How ARC Raiders Quest Progress and Extraction Rewards Work

ARC Raiders separates Raider XP, Cred, event rewards and Expedition resets. Extraction mattered for Forgotten Relics relic Merits, while the fifth Expedition let players keep quest progress.

Not every reward in ARC Raiders depends on extraction. Raider XP advances levels and grants skill points, while challenge-earned Cred unlocks Raider Deck rewards. Extraction can be an additional requirement for particular event rewards: during the June 2026 Forgotten Relics event, relic Merits counted only when a Raider extracted with the relic in hand. Expeditions are a separate, voluntary reset system; for the fifth Expedition, players could choose to keep their quest progress.

What counts as progress in ARC Raiders?

Several systems advance in parallel, and their rewards have different conditions. Raider XP affects level and skill points. Cred is spent on Raider Deck rewards. Event progress may use its own currency or objectives. An Expedition can reset some character progress, with quest-reset choices depending on the Expedition. Treating these as one universal “quest progress” meter leads to the wrong conclusion about what survives a run or a reset.

System How progress is earned What it advances or unlocks Does extraction matter?
Raider XP Collected through activities topside, according to the official gameplay FAQ. Raider levels; each level grants a skill point to spend on abilities. The FAQ describes XP progression but does not establish a general extraction requirement for it.
Cred Earned by playing and completing challenges, including small topside objectives. Unlocks rewards in the Raider Deck. The FAQ does not say that all Cred or Deck rewards require extraction.
Event progress Depends on the particular event; in Forgotten Relics, play XP converted to Merits and relics could provide extra Merits. Event rewards and, in that event, contributions to the Converging Paths project. For relic Merits in Forgotten Relics, yes: successful extraction with the relic in hand was required.
Expedition progress Unlocked at level 20; participation is a voluntary reset choice. Expedition rewards and a new progression cycle, with reset and carry-over details shaped by the applicable Expedition rules. Extraction is not the defining rule. The relevant choice is whether to depart and what progress to reset.

This distinction matters because the official gameplay FAQ describes XP and Cred separately. It does not say that every quest gives XP, that every reward is an XP reward, or that all rewards are withheld if a Raider fails to extract. The available general information is not a complete reward table for every ordinary quest or every run outcome.

How Raider XP, levels, Cred and Raider Decks differ

XP raises Raider level

The official Nexon gameplay FAQ says Raiders collect XP through activities topside. Leveling up grants a skill point, which can be spent on abilities. That is character progression: XP is the progress measure, Raider level is the milestone, and skill points are the resulting ability investment.

Do not infer a more specific quest payout from that description. It establishes that activities topside award XP, but it does not provide a complete list of which named quests award XP, how much each awards, or whether a particular quest objective is paid out before or after extraction. Those details should be checked in the current game or in current official quest notes, rather than assumed from the leveling rule.

Cred unlocks Raider Deck rewards

Cred is a different progression resource. The FAQ says players earn it by playing and completing challenges, including small objectives topside, then spend it to unlock Raider Deck rewards. A challenge that earns Cred is therefore not the same thing as an XP award, and spending Cred on a Deck reward is not the same as spending a skill point.

When evaluating an objective, identify the listed reward rather than relying on the word “progress.” An objective may contribute to a challenge or event, while an activity may contribute XP; the official FAQ does not make every category interchangeable. If a reward screen or current objective description gives a specific condition, use that condition for that reward.

When extraction affects event rewards

The clearest extraction-gated example in the official material is the Forgotten Relics event, described in ARC Raiders Live Update 1.33.0 on June 16, 2026. In that event, XP gained by playing on any map automatically converted into Merits toward event rewards. Relics found during a run offered additional Merits, with each relic assigned a value based on its rarity. To claim the extra Merits for a relic, the Raider had to successfully extract while holding it.

Forgotten Relics activity Event consequence described in Live Update 1.33.0 Extraction condition
Play on any map and gain XP XP automatically converted into Merits toward rewards. The update describes automatic conversion; it does not attach the relic-in-hand extraction rule to this XP conversion.
Find a relic The relic had a rarity-based Merit value and offered extra Merits. The Raider needed to extract successfully with that relic in hand to claim its Merit value.
Earn event Merits Merits progressed event rewards and contributed to the Converging Paths project. The relic condition applies to relic-derived extra Merits, not as a universal rule for all event or quest rewards.

That is a specific rule for a named event, not evidence that every quest item or every reward requires a successful extraction. The same update said event progress rewarded the Saltwalker Outfit and its toggles, and that earned Merits contributed to Converging Paths. Project rewards listed included a Saltwalker color variant, a Sextant backpack charm and Raider Tokens. These are historical details for the 2026 event, not a promise that those rewards remain available now.

The update stated that the Converging Paths project ran June 16–July 27, 2026. Those dates describe that project’s event window; they should not be read as the availability dates for current quests, other events, or future versions of the reward track.

