A browser-based Markdown previewer can combine three distinct jobs: turn Markdown into formatted content, render TeX math and Mermaid diagrams, and offer a PDF export. The title establishes those features, but not the parser, security settings, storage model, export method, or how well PDFs preserve page layout, math, and diagrams. Those implementation details matter as much as the feature list.
What each part of the previewer does
Markdown is the document source; a parser converts it into HTML for display. The title does not identify the parser or Markdown dialect. As one documented JavaScript example, markdown-it can render Markdown in a browser, but that does not establish that this project uses it. markdown-it’s options reference describes its configuration.

Math and diagrams need specialized rendering. KaTeX renders TeX expressions into browser DOM elements, while Mermaid converts text-based diagram definitions into SVG. A plausible implementation processes parsed Markdown and then handles math and diagram blocks before displaying the result; that is a common integration pattern, not a confirmed description of this project’s internal architecture.

KaTeX for mathematical notation
KaTeX offers browser APIs for rendering TeX. Its browser guide describes CDN use and self-hosting, and its API documents options such as throwOnError: false, which can show invalid TeX as source text rather than throwing an error. The project’s chosen setup and error behavior are not established. KaTeX browser documentation and the KaTeX API reference explain those options.

If KaTeX is self-hosted, its stylesheet refers to font files by relative paths, so those assets need to remain available in the expected layout. The browser guide’s CDN example uses KaTeX 0.19.0; check the documentation for the current version when selecting a release.
Mermaid for text-defined diagrams
Mermaid turns Markdown-inspired definitions into diagrams, charts, and visualizations, and its browser workflow can render SVG. The version matters for runtime compatibility: Mermaid v12.0.0 and later targets ES2024. Its usage documentation names Safari 17.4 or later as a target; it also says Mermaid lints for Chromium 121 and Firefox 123 without committing to support those older versions. Check the current Mermaid usage documentation against the browsers your users need.

What to check before rendering untrusted Markdown
A previewer that accepts user-supplied Markdown should treat the entire rendering pipeline as a security boundary. A safe math renderer does not automatically make the parser, plugins, diagram processing, DOM insertion, or loaded resources safe.

- Decide how to handle raw HTML. markdown-it’s safety guidance recommends leaving raw HTML disabled and extending functionality with plugins, or enabling HTML only when output is passed through an external sanitizer. Its options reference lists
htmlas disabled by default. That is a default for markdown-it, not evidence about this project’s configuration. See the markdown-it safety guidance and options reference. - Review links and plugins. markdown-it documents blocking dangerous URL schemes by default and cautions plugin authors against generating arbitrary user-controlled element IDs and names. Review the actual parser and every plugin rather than assuming defaults cover custom behavior.
- Configure math rendering for untrusted input. KaTeX says its generated HTML is designed to be safe from script or code injection, while also recommending sanitization as a general precaution. Its security guidance describes controls including
maxSize,maxExpand, andtrust. These settings address KaTeX behavior, not the whole application. See KaTeX security guidance. - Choose a failure mode. KaTeX’s
throwOnError: falseoption can display malformed TeX as source instead of throwing an error. Whether this previewer uses it, or how it handles malformed Mermaid definitions, is not established.
What the PDF feature does—and what remains project-specific
The feature description says the previewer exports PDFs, but it does not identify the export mechanism. It is therefore not possible to establish whether the app uses browser printing, a PDF library, or a server-side renderer, or to claim particular page sizes, pagination, embedded fonts, or fidelity for KaTeX and Mermaid output.

To assess the export in practice, inspect the project’s implementation and test a document that includes long code blocks, tables, page-length text, math, diagrams, and images. Also check whether the exported file retains the intended fonts and whether content breaks awkwardly across pages. Those results depend on the project’s export path and cannot be inferred from the presence of a PDF button.

- Whether KaTeX and Mermaid assets are loaded from a CDN or hosted with the app.
- Which browser versions the complete application supports, beyond individual library targets.
- How PDF export works and whether math, diagrams, fonts, and page breaks are preserved.
- Whether documents are saved locally, sent to a server, or discarded when the page closes.
