Host Department or InterServer? What Hosting Customers Should Choose

InterServer is the more actionable choice for new hosting buyers, while Host Department customers should verify their migration and domain status. Here are the current plan terms and what the notices do—and do not—establish.

For someone choosing a host now, InterServer is the more actionable choice: it publishes a current Standard hosting offer, and Host Department’s notices identify InterServer as the destination for hosting-account and domain transitions. That does not establish that InterServer is faster, more reliable, or better supported. No comparable independent uptime, speed, or support measurements are available here.

This comparison reflects information checked on October 7, 2026, including Host Department’s September 17, 2026 domain notice. It does not establish that Host Department has shut down or that every customer account has moved.

What changed between Host Department and InterServer?

Host Department has described a transition to its parent company, InterServer, in multiple customer notices. In a February 17, 2025 announcement it discussed moving hosting accounts; on December 21, 2025, it addressed Windows hosting accounts; and on September 17, 2026, it announced plans to move domains registered through Host Department.

The September 2026 notice says: “We are writing to inform you that, as the final part of our transition, we plan to move all domains registered through Host Department to our parent company, InterServer.” This is a stated plan, not confirmation that domains transfer automatically or that every transfer is complete. The notice describes customers unlocking a domain, obtaining its EPP authorization code, and initiating a transfer. Read Host Department’s customer announcements.

The notices support calling this an ongoing provider transition. They do not show that Host Department has ceased all operations, that every service has moved, or that a new standalone Host Department plan is currently available.

Which host is the practical choice for a new customer?

InterServer is the clearer option if you need to choose and purchase hosting now, because it publishes a current Standard web-hosting plan. The available information does not establish a current Host Department offer for new customers. That makes InterServer more actionable, but not a proven performance winner.

InterServer’s current Standard page lists the plan’s prices and features. These are provider-stated terms, not independent test results. See InterServer’s Standard web-hosting offer.

What does InterServer Standard cost?

The current plan page lists the following Standard web-hosting terms. Promotional prices and renewal totals can change, so confirm the selected term and full renewal price at checkout.

Billing term Listed initial price Listed renewal price
Monthly $2.50 for the first month $7 per month
Six months $15 $42
12 months $30 $84
24 months $60 $168

The listed features include unlimited storage, data transfer, email and FTP accounts; weekly backups; CloudLinux; SSD caching; DirectAdmin; SSL support; security scanning; and Cloudflare CDN. “Unlimited” is the provider’s plan wording, not a statement about independently tested capacity or performance. Check the plan terms for applicable limits and conditions.

What should existing Host Department customers do?

Check your actual service, billing, and account status rather than assuming that a migration has already happened. Host Department’s December 21, 2025 Windows-hosting announcement said affected accounts would be migrated to InterServer’s ASP.NET plan, quoted at $8 per month or $96 per year. It asked customers to respond by January 4, 2026, and said migration would be initiated if no response arrived. The announcement does not verify the outcome for any particular account.

For a Host Department-registered domain, the September 2026 notice describes a customer-initiated transfer process: unlock the domain, retrieve the EPP authorization code, and initiate the transfer. Its example gives a $15 transfer and renewal price and optional WHOIS privacy at $5 per year. Those are examples in the notice, not universal prices; the applicable amount can vary by domain extension. The notice also says domain-related fees would increase by $3.40 per year for each offered extension for customers who remain with Host Department. Check the relevant extension’s current price before acting.

  • Confirm which company currently manages your hosting and domain, and where invoices are being issued.
  • For Windows or ASP.NET hosting, verify the plan name, price, renewal date, and migration status with your account records.
  • Before transferring a domain, make sure you can access its registrar controls and email, and verify the destination registrar’s extension-specific transfer and renewal charges.
  • Keep a copy of current account details and any migration instructions so you can identify discrepancies in service or billing.

Is InterServer suitable for Windows or ASP.NET hosting?

The Standard plan is the general web-hosting offer, while Host Department’s Windows migration announcement specifically names InterServer’s ASP.NET plan. These are distinct requirements: do not assume a general shared-hosting plan will run a Windows- or ASP.NET-dependent site. Confirm the operating environment and application requirements with the plan description before ordering, and existing customers should match their migrated service to the plan specified in their notice.

Can you say which host has better uptime, speed, or support?

No. The available information does not provide comparable independent measurements of uptime, page speed, or support response for the two providers. An official InterServer package listing displays a 99.9% uptime guarantee, but that is a stated guarantee, not a measured uptime result; the accessible listing does not establish its publication date or the guarantee’s exclusions and remedy. Review the current service terms before relying on it. View InterServer’s package listing.

As a result, the evidence supports a practical availability and transition conclusion—not a claim that InterServer is technically superior. Anyone prioritizing measured reliability or support should seek comparable, independently documented evidence for the specific plans under consideration.
