A browser-based RAW editor can process image data on your device and use WebGL for interactive adjustments, but “runs in the browser” alone does not prove that a site never sends photo data to a server. The title refers to a DEV Community post about JPEGForce, dated September 21, 2026. Its indexed summary describes a browser RAW editor built to explore browser-native graphics performance; the post itself is not available to verify its decoder, camera support, rendering pipeline, or network behavior. The distinction matters: the architecture below explains how comparable projects work, not confirmed JPEGForce features.
What “zero server uploads” does—and does not—mean
A photo editor can read a file locally, decode it in the browser, and render edits on the device. That is different from proving that the website makes no network requests: the browser still downloads the app’s code, and a site may make other requests. To substantiate a zero-upload claim, its image-processing and network behavior must be checked directly.

The JPEGForce post’s indexed excerpt describes the project as browser-based, but the accessible information does not establish whether image bytes ever leave the device. Treat “zero server uploads” as the title’s claim, not as a verified security guarantee. A local workflow can also create edit metadata or export a new image; where those files are stored is a separate question.
How a browser RAW editor turns a camera file into an image
RAW editing involves two distinct jobs. A decoder interprets camera sensor data and produces pixels; a rendering pipeline then applies visible adjustments to those pixels. WebGL2 can run image-adjustment shader passes on the client GPU, but it does not replace the RAW decoder or, by itself, prove that edits preserve full sensor-level fidelity.

- Please kindly note that GAOMON PD1161 drawing tablet is not a standalone tablet, It must be connected to a laptop or computer to work.
- [Create Right On Screen]: Sketch, draw and paint directly on the full HD 11.6" IPS screen of GAOMON PD1161 drawing tablet. And the pre-installed matte film on display makes it feel like sketching on paper while reducing uncomfortable glare and reflection at the same time.
- [Vivid Color Perfomance]: A combination of 72% NTSC (100% SRGB) color gamut and 16.7 million display colors enables to present your drawings in a more lifelike way with smoother color gradation on this drawing tablet for pc.
- [Battery-free Stylus AP50 ]: Say goodbye to the hassle of charging, GAOMON PD1161 graphics tablet includes a battery-free pen AP50 with 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt function, which is easy to control, giving you the familiar feel of standard pencil.
- [Customize Your Workflow]: The 8 press keys on the side of the PD1161 drawing monitor and 2 pen buttons can be programmble in the driver, which is great to get easy shortcus and improve workflow. Warm Reminder: it is not a standalone drawing tablet, so it should work with a computer running windows or mac OS.
Decoding RAW data
Camera RAW formats differ, so support depends on the decoder and the camera file. One documented browser project, Obscura, says it uses dcraw.js compiled to asm.js and supports Sony ARW, Canon CR2/CR3, Adobe DNG, Nikon NEF, Pentax PEF, and Fujifilm RAF. Those are Obscura’s stated capabilities, not a JPEGForce compatibility list.
RAW Viewer documents a different fallback chain: LibRaw, then dcraw, then the embedded JPEG preview. Its README identifies LibRaw 0.22.1 for its hosted/server workflow and dcraw 9.26 for file:// use, warning that the latter is older. This illustrates why a fallback may improve the chance of opening a file while changing the source of the displayed image. Neither decoder list should be attributed to JPEGForce.

Rendering adjustments
Obscura and RAW Viewer both describe WebGL2 fragment-shader rendering for adjustments. In such a design, the decoder first supplies image pixels; shader passes then calculate the adjusted display. The specific controls, color precision, export quality, and performance of JPEGForce are not established by the available description.

Preview choices affect fidelity and responsiveness
Editors can trade immediate responsiveness for detail in different ways. Obscura says it uses half-resolution previews and performs a full-resolution decode when zooming beyond 2×. RAW Viewer’s fallback to an embedded JPEG preview is another approach, but it is not the same as demosaicing and editing the RAW sensor data. RawCut explicitly describes its browser preview as using the camera-embedded JPEG rather than a full sensor-data demosaic.
Rank #3
These are different design choices, not interchangeable definitions of RAW editing. A reduced-resolution demosaic can make interaction lighter while postponing full-size work; an embedded JPEG can appear quickly but reflects the camera-generated preview. The available JPEGForce summary does not say which approach it uses.
Browser and deployment constraints are part of the design
Local file access and worker-based decoding do not behave identically in every browser or launch context. Obscura says its folder workflow relies on the File System Access API and specifies Chrome or Edge. That is a requirement of its documented workflow, not a universal browser requirement for every local editor.

RAW Viewer documents further constraints for its own implementation: threaded LibRaw needs shared memory and cross-origin isolation headers (COOP and COEP), and module workers do not run from file://. Those details show how deployment choices can affect decoder features; they are not evidence that JPEGForce uses the same libraries or has the same limitations.

Keeping the source photo off a server does not dictate how an editor handles edits or output. Obscura documents sidecar persistence, while RAW Viewer describes JPEG export. These examples show that local processing can still involve saved edit state or a newly generated file. The JPEGForce summary does not establish whether it saves sidecars, stores edits in browser storage, changes the original, or exports a particular format.

What can—and cannot—be concluded about JPEGForce
The available indexed information identifies JPEGForce as the subject of a September 21, 2026 DEV Community post and frames it as an exploration of browser-native graphics performance for RAW media. It does not provide enough detail to verify its supported camera formats, decoder and version, degree of RAW demosaicing, preview strategy, WebGL pipeline, saved-state behavior, measured speed, or whether image bytes are ever transmitted. Comparable projects make the engineering trade-offs concrete, but they cannot fill in those missing project-specific facts.
