There are two limits to keep in mind: the scheduled time and the promotional quantity. The deal ends when either the scheduled period expires or the promotional allocation is no longer available. That is why a listing can show time remaining while the offer is already fully claimed.
The allocation is not necessarily the same as all units of the product available on Amazon. A deal’s claim percentage refers to its promotional discounts, not necessarily the product’s total marketplace inventory. A listing may therefore stop offering the deal even if the product page or other sellers show availability at a different price.

How long do Amazon Lightning Deals last?
In Amazon’s US Seller Central help, Lightning Deals usually run for 4 to 12 hours, with Amazon determining the exact duration. The help page does not display a publication date, so treat this as general US seller guidance rather than a guarantee for every product, store, or event.
For the US Prime Day 2026 event, Amazon’s seller playbook says Lightning Deals may run for up to 12 hours or until they sell out. “Up to 12 hours” is a maximum for the event guidance, not a promise that every deal lasts that long.
Timer displays also differ by marketplace. Amazon’s UK consumer guidance says a timer appears beside a Lightning Deal in its final six hours. That is a UK-specific interface note, not a universal rule for every Amazon store. If a countdown is not visible, its absence does not establish that the deal has unlimited stock or a different duration.
Can a Lightning Deal sell out before the timer ends?
Yes. The discounted quantity can be claimed or purchased before the scheduled end time. If that happens, the deal may be unavailable while the countdown still shows time remaining. The countdown represents the schedule; it is not a stock guarantee and does not hold a unit for each shopper viewing the page.

Amazon’s US consumer guide explains that a deal can show “Join waitlist” when all promotional discounts are being held in other customers’ carts or have already been used to purchase the deal. It may also show the status bar at 100% claimed. In other words, “100% claimed” describes the deal allocation’s current status, not necessarily the total number of the product in Amazon’s marketplace.
Because some discounts may be held in carts rather than already purchased, the deal’s availability can be more complicated than a simple sold-out label. Amazon’s guidance says a waitlist may appear in this situation. It does not guarantee that a place will open or that joining will result in a purchase opportunity, so do not treat the waitlist as a reservation.
What the timer, claimed bar and deal price tell you
A Lightning Deal box may show the deal price, the discount, the percentage of promotional discounts claimed and the time remaining. Amazon’s US consumer article says a fuel-gauge-style claim indicator may appear when inventory is running low. Read each display as information about this promotion, not as a guarantee about product availability in general.

- Join waitlist: a control Amazon may show when all promotional discounts are held or used. It indicates a possible route to the deal if availability changes, not a guaranteed discount.
- Deal price and discount: the promotional offer displayed for that deal. Check the current listing for the terms and price before ordering.

Does adding a Lightning Deal to your cart reserve it?
The available Amazon guidance is marketplace-specific. Amazon UK says that after a shopper adds a Lightning Deal to their basket, they have 15 minutes to complete the purchase. If they do not finish within that window, they lose the deal and it may become available to another shopper.
Keep that 15-minute rule tied to Amazon UK’s published consumer guidance. The cited US materials do not establish the same checkout window, and it would be inaccurate to assume that every Amazon marketplace uses the same reservation period. Follow the timer or checkout instructions shown in your own store.
In practical terms, do not assume that seeing the deal, opening the product page, or leaving an item in a basket guarantees the offer. In the UK guidance, the basket starts a limited checkout window; it is not an indefinite hold. Where the local store’s exact rule is not clear, rely on the current on-screen message rather than treating a cart as a reservation.
Do you need Prime for Lightning Deals?
Prime eligibility depends on the Amazon store and the event. Amazon’s US guide says Prime members can see upcoming Lightning Deals before they start and that Lightning Deals are exclusive to Prime members on Prime Day. Amazon UK says Lightning Deals are exclusive to Prime members on Prime Day and Prime Big Deal Days, while shoppers can generally access them outside those events.

- Confirm the offer on the current listing. Check that the page shows a Lightning Deal, its price and discount, and any eligibility terms. Product availability elsewhere on Amazon does not mean the deal allocation is still open.
- Read both status indicators. Note the time remaining and any claimed percentage or waitlist message. A long timer does not mean the promotional quantity is still available.

“The deal has time left, so I can still get it.”
Not necessarily. A Lightning Deal can sell through its promotional allocation before the timer reaches zero. Time remaining is not a promise of stock.

Not necessarily. Amazon’s US consumer explanation says all discounts may be held in carts or used for purchases. The percentage refers to the promotional allocation, not necessarily every unit of that product offered on the marketplace.
“If I put it in my cart, it is reserved until I decide.”
