A 7,000mAh battery has 40% more nominal capacity than a 5,000mAh battery, but that does not mean a phone will last 40% longer in everyday use. Actual runtime depends on the phone’s display, processor, software, network conditions and what you do with it. To judge the difference, compare test results for the specific phones under similar conditions—not just their mAh ratings.
Does a 7,000mAh battery mean 40% more battery life?
It means 40% more capacity on the stated mAh figures: 7,000 is 2,000 more than 5,000. Capacity describes the battery’s nominal charge; it is not a direct measure of hours of screen time or days between charges.

A larger-capacity battery can offer longer endurance when the phones and their usage are otherwise comparable. But phones differ in power consumption, so the capacity difference alone cannot predict the runtime difference. A screen’s brightness and refresh rate, processor workload, software, signal strength, temperature and background activity all affect how quickly a phone uses its charge.

There is no reliable universal percentage. The available tests do not provide a matched independent-lab comparison of a 7,000mAh phone and a 5,000mAh phone, so they cannot establish how much longer the larger battery lasts in everyday use.

Results among phones with large batteries illustrate why the mAh figure is not enough. In 2025, 91mobiles reported these PCMark battery-test results for four phones with batteries of 7,000mAh or larger. The test measured runtime from 100% down to 20% under the publication’s stated conditions:

Why workload changes the comparison
Browsing, video playback and gaming draw power in different ways. A lab result for one activity does not tell you how long a phone will last through a day that mixes messaging, navigation, photos, calls and standby time.

PhoneArena describes separate scripted tests for web browsing, video streaming and 3D gaming. Its methodology says: “Our first test, Browsing, runs a script that cycles through web pages simulating a real browsing session.” The tests use 200-nit fixed brightness, Wi-Fi, new devices and the latest firmware available at the time; PhoneArena cautions that signal strength, temperature and battery aging can change real results. In 91mobiles’ 30-minute gaming comparison, the tested phones lost between 4% and 5.3% on average. The publication says the phones used identical graphics, frame-rate, brightness and volume settings for that segment. It is a short controlled gaming result, not a basis for projecting a full day of mixed use.
Will a 7,000mAh phone last two days?
It might for some users and patterns of use, but the capacity rating cannot guarantee two days. Light use, good reception and modest display settings can stretch a charge; long gaming sessions, navigation, camera use, weak signal or a bright high-refresh display can drain it faster.

Manufacturer usage claims need separate treatment from independent tests. Xiaomi’s UK POCO M7 page lists a 7,000mAh typical battery and advertises up to 28 hours of video playback, attributing usage figures to POCO Internal Labs and noting actual results may vary. That is a manufacturer claim for one model, not a head-to-head result against a 5,000mAh phone. Xiaomi UK’s POCO M7 specifications and claims.
How to compare two phones you are considering
- Look for comparable endurance tests. Prefer results from the same tester using similar brightness, network settings, workloads and start/end charge levels. Keep browsing, video and gaming results separate rather than treating them as interchangeable.
- Check whether a figure is a test result or a brand claim. A manufacturer’s internal-lab estimate may be useful context, but it is not measured on the same basis as an independent publication’s test.
- Consider your own workload. If your day is dominated by navigation or gaming, a browsing test is a poor predictor. Your reception, display settings, apps and standby habits matter too.
- Compare charging separately from endurance. Capacity does not indicate how quickly a phone recharges. Check supported charging rates and measured time to charge for the actual models, while noting the test method and charger used.
- Check actual dimensions and weight. Do not infer that every 7,000mAh phone is heavier or thicker than every 5,000mAh phone; other components and design choices also affect size and weight.
For scale, PhoneArena’s listing for the 5,000mAh Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra reports 45W wired charging and a 1 hour 9 minute time to full under its test procedure. That is one model’s measured result, not a general benchmark for all 5,000mAh phones. Among the four large-battery phones in the 91mobiles comparison, reported weights ranged from 214g to 224g and thickness from about 8.17mm to 8.3mm; those figures likewise describe those sampled models, not every phone in the capacity class.
Does a 7,000mAh battery age better?
A higher starting capacity does not by itself establish how much usable capacity a battery will retain over time. OPPO says the Find X9 series retains over 80% of its original capacity after five years of typical use. This is OPPO’s claim, not an independent long-term comparison of 7,000mAh and 5,000mAh batteries. OPPO’s Find X9 series battery statement.
