HostGator may suit US developers who want control of a VPS and are comfortable administering it, but the available US product information does not establish that Node.js is preinstalled. HostGator’s Node.js-specific preinstalled offer is for its Latin American service, not evidence of the same setup on US plans. For a US buyer, the practical question is whether a self-managed VPS—with root access, but without cPanel or 24/7 priority support—is the right environment for the application.
What HostGator offers US developers
HostGator’s US VPS is self-managed and includes root access. That gives a developer the ability to configure the server and install software, but it also means the customer is responsible for server-level administration. The current US product page says cPanel and 24/7 priority support are not included. HostGator’s VPS Hosting Guide describes VPS as supporting custom software and advanced configurations; it also outlines setup work such as provisioning and, where applicable, WHM/cPanel and private nameserver configuration.

HostGator describes VPS as “the freedom and control you need without the higher cost of a dedicated server.” That is the company’s positioning, not an independent assessment of value or performance.
Is Node.js preinstalled?
The Node.js-specific HostGator page identified for this review is on HostGator Colombia’s Spanish-language site. It advertises preinstalled Node.js on regional cloud servers in Latin America, along with root access, NVMe storage, and frameworks including Express, NestJS, Adonis, and Next.js: HostGator Colombia’s VPS offer. That regional offer does not establish that Node.js is preinstalled, supported, or configured in the same way on US VPS plans.

For US buyers, the evidence supports a narrower conclusion: root access makes custom runtime installation possible, but preinstallation on US VPS is not established. The reviewed US information also does not establish Node.js support on shared hosting.
Shared hosting or VPS?
HostGator’s comparison chart distinguishes the two options on root access: shared hosting does not provide it, while VPS does. Root access is the meaningful difference for a developer who needs to install or configure server software. HostGator says VPS supports custom software, but the sources reviewed do not confirm a Node.js runtime on US shared plans.
| Decision point | Shared hosting | HostGator US VPS |
|---|---|---|
| Root access | No, according to HostGator’s hosting comparison chart. | Yes, according to HostGator’s product information and comparison chart. |
| Custom software configuration | Not established by the cited comparison chart; it shows no root access. | HostGator says VPS supports custom software and advanced configurations. |
| Management expectations | Node.js runtime support on US shared plans is not established. | Self-managed; cPanel and 24/7 priority support are not included on the current US product page. |
| Workload guidance | Not evaluated here for Node.js. | HostGator advises against using VPS for resource-intensive accounts or heavy traffic. |
| Node.js preinstalled | Not established by the reviewed US sources. | Not established for US VPS; the Node.js-specific offer identified is for Latin America. |
HostGator says its Cloud, Reseller, and Optimized WordPress plans are no longer available to new signups. Older recommendations to choose one of those products should therefore be checked against current availability.
Workload and performance: what is—and is not—known
HostGator’s VPS guide cautions that VPS is not recommended for resource-intensive accounts or heavy-traffic sites. This is a qualitative vendor warning, not a measured capacity limit for Node.js applications. The reviewed official information supplies no independently verified Node.js benchmark, requests-per-second figure, or application-level uptime result. A particular traffic threshold or production performance guarantee cannot be inferred from it.
That makes VPS a more defensible fit for developers who value configuration access and can manage a server than for buyers seeking a hands-off Node.js service or a documented high-traffic capacity. Whether a specific application fits depends on its resource use; HostGator’s general warning does not quantify that fit.

The US product page lists selectable NVMe configurations. One listed configuration, NVMe 8, includes 4 vCPU cores, 8 GB DDR5 RAM, and 200 GB NVMe storage; these are vendor-published specifications, not a guarantee of application performance. Plan names and resources may change, so confirm the configuration shown for your region at checkout.
HostGator’s price chart lists regular prices by VPS plan and billing term, and says the selected term is paid upfront. The current product page says promotional pricing applies to the initial term and renews at the regular rate. For example, HostGator’s chart listed one-month regular prices of $79.99 for Snappy 2000, $131.95 for Snappy 4000, and $149.99 for Snappy 8000 when accessed in 2026. These are vendor-published prices, not a quote for every region or configuration; verify the current checkout total and renewal rate before buying. VAT may apply in relevant cases.

Quick Recap
Best Value
Who should choose HostGator VPS?
It may fit if
- You specifically need root access to install or configure software.
- You can handle server provisioning, runtime setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting yourself, or have someone who can.
- Your expected workload is consistent with HostGator’s warning against resource-intensive or heavy-traffic VPS use.
- You have confirmed the current plan, upfront term cost, renewal price, included support, and whether the required Node.js setup is available for your region.
Look for a different fit if
- You need a US plan that is explicitly documented as having Node.js preinstalled.
- You expect the provider to manage the Node.js environment or need cPanel or 24/7 priority support included.
- Your application is resource-intensive or expected to receive heavy traffic and you need documented capacity assurances.
