Hosting.com vs Cloudflare: Which One Do You Need for Your Website?

Hosting.com is the origin-hosting option; Cloudflare’s listed plans focus on delivery, DNS, and application security. Here’s how to choose one—or use both.

Hosting.com and Cloudflare do different jobs. Hosting.com provides shared and managed WordPress hosting: a place to run your website. Cloudflare’s plans focus on services such as DNS, content delivery, DDoS protection, SSL, and a web application firewall (WAF). If you need a website origin, choose a host; if you need Cloudflare’s delivery or security features, you can use it alongside a host.

Hosting.com vs Cloudflare: the practical difference

A website needs an origin environment to store and run its files, database, and application. Hosting.com offers shared hosting and managed WordPress hosting for that role. Cloudflare’s reviewed application plans and CDN information describe a delivery and application-services layer, not a like-for-like shared hosting package.

That distinction answers the common question “Is Cloudflare a web host?”: the Cloudflare services covered here are not presented as a replacement for traditional origin hosting. Cloudflare describes its CDN as delivering content through its network and reducing requests to origin servers. That is a complementary function: a site can have a host and use Cloudflare in front of it.

What each service offers

Need Hosting.com Cloudflare
Run a website Shared hosting and managed WordPress hosting; the hosting page also describes supported languages and databases. The reviewed plans emphasize application services and CDN rather than origin hosting.
Delivery and caching Lists LiteSpeed caching. Its managed WordPress product is described as using Cloudflare Enterprise speed and edge caching. Describes delivery through its network, caching-related products, and reducing requests to an origin.
Security Lists malware protection, free SSL, backups, and a WAF among hosting features. Lists DDoS protection, SSL, and WAF features; the specific entitlements depend on plan tier.
Migration and help Advertises free website migration and 24/7/365 in-house support. The cited plans and CDN information do not establish a comparable hosting migration offer.

These are provider-listed features, not a matched test of equivalent configurations. Check the specific plan terms and which controls you would need to configure before deciding that overlapping features are interchangeable.

How the plans and prices compare

Cloudflare’s plans page, accessed October 7, 2026, listed Free at $0 per month; Pro at $20 per month with annual billing or $25 per month with monthly billing; Business at $200 per month with annual billing or $250 per month with monthly billing; and Contract at custom pricing billed annually. Its Business and Contract tiers are listed with a 100% uptime SLA. Prices and included features can change, so confirm the live plan page and billing terms before purchase.

Hosting.com’s hosting page offers monthly, yearly, and four-year term choices, advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 99.9% uptime SLA, but the numeric plan prices were not exposed in the captured page content. That means a reliable dollar-for-dollar comparison is not available here. Check the exact plan, country, initial term, introductory price, renewal price, and any add-ons before comparing total cost. An SLA is a service-level commitment, not a record of measured historical uptime.

Which one should you choose?

Choose Hosting.com if you need an origin host

Hosting.com is the relevant choice between these two when your immediate requirement is a place to run a shared website or WordPress installation. Its listed features include NVMe storage, LiteSpeed caching, unlimited databases, malware protection, free SSL, free migration, and backups. Confirm that the particular plan includes the resources and support you need, as well as the current price and renewal terms.

Consider Cloudflare if you need its network or application services

Cloudflare is relevant when you specifically want services such as CDN delivery, DNS, DDoS protection, SSL, or a WAF. Compare the exact tier’s entitlements with your needs; the presence of a feature name across plans does not establish that every tier provides the same level of protection or functionality.

Use both when you need hosting plus a delivery or security layer

You can use Cloudflare alongside an origin host, rather than treating it as the host itself. Hosting.com also describes Cloudflare Enterprise integration in its managed WordPress offering. If you add or configure a separate Cloudflare service, account for configuration and feature overlap; do not assume that enabling a CDN automatically improves every site or that two providers’ security features cover identical tasks.

Does Cloudflare make a site faster?

Cloudflare says its CDN operates across 335 locations worldwide and places about 95% of the internet-connected population within approximately 50 milliseconds of a location. Those are Cloudflare’s network-footprint and proximity descriptions, not a guarantee of page speed for a particular site. Actual results depend on factors such as the site, configuration, content, and visitors’ locations.

Cloudflare’s CDN page also quotes a Pacsun chief information security officer saying that one system was “27% faster overnight” after switching to Cloudflare. Treat this as a customer testimonial about that system, not as an independently validated result or a prediction for another website.

The official pages reviewed do not provide an apples-to-apples performance test of Hosting.com against Cloudflare. There is therefore no substantiated universal speed winner. If speed is the deciding factor, test your own site using equivalent configurations and measurements from the regions that matter to your audience.
