Businesses build customer loyalty with video by helping people at the moments they need it: show what a product does before purchase, teach customers how to use it afterward, recognize them personally, and invite them to shape what comes next. Give each video one customer need and one useful next step. Views and likes can show attention, but loyalty is better judged by behavior over time—such as repeat purchases, renewals, support needs, and churn.
Map video to the customer journey
A video that attracts a new audience has a different job from one that helps an existing customer complete a task. Begin by identifying the moment of uncertainty, effort, or opportunity, then choose a format that addresses it.

| Customer moment | Useful video formats | Primary purpose | Possible next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discovery | Short brand stories, employee stories, or creator collaborations | Make the business memorable and relatable | Explore a product, follow a channel, or learn more |
| Evaluation | Product demonstrations, customer stories, and comparisons | Answer questions and help customers decide whether the product fits | View details, ask a question, or choose a product |
| Onboarding and routine use | Welcome videos, tutorials, and how-to guides | Help customers get value and complete a task | Try a feature or follow the next instruction |
| Support, renewal, or reactivation | Targeted explainers, product updates, and relevant personal follow-ups | Resolve uncertainty and make the next choice clear | Get help, review options, renew, or return |
Econsultancy’s May 29, 2026 guidance describes video as most useful when it is made for a particular moment and purpose. There is no universally best video length or platform established for every business: test the format against your audience and the action you want to support.

Show the product doing its real job
A clear demonstration can address practical questions that polished claims leave unanswered: how the product works, what it looks like in use, and what a customer needs to do first. Keep the demonstration focused on the customer’s decision rather than adding features that do not answer that decision.

Use human stories to make the business relatable
Employee perspectives, creator collaborations, and customer stories can help people understand the people and experiences behind a business. Think with Google’s August 2025 article about HSBC in Hong Kong describes a campaign using employee stories and creator partnerships across Shorts and longer videos. Google reported that YouTube subscribers increased by 40%, likes were 11 times higher, and shares were 2.8 times higher than for HSBC’s previous commercial videos. These are campaign response measures, not evidence that video alone produced lasting customer loyalty.
Pair online attention with a meaningful action
Video can introduce an experience that continues elsewhere. In a Hong Kong campaign for McDonald’s 50th anniversary, creator videos promoted a physical bench hunt with app QR codes and food and drink prizes, supported by connected-TV advertising, Shorts, bumper ads, and other formats. Think with Google reported 120,000 new app registrations and a view-through rate six percentage points higher than the previous year. That is a result from one integrated campaign; it does not isolate video’s effect on loyalty or establish a formula every business can repeat.

Make onboarding easy to act on
Welcome customers with the essential first steps, then direct them to the next task they are likely to need. Short, clearly titled tutorials can reduce the effort of finding an answer. A useful tutorial teaches a specific outcome, uses the product as the customer encounters it, and avoids making the viewer search through unrelated material.

Build a searchable how-to library
Organize guidance around customer tasks and common questions, not only product names or campaign dates. Dyson’s haircare how-to library is an example of practical videos intended to help customers get results from products. This supports education as a post-purchase use case; the cited example does not report a quantified retention effect.

Make follow-up personal when it is genuinely relevant
A brief thank-you or check-in can make a customer feel recognized when it refers to a real interaction and offers a useful next step. Econsultancy reports that family-run Goat Milk Stuff sent personalized thank-you videos after purchases using Bonjoro; the approach helped encourage testimonials and customer-made videos. No quantified retention result is supplied, so treat it as an example of a personal follow-up, not a guaranteed loyalty tactic.
Personalized videos may involve customer-specific information. Make sure the information is appropriate to use and that the process follows the rules that apply where your business operates. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, and the examples here do not establish legal guidance.

Invite feedback, then show what changed
Video can explain a request for feedback, share customer stories, or report back on improvements. But asking customers to watch or contribute is not itself a loyalty strategy. The important part is listening and acting: invite input on a concrete issue, consider it alongside other evidence, and tell customers what you changed—or why you did not change it.

Concentrix recommends treating loyalty members as a feedback community. Its guidance puts the value in customer insight, not simply in adding another campaign touchpoint. A short update from a team member can make the response easier to understand, but a clear written update may be more suitable for some customers or situations.

Measure whether video helps customers stay
Choose measures that match the video’s job. Separate immediate attention and actions from customer outcomes that take time. Likes, views, shares, app registrations, and view-through rates can help show campaign response; on their own, they do not show that customers are more loyal.
| Video objective | Useful measures | What the measure can tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Awareness | Completed views, recall, and relevant follow-up actions | Whether the intended audience noticed or remembered the message |
| Consideration | Questions answered, product-detail visits, or next-step clicks | Whether the video helped customers evaluate the offer |
| Onboarding and customer success | Tutorial use, task completion where measurable, and related support contacts | Whether customers are using guidance and getting help with the task |
| Retention | Repeat purchase, renewal, and churn over an appropriate period | Whether customer behavior changed over time |
| B2B account health | Account engagement, at-risk account recovery, and renewal | How account relationships are progressing; these are measures recommended by Vidyard, a video vendor |
Where practical, compare customers who received the video with a suitable baseline or comparison group, while accounting for differences that could affect the result. Give repeat purchase, renewal, and churn enough time to emerge. The cited campaign examples are not controlled, general-purpose estimates of video’s effect on loyalty, and they do not show that video alone caused the reported outcomes.
Choose a production approach you can sustain
- Reusable, in-house videos: A good fit for stable onboarding and frequently asked questions. Keep guidance current when products or processes change.
- Creator partnerships: Can bring an outside perspective to discovery or a campaign. Choose a creator and format that suit the audience and the action, rather than treating reach as proof of customer retention.
- Personalized messages: Can recognize a particular customer or account, but require more staff effort and thoughtful handling of customer information.
- Customer contributions: Stories and feedback can help a business understand customer experience. Make participation optional and close the loop by explaining what the business learned or changed.
For each approach, consider the customer moment, the specific job the video needs to do, the effort required to produce and maintain it, the channel customers use, and the outcome you can measure. Start with one customer problem and improve the video based on what customers do next.