What an Expedition resets—and what can carry over

An Expedition is a voluntary progression reset rather than an ordinary quest-completion step. Embark’s original Expedition Project announcement, dated October 9, 2025, described the reset as player-chosen. In that original design, choosing to reset meant losing character-bound progress such as levels, skills, inventory, and workshop or crafting capabilities. Cosmetics, awards, achievements and rankings were described as retained. The announcement also described account unlocks, cosmetics and temporary account buffs as incentives for participating.

Embark’s Help Center article says the Expedition Project unlocks at level 20. Its October 30, 2025 update lists level, skills and XP, inventory, stash items and crafting progress among the reset items. Its carry-over list includes cosmetics and purchased items, Raider Tokens and Cred, Raider Deck progress, Codex entries, unlocked maps and previous Expedition bonuses. This is a useful general outline, but it predates the later option to keep quest progress introduced for the fifth Expedition.

Progress category General Expedition description in Embark’s 2025 Help Center Important qualification
Level, skills and XP Listed as reset. These are character-progression losses in the general description.
Inventory, stash and crafting Inventory, stash items and crafting progress are listed as reset. Do not assume carried gear or workshop progress survives a departure based on account-level carry-over items.
Cosmetics and purchased items Listed as carried over. The Help Center list is general guidance and predates the fifth Expedition quest choice.
Cred and Raider Deck progress Listed as carried over. These account-facing progression items differ from the character-bound progress listed for reset.
Codex entries, unlocked maps and prior Expedition bonuses Listed as carried over. The list describes the general system, not every possible item-specific retention condition.
Quest progress The older Help Center list does not establish the later fifth Expedition option. For the fifth Expedition, players could choose to keep quest progress instead of resetting it.

Embark’s design director explained the voluntary nature of the original system in the October 9, 2025 announcement: “However, one thing a mandatory wipe does not do is respect the investment of those players who do not have as much time to play overall.” The practical point is that an Expedition departure is a deliberate trade: reset certain character-bound progress for the Expedition’s benefits, while preserving the account-level items identified in the applicable rules.

How the fifth Expedition handled quest progress

The fifth Expedition introduced an explicit option to keep quests. In its August 21, 2026 announcement, the ARC Raiders Team said players could choose not to reset quests and continue from where they left off. The announcement stated: “To address this, we want to give you the option not to reset your quests and keep your progress so you can continue from where you left off.”

The fifth Expedition window ran September 8–29, 2026. Players had to sign up during that window and complete the Expedition challenge to earn its rewards. Completing the Caravan alone did not count as signing up. Players who signed up departed on the window’s closing date. Because that window has passed, these dates describe the fifth Expedition historically, not an open sign-up period.

For a player considering that Expedition, the key distinction was quest retention versus quest reset. Keeping quests meant continuing existing quest progress; it did not cancel the other reset rules for level, skills, inventory or crafting progress. The announcement establishes the quest choice, but does not provide detailed item-by-item rules for retaining every quest-related object. Do not assume an item, objective state or character resource survives unless the applicable in-game description or current official Expedition rules say so.

Embark said the fifth Expedition would be the last until early 2027 while the team worked on major improvements. That was the studio’s stated plan in August 2026, not a guaranteed return date or a published description of what those improvements would contain. Check newer official announcements for any schedule or rule changes before making a decision based on a future Expedition.

How to decide whether to extract, continue a quest or depart

If you are carrying an event item

Check whether the current event explicitly ties the item’s reward to extraction. Forgotten Relics did: the relic’s extra Merit value required successful extraction with the relic in hand. If a comparable rule appears in another event, follow that event’s text rather than extending the Forgotten Relics mechanic to all quests or loot.

If you are working toward Raider levels or Deck rewards

Keep track of the reward type. XP contributes to Raider levels and skill points; Cred from play and challenges is spent on Raider Deck rewards. The official FAQ does not establish that ordinary XP or Cred rewards are universally lost on failed extraction, so avoid using extraction as a blanket assumption for those systems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you are weighing an Expedition

  • Confirm that the Expedition is open and review its current sign-up and challenge requirements; the fifth Expedition required sign-up during its September 8–29, 2026 window and completion of its challenge for rewards.
  • Read the current reset and carry-over list before departure. The older Help Center list identifies broad categories, while later Expedition announcements can add choices such as keeping quests.
  • Decide whether you want a fresh quest run or to preserve existing quest progress if that choice is offered. The fifth Expedition offered the choice, but the available evidence does not establish that every later Expedition will use the same option.
  • Separate character-bound resources from account progress. The 2025 general list places levels, skills, XP, inventory, stash and crafting progress on the reset side, and Cred, Raider Deck progress, cosmetics, Codex entries and unlocked maps on the carry-over side.

What is not established about ordinary quests

Official materials cited here do not provide a comprehensive October 2026 table of ordinary quest completion rewards, the complete current extraction success/failure reward table, or detailed conditions for retaining every quest item. As a result, there is no supported universal answer that “quest rewards require extraction” or that “quest progress always survives a failed run.” The reliable approach is to distinguish the type of progress, then follow the current objective or event’s stated payout condition.

In short, extraction is decisive when a specific reward rule says it is—as with relic-derived Merits in Forgotten Relics. Raider XP, Cred, event progress and Expedition resets have their own mechanics; do not merge them into a single extraction rule.
