Churches can use video to explain a specific need, show what a gift will support, and give viewers a clear route to donate. Video can make an appeal easier to understand, but it does not guarantee more donations: measure views, donation-page visits, and completed gifts separately.
How can churches use video to increase donations?
Start with one ministry need, project, or outcome. Explain why it matters, what the church is doing, and how someone can help. Then place a clear invitation and a working donation link where viewers can act on it.

Keep the appeal specific and truthful. If you name a funding goal, explain what it covers and make sure the amount and use of funds are accurate. Avoid implying that a particular gift will produce an outcome the church cannot substantiate. YouTube cautions against false donation claims and misleading engagement practices in its fundraising guidance.
Use one story and one action
A leader, volunteer, or participant can describe the need in plain language. Focus on what the project is, whom it serves, and what the viewer can do next. Emotional pressure and elaborate production are not prerequisites for a clear appeal.

How do I make a church fundraising video?
- Choose the purpose. Identify the project or ministry need and what the church can accurately say about its costs, timeline, and intended impact.
- Choose the speaker and get approval. Ask a church leader, volunteer, or participant who can speak comfortably. Obtain church-approved permission before recording people, especially minors or people receiving services, and follow the church’s safeguarding and privacy practices. Requirements differ by jurisdiction; consult the church’s safeguarding or legal guidance.
- Write a short, direct script. Name the need, explain why it matters, state what support will do, and end with a single clear giving instruction. Do not promise a donation outcome you cannot verify.
- Plan for where it will appear. Decide whether the video is for a website, a service presentation, or social sharing before filming; frame it for that placement. Consider making a short version for sharing and a version suited to the church website or service.
- Record stable footage with understandable speech. A smartphone is enough to begin. YouTube’s nonprofit video guide recommends stabilizing the phone, cleaning its lens, avoiding interruptions, and paying attention to the opening seconds. Natural light can help; frame the speaker so viewers can see them clearly.
- Prioritize audio. Record in a quiet place and speak close to the phone. If speech is hard to understand, a smartphone-compatible lavalier microphone is an optional way to improve voice capture; it is not required.
- Add captions or key on-screen text where practical. Make the central message and donation destination understandable when sound is off. Check that captions and text are accurate and readable.
- Check the appeal and link before publishing. Confirm that the destination is the church’s legitimate giving page, the campaign purpose is clear, and the giving methods work for the congregation. Test the link on a phone as well as a computer.

Where should the donation link go?
Choose a route the church can verify and maintain. YouTube says eligible channels in certain locations can add a Donate button to videos and live streams for available nonprofits. Eligibility and availability depend on the channel and location, so check the current requirements before building a campaign around the feature. Google for Nonprofits says YouTube Giving fundraisers require a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) public charity and a Google for Nonprofits account; churches should verify whether those requirements apply to their own status and location.

If the channel is not eligible for YouTube Giving, YouTube advises using an end screen to link to an external fundraiser. End screens can appear during the last 5–20 seconds of a video. Google for Nonprofits also describes “Link anywhere cards” for participating nonprofit channels to direct viewers to external campaign landing pages; check current participation requirements.
Whatever route you use, make the destination unmistakably the church’s legitimate giving page. Explain the purpose of the campaign there, and ensure the available giving methods suit the congregation. Givelify’s 2026 Giving in Faith research describes a mix of traditional and digital giving. Its findings also caution against treating automatic recurring gifts as the right goal for every donor: recurring-giving tools may be most useful to people who already have established giving habits.

How should a church tell whether the video worked?
Track the steps separately rather than treating views as donations:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Exposure: Record views or other available measures of how many people encountered the video.
- Visits: Use a trackable link where practical to count visits to the campaign or giving page.
- Completed gifts: Review completed donations through the church’s giving system, using reporting that can be compared with the campaign’s baseline.
Compare results with a defined period or a prior baseline, and be cautious about attribution. Donations made while a campaign is running are not automatically donations caused by the video. The sources available do not establish a reliable percentage increase in church donations from video, or a validated church-video conversion benchmark.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell churches
YouTube presents video as a way for nonprofits to tell stories and make giving easier, but that platform guidance is not a controlled estimate of how much church donations will increase. A 2021 Tectonic Video index analyzed more than 112,000 social-media video posts from 778 nonprofit organizations, comparing 2020 with 2019. It describes pandemic-era changes in nonprofit video and fundraising use; it is neither a current church-only benchmark nor evidence that video caused donations.
Givelify’s 2026 report page describes a research base that includes 894 church leaders surveyed, 1,987 faith-based donors surveyed, $7.2 billion in Givelify donations analyzed, and 1.7 million donor giving patterns represented. Those figures describe that study’s base, not an independent census of churches. The Church of England’s 2025 Anglican Giving Survey used an online panel of 2,000 self-identified Anglicans who attend at least monthly; it is denominational context, not evidence of video impact.
None of these figures supports a promise that a church video will raise donations by a particular amount. Treat video as a way to communicate an appeal, then evaluate your own campaign’s results carefully.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the church also wants an uploaded video or playlist to keep a YouTube channel live 24/7, StreamNeo runs that pre-recorded content from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
- Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream continues with the church computer off.
- Any quality up to 4K 60fps as uploaded, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, one free day per account.
Monthly pricing: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plans include one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and support; the product is the same on every plan, with billing length changing. See StreamNeo pricing, then start the free day.
