read Physical Memory. For a Chromebook, Dell documents a check through chrome://system/. These figures show installed RAM capacity; they are not the same as memory currently in use or disk storage.
Check installed RAM on Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Right-click Start and choose Settings.
- Select System, then About.
- Under Device specifications, find the amount of RAM installed.
Microsoft documents this route for Windows 10 and Windows 11 in its Windows device information guide. For a more detailed inventory, search for msinfo32 and open System Information; Microsoft describes it as a tool for viewing hardware, system components, and the software environment. Some information may be limited in Safe Mode, and running without administrator privileges can affect driver-status details, according to Microsoft’s System Information tool documentation.

Do not use Settings > System > Storage for this check: that page reports disk space, not RAM. Microsoft states that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; the PC continues to work, but Microsoft no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes after that date.

- Open Activity Monitor.
- Click the Memory tab.
- Read Physical Memory for the installed RAM amount.
Apple defines Physical Memory as the amount of RAM installed. Memory Used is the amount currently in use. The same tab also displays Memory Pressure, app memory, wired memory, compressed memory, cached files, and swap used. See Apple’s Activity Monitor guide to memory usage.
#1 Best Overall
- Disclaimer: Maximum Speed requires overclocking/PC BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depend on system components, including motherboard and CPU
- Hand-sorted memory chips ensure high performance with generous overclocking headroom
- VENGEANCE LPX is optimized for wide compatibility with the latest Intel and AMD DDR4 motherboards
- A low-profile height of just 34mm ensures that VENGEANCE LPX even fits in most small-form-factor builds
- A solid aluminum heatspreader efficiently dissipates heat from each module so that they consistently run at high clock speeds

For a fuller hardware and software inventory, go to Apple menu > System Settings > General > About > System Report. Apple also documents holding Option while opening the Apple menu, then choosing System Information. The exact guide can be selected for different macOS versions in Apple’s System Information User Guide.

- Open the browser and enter
chrome://system/in the address bar. - Find Memory_spd_info and expand it.
- Read Size_MB for the installed memory amount.
These steps are documented by Dell in its Chromebook RAM instructions. The procedure is manufacturer-specific; if the field is absent or your Chromebook’s interface differs, consult the support information for its maker and exact model.

Installed RAM, current usage, and storage are different
- Installed RAM is the computer’s memory capacity. On Windows, find it in About; on Mac, it is labeled Physical Memory; Dell’s Chromebook instructions identify it as Size_MB.
- Current memory usage changes as apps and system processes run. Activity Monitor shows this live view on Mac under Memory Used and related indicators.
- Storage is disk space for files and apps. The Windows Storage settings page reports storage, not RAM.
