How Claude Usage Limits Compare Across Plans (2026)

Claude limits are not fixed message counts. Compare published allowances, five-hour and weekly resets, per-member Team limits, and how API usage differs.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Claude’s plans are best compared by their published usage allowances and reset rules—not by a guaranteed number of messages. Pro has a five-hour session limit and a separate weekly limit; Max offers 5x or 20x Pro’s allowance; and Team limits are per member, with different Standard and Premium tiers. Your actual usage depends on what you ask Claude to do.

Claude plan limits at a glance

The figures below reflect Anthropic’s official guidance checked on October 4, 2026. Prices are US guidance; regional pricing, taxes, availability, and plan terms can differ. “5x” and similar figures describe relative allowances, not fixed prompt counts.

Plan or seat Published usage allowance Reset or allocation Price in official US guidance
Free Limited usage; exact current allowance varies. A stable message count is not established in the reviewed guidance. Exact current allowance and reset details are not established in the reviewed guidance. $0 in the official plan comparison result.
Pro More usage per session than Free. Session limit resets every five hours, plus a weekly limit across models. Weekly reset time is assigned to the account. $20/month; annual billing is offered. Regional and tax differences apply.
Max 5x 5x Pro’s usage allowance. Higher individual allowance; actual message count varies with workload and model. $100/month for a web subscription.
Max 20x 20x Pro’s usage allowance. Higher individual allowance; actual message count varies with workload and model. $200/month for a web subscription.
Team Standard 1.25x Pro’s per-session allowance. Separate limit for each member; weekly limit applies across models. Organizations can enable usage credits for continued use after included usage is reached. $25/member/month billed monthly, or $20/member/month billed annually; US prices before applicable taxes.
Team Premium 6.25x Pro’s per-session allowance. Separate limit for each member; weekly limit applies across models. Organizations can enable usage credits for continued use after included usage is reached. $125/member/month billed monthly, or $100/member/month billed annually; US prices before applicable taxes.
Enterprise Depends on the arrangement. Usage-based Enterprise is billed on consumption and has no specific usage limits in the general usage guidance; seat-based Enterprise has usage monitoring. Confirm the organization’s arrangement; there is no single universal Enterprise limit. Not stated in the reviewed official sources.

Why Claude does not have one dependable message count per plan

A short text exchange and a long task with files, browsing, or code can use different amounts of the allowance. Anthropic lists several factors that affect consumption:

  • Message and file attachment length.
  • How long the current conversation is.
  • Model and effort level.
  • Tool use, including Research and web search.
  • Artifact creation and use.
  • Multi-step work, such as running code, creating files, or browsing websites.

Reused project content is cached and counts less against limits, according to Anthropic’s usage guidance. These variables mean a published allowance multiple cannot be converted reliably into a universal number of prompts.

How Pro’s session and weekly limits work

Pro has two distinct limits: a session-based limit that resets every five hours, and a weekly limit that applies across all models. The weekly reset is assigned to the account; it is not tied to the date you started or renewed the subscription. Claude’s Pro plan guidance says Settings > Usage shows the next weekly reset.

For your current session and weekly usage progress, open Settings > Usage. The page is more useful than estimating from a generic message count because your remaining allowance depends on your own model and workload choices.

How to compare Max and Team with Pro

Max: more individual usage

Anthropic describes Max 5x and Max 20x as providing 5x and 20x Pro’s usage allowance, respectively. These are comparisons to Pro’s allowance, not promises of a set number of messages. The official Max guidance lists monthly-only web subscriptions at $100 and $200 per month in the US when checked on October 4, 2026. See Anthropic’s Max plan details.

Team: per-member allowances

Team Standard provides 1.25x Pro’s per-session usage allowance, while Premium provides 6.25x. Each member has an individual allowance; members do not draw from one shared team message pool. The Team guidance also describes account-assigned weekly resets. Organizations may enable usage credits to let members continue after included usage is exhausted. Details and US seat prices are in Anthropic’s Team plan guidance.

Enterprise: check the organization’s billing arrangement

Do not infer a universal Enterprise quota from the plan name. Anthropic distinguishes usage-based Enterprise, which is billed by consumption and has no specific usage limits in the general guidance, from seat-based Enterprise, where usage is monitored. The organization’s agreement determines which applies; see usage limit best practices.

Claude Code and API usage are not the same allowance

Claude Code activity on Pro and Max shares the plan’s Claude usage allowance. By contrast, Claude API or Console use is billed separately from a Pro subscription. If you use Claude for coding, check whether your workflow authenticates through the subscription or uses API credentials: the billing and limits follow that distinction. Anthropic explains this in its Claude Code plan guidance.

Which plan fits your usage pattern?

  • Free: a way to use Claude with limited usage, but the reviewed official comparison does not establish a stable message count or detailed current reset schedule.
  • Pro: an individual subscription with more per-session use than Free, plus a five-hour session reset and a weekly cap.
  • Max: an individual option when Pro’s relative allowance is insufficient; choose between the published 5x and 20x tiers based on your workload and budget, not a supposed guaranteed prompt count.
  • Team: an organization plan when members need separate individual allowances and an administrator-managed workspace; Standard and Premium differ in per-session allowance.
  • Enterprise: confirm whether the organization has usage-based or seat-based terms before comparing its limits with individual plans.
