Audible credits are a membership benefit for eligible titles, not cash: use them before they expire or your membership ends. Audiobooks you buy with credits or payment stay in your Library after cancellation, but access to titles included with Premium membership ends with the membership benefit. The details below reflect Audible’s United States English help pages as accessed October 4, 2026; plans and terms can differ in other marketplaces.
What Audible credits are and how you use them
Audible Premium plans provide credits, with the amount and delivery schedule determined by the plan. Audible’s US help page describes plans with one or two credits per month, or 12 or 24 credits delivered upfront annually. Credits apply to titles marked with a “1 credit” badge; they cannot be used to purchase audiobooks with Amazon Music Unlimited. See Audible’s explanation of credits.

Credits are one way to acquire an audiobook, not a cash balance. Audible also lets members and nonmembers buy titles with a credit or payment, subject to the available purchase options for that title. The plan’s credit quantity alone does not determine which membership is the best value: included-title access, member discounts, billing channel, and the current price also matter.

Most membership, gift, complimentary, special, and returned credits expire 12 months after they are issued or when membership ends. There are exceptions, including credits received through App Store or Google Play membership and extra credits bought in Audible’s iOS or Android apps, which Audible’s help page says do not expire under its stated terms. Credits returned after an audiobook return expire 12 months after issuance, even if the original credit had a different type or expiration treatment.

Before canceling or changing plans, check the credit summary in your Audible account: it shows individual expiration dates. Audible says a switch from Premium to Standard retains credits with their original expiration dates. Because credit rules depend on how a credit was obtained, use the account’s displayed dates rather than assuming every credit has the same deadline.
Buying extra credits
Audible may offer eligible members extra credits in bundles, but availability depends on account and plan criteria. Its US help page says you must be on a credit-including plan, have no credits remaining, and have held the same membership for at least 30 days. Audible Plus and legacy memberships created before December 2005 are not eligible; trial members are not eligible for discounted extra credits. The purchase flow and any offer can vary between the app and web, so check your account for current availability and terms rather than relying on a quoted bundle price.

What you keep after canceling
At the end of the final billing cycle, unused credits and Premium membership benefits end. That includes access to titles available only through the included catalog. Titles bought with a credit or with a credit or debit card remain in your Library and can be downloaded again after cancellation. A locked included-catalog title may be available to buy separately or become accessible again if you rejoin, depending on the title’s purchase options. See Audible’s cancellation guidance.

You can continue purchasing available titles without an active membership. This is separate from included-catalog access: a title available as a membership benefit is not necessarily a title you own.

How to cancel an Audible membership
Use the channel that bills you. Deleting the Audible app does not cancel a membership.
- Web-billed membership: open Audible’s Membership details and follow the cancellation prompts.
- App Store subscription: cancel through your Apple account’s subscription settings.
- Google Play subscription: cancel through Google Play’s subscription settings.
If you plan to leave, use credits before the final billing period ends and review their individual expiration dates first.

Returning an audiobook
Audible’s US help page describes returns for eligible titles bought with a credit by active Premium members in good standing, within 365 days of purchase. It is not an unconditional satisfaction guarantee: Audible may limit the number of returns or remove self-service return access. A returned title is removed from your Library, and the refunded credit expires 12 months after it was issued. Canceling membership does not cancel an existing pre-order. A credit used for a pre-order remains applied; if you chose card payment, Audible charges the card when the title becomes available. If the card-funded pre-order’s price is lower on release day, Audible says it refunds the difference. You can cancel a pre-order through Purchase history before release. Marketplace and regional differences
Your Audible marketplace determines available plans, prices, and titles. A marketplace change takes effect with the next billing cycle. Purchased titles remain in your Library after a switch, but regional restrictions may prevent playback of some titles. How to compare membership options
Before choosing or changing a plan, compare the details that affect your actual use:
- How many credits the plan provides and whether they arrive monthly or upfront annually.
- Whether included-catalog access and member discounts matter to you.
- The current price shown for your marketplace and account.
- Whether you are billed directly, through Apple, or through Google Play, since billing channel affects cancellation and some credit terms.
Audible’s cited help material gives credit quantities and broad benefit categories, but not a complete, current price-and-feature comparison. Do not infer a cheapest plan or cost per credit from the credit count alone; check the live offer and the value of benefits you would actually use.
