For Amazon.com orders in the U.S., most eligible items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, but the product and order details determine the actual deadline, options, and possible fees. A later price drop does not automatically entitle you to a refund of the difference: a December 2025 report says Amazon U.S. confirmed it does not automatically make that adjustment.
Will Amazon refund you if the price drops after you buy?
Do not count on an automatic price adjustment. A December 1, 2025 TechRadar report says Amazon U.S. confirmed that it does not automatically refund the difference when an item’s price falls after an order. That is a reported U.S. position, not a guarantee about every country, product, promotion, or customer-service interaction.

If the item is still eligible for return, compare the order’s actual return options and costs with the current price and availability of a new order. Returning and buying again is not automatically permitted, free, or the better choice: check the item’s deadline and condition requirements, the return method and any fees, and the new order price before deciding.

A deal-day purchase follows the item’s applicable return terms; the sale itself does not establish a special return window. Amazon says most eligible Amazon.com items may be returned for a refund or replacement within 30 days of delivery, subject to eligibility and condition requirements. Examples of different return windows
Amazon’s policy gives examples including seven days for certain accidentally purchased digital content and 15 days for certain new Apple-brand and Boost Infinite products. It also describes longer windows for selected Amazon Renewed, baby, mattress, birthday, wedding, and baby-registry purchases. These are examples with qualifications, not assurances that every item in those categories qualifies.
Items that may not be returnable
Amazon lists perishables, products presenting certain health or safety risks, customized or redeemable products, Amazon Pharmacy products, pet medications, certain digital products, automobiles, and final-sale items among categories that may not be returnable. If a non-returnable item arrives damaged, defective, or materially different from what you ordered, Amazon directs customers to contact Customer Service.

How to start an Amazon return
- Open Your Orders and select the item you want to return.
- Choose the return reason and review the refund or replacement options shown for that order.
- Select an available return method and follow the order’s instructions for drop-off or collection.
Amazon says the available options vary by seller, item, and reason. The order-specific choices are more useful than assuming that another item’s return process will apply. Amazon’s instructions are at Return Items You Ordered.
Could a return cost you money?
Amazon says most returns have at least one free shipping option. A fee may apply if you choose a non-free method, the item is heavy or bulky, or your return rate is unusually high. The policy also describes potential late fees if an item is not dropped off or collected by its return-by date, and possible damage fees for items returned damaged, missing parts, with tags removed, or showing obvious use not caused by Amazon or seller error. These are conditional possibilities, not charges that apply to every return.

How long does an Amazon return and refund take?
Return processing and access to the refund are separate. Amazon says receiving and processing a return may take up to 30 days. After Amazon issues the refund, the payment provider may need additional time to make the money available. Amazon’s refund estimates include 2–3 hours for an Amazon gift card balance, 3–5 business days for a credit card, and up to 10 business days for a debit card or checking account; other methods vary. An individual refund can take longer.

Check the item’s price history before buying, rather than judging the offer from its displayed discount alone. Amazon describes a price-history feature that can help shoppers compare a current offer with the product’s recent prices; it does not establish that any tracker captures every price or that a past low predicts what the price will do next. Amazon says its deals display a verified reference price and corresponding savings, and that it works to offer deals at the lowest price in at least the preceding 30 days. It also says major deal events often feature prices among the lowest of the year.
