Starting Civilians and reported account-level unlocks
The September 2026 guide by AllThingsHow Staff reports four Civilians available from the start, followed by five unlocked at the listed account levels. The precise milestones below are secondary reporting, not character-by-character thresholds published by the developer.

Once you reach a reported account-level threshold, the guide says the character becomes selectable without a separate claim or redeem step. If a character still appears locked, check the in-game roster; the guide’s milestones may not reflect a later update.

IllFonic’s September 3, 2026 launch announcement says the game has 10 playable Civilians at launch and identifies Richard and Alexis as additional playable Civilians included with Digital Deluxe. The AllThingsHow guide reports their full names as Richard Hawthorne and Alexis Purcell.

- Laurie Strode: the guide lists her in the Digital Deluxe group and says she is unlocked early. The official launch notice’s explicit edition footnote does not name Laurie, so her precise access condition is not confirmed by that notice.
For Laurie in particular, verify the current edition description in the store for your platform rather than assuming the guide’s reported terms still apply.
How Player Progression unlocks characters
IllFonic’s Progression & Customization Overview, published September 2, 2026, says experience earned in matches or the single-player story applies across four progression categories: Profile Level, Killer Level, Civilian Level, and Weapon Level. Profile XP spans roles; Killer Level is earned while playing Michael; Civilian Level is tied to each playable Civilian; and Weapon Level grows by using specific weapons as Michael.

The overview says raising Player Progression Levels unlocks additional playable Civilians, among other rewards. It does not give the individual level requirements for the five characters in the table, so use those numbers as guide-reported milestones rather than official guarantees.
What to consider when choosing a Civilian
The developer says Civilians have unique stats and signature traits. Its overview groups stats into four categories:

- Athleticism: movement on foot and by bike.

- Capability: vigor and performance with melee weapons or throwable household items.
These categories describe different areas of performance, not a published ranking of which character is strongest. The available official overview does not establish a tier list or a best team composition.
