Horrorria is a Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 horror and hardcore modpack built for Forge. The current listed release is version 3.8, dated September 5, 2026. The creator states that the pack needs at least 6 GB of RAM. To play with friends, install the same client release they use, then deploy the matching server archive, [ Horrorria ] -serveur-3.8.zip, on a Forge 1.20.1 server.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What Horrorria is
Horrorria is designed around psychological and survival horror rather than a conventional progression-focused mod collection. Its description highlights Herobrine, the Cave Dweller, Slenderman, darkness, stalking, footsteps, flickering torches and jump scares. CurseForge categorizes it for horror, hardcore, multiplayer, combat/PvP and exploration, so expect a more threatening experience than a standard adventure pack.

The listing reports 258,704 downloads. Those details identify the build you should match when installing both clients and servers; a different Minecraft version, loader or pack release can contain different mods and configuration files.
Requirements and preparation
Use this checklist before importing the pack:
- Minecraft: Java Edition 1.20.1.
- Mod loader: Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Memory: at least 6 GB allocated to the modded profile, matching the creator’s stated baseline. This is a requirement for the pack, not a guaranteed server capacity or player-count figure.
- Launcher: a launcher that can import or install CurseForge modpacks from a ZIP archive.
- Disk space: leave room for the pack, Forge libraries, logs, world data and backups. The project does not publish a fixed storage requirement.
- Backups: copy any existing worlds before changing pack versions or replacing configuration files.
Close other memory-heavy applications while testing the pack. Allocating 6 GB to Minecraft does not create physical RAM; your computer still needs enough memory for the operating system and background programs. If the launcher cannot reserve 6 GB, reduce other applications first or use a machine with more physical memory rather than repeatedly lowering the pack’s allocation.

Install the Horrorria client
- Install or open a compatible launcher. Use a launcher with a CurseForge modpack import or installation function. Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft Java Edition if the launcher requires it.
- Obtain the client archive. On the Horrorria project files page, select the current client file,
[ Horrorria ]-3.8.zip, under Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. Check the date and version before downloading; the files page can contain several releases. - Import the ZIP. In the launcher, choose its import, add-instance or install-from-file action and select the downloaded archive. Do not unzip the client archive into the vanilla
.minecraftdirectory unless the launcher specifically documents that workflow. - Confirm the generated profile. Open the instance settings and verify that the game version is Minecraft 1.20.1 and the mod loader is Forge. If the launcher creates a profile for another version, remove it and import the correct archive again.
- Set memory. In the instance’s Java or memory settings, allocate at least 6 GB. Launchers use different labels, such as maximum memory, RAM limit or JVM memory; set the maximum value to 6 GB or higher and leave enough physical RAM for the operating system.
- Launch once locally. Start the profile and wait for the title screen. This first run lets Forge create configuration folders and exposes missing-library or Java errors before you try to connect to a server. Quit normally after the menu appears.
- Join only after the server is ready. Add the server address supplied by the operator after confirming the exact Horrorria release. Do not assume that a 3.7 client can join a 3.8 server, even when both target Minecraft 1.20.1.
If the launcher reports that a mod is missing, first check that you imported the complete ZIP and did not mix files from another profile. Re-importing the official archive into a fresh instance is usually safer than copying individual mods by hand.
Match client and server files exactly
Version matching is the most important multiplayer rule. Use the client and server archives from the same release and keep Minecraft and Forge on the versions named by that release.

