Conbun’s published engineering account says its team built the veterinary consultation app as a native Android product, centered on Kotlin, because it prioritized responsive screens and real-time video. Its account also describes a challenge common to mobile services: slow connections. The team says caching and Kotlin Coroutines helped reduce load times, but it publishes no benchmark or capacity data—so the story offers architectural choices and qualitative lessons, not proof of a measured scaling result.
Why Conbun chose native Android
Conbun describes itself as an India-focused online veterinary consultation service. In its engineering account, the team says it chose a fully native Android build, using Kotlin as its main language and Java where needed. It considered Flutter and React Native as possible ways to build a faster MVP, but said responsiveness and real-time video made native development the preferred fit for its priorities. Conbun’s engineering account records the team’s rationale; it is not an independent comparison or technical audit of the alternatives.

That distinction matters. The account explains why Conbun made its choice, but provides no controlled results showing that native Android outperformed Flutter or React Native. For another team, the trade-off would depend on its delivery timeline, target platforms, video requirements, available Android and cross-platform expertise, and the amount of platform-specific work it expects to maintain.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

| Area | Tools or approach described | Role in the account |
|---|---|---|
| Language and structure | Kotlin, with Java where needed; MVVM and Android Jetpack components | Native Android implementation organized around a model-view-viewmodel structure and Jetpack components. |
| REST networking | Retrofit 2 and OkHttp 3 | Tools the team names for REST calls and network communication. |
| Asynchronous and reactive work | RxJava and Kotlin Coroutines | Used alongside one another for reactive and background work. |
| Dependency injection | javax/inject with Dagger/Hilt | The dependency-injection tools named in the article. |
| Notifications and analytics | Firebase Cloud Messaging and Firebase Analytics | Services named for push notifications and analytics. |
| Google services | Google Play Services for location and Google Sign-In | Services the account associates with location and sign-in. |
| Passing objects between screens | Parceler | Named for passing objects between Activities and Fragments. |
| Code obfuscation | ProGuard/R8 | Tools the team says it used for obfuscation. |
The listed technologies cover separate concerns rather than one scaling mechanism: app structure, API communication, background work, integrations, and obfuscation. The article does not detail how these pieces were configured, how the team migrated between tools, or how its production architecture changed over time.
What the team says it learned from slow connections
Conbun identifies slow mobile connections as an early difficulty. The team says that Retrofit caching, combined with Kotlin Coroutines, helped cut load times. That is a qualitative report: the article gives no before-and-after timings, network profiles, test method, user-load figures, or latency targets. It therefore cannot show how large the improvement was or whether it would transfer to another app.

The useful engineering lesson is narrower: network-dependent screens need to account for unreliable connectivity, and work that can happen outside the immediate UI path should not make the interface feel blocked. Conbun summarizes its approach as: “Keeping UI dead simple while running complex network calls in background was key.” That is a line from the company-authored article, not a quotation attributed to a named engineer.
Caching can reduce repeated network work when data is suitable for reuse, while background execution can keep network operations from occupying the main UI thread. But the account does not specify which responses were cached, their freshness rules, error handling, or how consultations and video behaved offline. Those details cannot be inferred from the brief description.

What “scaling” does—and does not—mean here
The engineering article does not publish active-user growth, request volume, service uptime, latency measurements, concurrency limits, infrastructure capacity, or a dated series of technical milestones. It describes choices and a reported networking challenge; it does not establish how much load the app handled or how reliably it did so.
Conbun’s About page claims 4L+ app downloads, 100k+ happy pet parents, 2k+ reviews, and 500+ verified vets. Those are company-reported promotional figures, not an independently verified growth series or engineering-capacity measurements. Google Play’s Conbun: Vet Consultation App listing names CONBUN SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED as developer, shows 100K+ downloads, and lists an August 11, 2026 update date. Store download counts and company headline figures provide product context, but neither tells readers how the backend scales or measures service reliability.

Conbun’s official site advertises 24/7 consultations, prices starting at ₹199, and video appointments at ₹299. These are current company statements, not independently audited service levels or medical-outcome evidence. The site says remote consultations are best for minor or non-emergency concerns; for emergencies, a digital consultation should not replace in-person veterinary care. That context helps explain why responsiveness and video mattered to the team: the app supports access to a remote consultation. It does not mean that a well-designed interface can resolve every veterinary problem, nor does the engineering story establish clinical effectiveness.
