Treat those labels as starting points, not a complete measure of performance: Bandai Namco’s official pages describe aircraft and their intended strengths in prose, but the sources reviewed do not define numerical stat bars, their scales, or a full aircraft-by-aircraft stat table. To choose a plane, match its stated role and weapons to the mission briefing, then customize it for the sortie.
What the four aircraft roles mean
The role labels summarize the kinds of tasks an aircraft is presented as suited to. They do not, by themselves, tell you which aircraft is strongest or guarantee a numerical advantage. The official roster’s descriptions give useful examples of how the categories differ.

- Fighter: Emphasizes air combat. The F-15C Eagle is described as an air-superiority aircraft with speed, maneuverability, and endurance; the F-22A is described as a stealth fighter with strong air-combat capability.
- Attacker: Oriented toward ground attack. The Su-34 Fullback is described as a heavily armed and armored fighter-bomber, while retaining air-to-air armament for self-defense.
- Multirole: Can suit more than one mission profile. The F-35C is explicitly described for both air-to-air and ground-attack missions. The Rafale M is described as supporting air superiority, interdiction, reconnaissance, and air support.
- Electronic Warfare: The EA-18G Growler is listed in this category. Bandai Namco describes it as an electronic-warfare attacker with attack capability and air-to-air missiles for self-defense.
These are examples from the official roster, not an exhaustive list or a tested ranking. See Bandai Namco’s aircraft descriptions for the listed aircraft and their official category labels.

What the aircraft stats do—and do not—tell you
The official aircraft page provides role labels and written descriptions, but the sources reviewed do not explain a numerical stat display: they do not establish what any stat bar measures, its units or scale, or comparable values for every aircraft. That means it would be misleading to assign a meaning to an in-game bar or publish a definitive “best stats” ranking based on those descriptions alone.

For a grounded comparison, use the distinctions the official descriptions actually state: intended role, air-to-air versus ground-attack flexibility, carrier-based status when identified, and named traits such as speed, maneuverability, endurance, stealth, armor, or self-defense weapons. Those are descriptive clues, not a numeric scoring system. If you are comparing displayed stats in your own game, treat your observations as specific to the version and platform you checked rather than as official definitions.
Examples that show how roles overlap
| Aircraft | Official role | What the official description says |
|---|---|---|
| F-15C Eagle | Fighter | Air-superiority strengths include speed, maneuverability, and endurance. |
| Su-34 Fullback | Attacker | A fighter-bomber described as heavily armed and armored, with air-to-air self-defense armament. |
| F-35C Lightning II | Multirole | Carrier-based and stealth-capable; can be configured for air-to-air and ground-attack mission profiles. |
| Rafale M | Multirole | Carrier aircraft described for air superiority, interdiction, reconnaissance, and air support. |
| EA-18G Growler | Electronic Warfare | An electronic-warfare attacker with attack capability and air-to-air missiles for self-defense. |
The descriptions show why role labels are useful but incomplete: aircraft within a category may have different stated traits, and a plane’s self-defense weapons or mission flexibility may matter alongside its primary role.

How to choose an aircraft for a sortie
- Read the mission briefing. Identify the objective and whether the targets call for air combat, ground attack, or a mix. Bandai Namco says briefings provide strategic insight and recommends adapting aircraft and tactics to the combat scenario.
- Match the role and description to the task. Start with the official category, then check the aircraft’s stated capabilities and your preferred playstyle. Do not assume a role label guarantees a particular numerical-stat advantage.
- Configure the aircraft for the mission. The official walkthrough identifies upgrade parts and special weapons as customization options; choose a setup suited to the sortie rather than treating the base role as the whole plan.
- Plan how to use your wingman. Attack and cover orders can be issued in real time, so include those commands in your tactical choices.
Bandai Namco’s gameplay and customization walkthrough covers briefings, aircraft selection, customization, and wingman commands.
Campaign and online aircraft context
The official FAQ says the online aircraft roster matches the campaign roster, but aircraft in online mode are acquired through rewards earned online. That progression detail matters if you are choosing a multiplayer aircraft you do not yet have; it does not change what the four role labels mean. See the official Ace Combat 8 page for the FAQ.