Both files are listed with the September 5, 2026 release date. Before every installation or upgrade, revisit the Horrorria project and files pages: a later release can change mods, configs or the required server files. Keep a copy of the old archive and world before upgrading so you can roll back if a world or mod interaction causes trouble.
Set up a self-hosted Horrorria server
Self-hosting gives you direct control over files, backups and updates, but you are responsible for the Java runtime, firewall and network access, machine resources and uptime. The project confirms a 6 GB RAM baseline for the modpack; it does not publish a guaranteed player count or a CPU specification. Treat the number of players your machine can support as something you must validate with your own world and settings.
Prepare the server machine
- Use a machine capable of running Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 with Forge and reserving at least 6 GB for the server process.
- Install a Java runtime compatible with the Forge 1.20.1 server installer. Use the Java version required by the Forge installer or the launcher-generated server files rather than guessing from a different Minecraft release.
- Create a dedicated, writable folder for the server. Keeping the server separate from a personal client instance makes backups and permissions easier.
- Decide where world backups and logs will live before inviting players.
Install the matching server pack
- Download
[ Horrorria ] -serveur-3.8.zipfrom the Horrorria files page. Confirm that its release number matches every player’s client archive. - Extract the server ZIP into the dedicated server folder. Preserve its directory structure; do not scatter the included files across an existing vanilla server.
- Install or run the Forge 1.20.1 server files required by the pack. If the archive includes a start script, use that script as supplied. If Forge creates a start script during installation, run the generated script instead of inventing a different JAR name.
- Start the server once. It will generate files and normally stop or refuse to continue until you accept Minecraft’s EULA.
- Open the generated
eula.txt, read the license, change the EULA setting to acceptance only if you agree, save the file, and start the server again. - Wait for the console to report that the server has finished loading before connecting. The first start can take longer while Forge and the modpack build caches.
- Keep the console window or service logs available during testing. Record the first complete error and its stack trace if startup fails; later messages are often consequences rather than the cause.
Set the server’s initial and maximum Java memory to values that leave room for the operating system. The pack’s 6 GB statement is the minimum baseline supplied by the creator, not a recommendation to consume every gigabyte on the host. Increase memory only when logs or observed performance justify it, and never compensate for a CPU, disk or network bottleneck by allocating unlimited RAM.
Make the server reachable
Players on the same local network may be able to connect through the host’s local address. Friends outside that network need a reachable address and a firewall rule for the port configured in the server’s properties. The operator must also configure the router or hosting network to forward that port to the machine running Forge, unless the host provides an equivalent managed networking feature.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Test in this order:
- Connect from the server machine or local network using the address appropriate to that network.
- Ask a player outside the network to test the public address only after the local test succeeds.
- If outside players cannot connect, check the server’s configured port, operating-system firewall, router forwarding and whether the server process is listening on the expected interface.
- Do not publish your public address broadly. Share it only with the people you intend to invite and keep the server software and operating system updated.
Use a managed hosted server instead
CurseForge’s official hosted-server documentation describes a workflow in which CurseForge Servers can turn a modpack with a matching server pack into a hosted multiplayer server in a few clicks. The documented sequence is:
- Choose the modpack.
- Choose a hosting plan.
- Select a region.
- Enter the server details.
- Complete payment.
The service is powered by Shockbyte and uses Tebex for billing. Availability, plan limits, regions and prices can change, so confirm that Horrorria is present in the current catalog and that the selected plan supplies at least the pack’s 6 GB baseline before paying. A plan’s advertised RAM does not by itself guarantee a particular player count; CPU allocation, storage speed, world activity and network quality also affect play.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
| Consideration | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | No separate hosting subscription, but you provide the machine, electricity and network connection. | Recurring plan charges; current price and availability must be checked at purchase. |
| Network work | You handle firewall rules, router forwarding and public reachability. | The provider normally supplies the public endpoint and handles much of the network layer. |
| File and backup control | Direct access to mods, configs, logs and backup files. | Control depends on the provider’s panel, storage and backup tools. |
| Resources | Limited by your hardware and connection; no official Horrorria player-count guarantee exists. | Limited by the plan’s CPU, RAM, storage and support terms; verify that the plan meets the 6 GB baseline. |
| Maintenance | You install Java and Forge, apply updates, monitor crashes and keep the machine online. | The provider keeps the service online and reduces network administration, but you still manage pack versions, world safety and mod-specific issues. |
Choose self-hosting when you are comfortable administering a Java server and want unrestricted file access. Choose managed hosting when avoiding port-forwarding and maintaining an always-on machine is worth a recurring fee. In either case, preserve a local copy of the world and the exact pack archive used to create it.

Backups, updates and safe version changes
Back up before changes
- Stop the server cleanly from its console so world data is flushed.
- Copy the complete world directory, server configuration files and the exact Horrorria server archive to storage separate from the live server.
- Label the backup with the date, Minecraft version, Forge version and Horrorria release.
- Keep at least one backup that predates the planned update and verify that the files can be opened or restored.
Upgrade deliberately
Read the newer release’s files and project notes first. Do not overwrite a working instance while players are online. Install the new pack in a separate directory, test a copy of the world, and have every player import the matching client archive before switching the public server. If the test fails, restore the previous directory and backup rather than mixing old and new mod files.
Troubleshooting common failures
The launcher says the profile is incompatible
Check all three version fields: Horrorria release, Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge. A client imported from a different ZIP can look similar while containing different mods. Remove the incorrect instance and import the release named by the server operator.
The game crashes while loading
- Confirm that at least 6 GB is allocated and that the computer has enough physical RAM left for the operating system.
- Launch the unmodified imported profile once; do not add shaders, extra mods or manual replacements until the base pack works.
- Read the crash report and latest log for the first error, including the mod ID and Forge version. Keep those details when asking for support.
The server stops during startup
- Verify that the server ZIP is the matching
-serveur-3.8.ziparchive, not the client archive. - Confirm the Forge server installation and Java runtime are the versions expected by Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Check whether the EULA file still requires acceptance.
- Make sure the server has access to at least the pack’s 6 GB baseline and that the disk is not full.
- Capture the first complete error from the console before changing files.
Players receive a mod-list or registry mismatch
This normally indicates that at least one participant has a different pack release, Minecraft version, Forge version or modified configuration. Have everyone compare the archive name and release date with the server, then reinstall the matching client profile rather than copying individual JARs.
Best Value
The server works locally but not for friends
Test the configured server port, operating-system firewall and router forwarding. Confirm that the server is bound to an address reachable from the network and that the public address has not changed. A managed host should be checked through its control panel and support status instead of changing local router settings.
Performance deteriorates after adding players
The project does not publish a guaranteed player count or CPU requirement. Monitor memory use, CPU load, disk activity and server tick behavior while reproducing the issue. Remove unneeded client-only additions, keep the server on a fast local disk, and increase resources only after identifying which resource is exhausted. More RAM cannot repair a saturated CPU or unstable network.

Where to get support
The project page directs users to contact the creator through Discord or comments and to report bugs there. Include the exact Horrorria release, Minecraft and Forge versions, launcher, operating system, whether the issue affects the client or server, and a concise excerpt from the relevant log. For multiplayer failures, state whether every player and the server use the same archive release. Re-check the files page before downgrading or upgrading, because multiple versioned releases are available.
Recommended installation path
For a first session, import the 3.8 client ZIP, confirm Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge, allocate at least 6 GB, and complete one local launch. For friends, deploy the 3.8 server archive on a Forge 1.20.1 installation, accept the EULA, test locally, then configure external access or a hosted plan. Keep the archive and world backup together so every future change can be reproduced or reversed.
