HMD is not confirmed to be leaving any particular country. A 15 October 2026 report from GSMArena, echoed by Telset the same day, describes an unconfirmed plan to withdraw from “select markets,” reduce production for its global device portfolio and concentrate more on regional, enterprise and industrial business. Neither report identifies the markets, and HMD has not announced a withdrawal.
What the October 15 reports claim
GSMArena attributed the information to a usually reliable source familiar with HMD, but described it as a rumor rather than a company announcement. The alleged plan has several parts:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- HMD would withdraw from unspecified “select markets.”
- Production for its global device portfolio would be scaled down.
- The company’s core focus would move toward regional markets and the enterprise and industrial sectors.
- HMD might make no further global product launches during 2026.
Telset independently repeated those elements on 15 October and also stressed that HMD had not confirmed them. “Select markets” therefore cannot be treated as a list of countries, and the report does not establish that HMD is shutting down its phone business.

What is known—and what is not
| Item | Current evidence | What a reader can conclude |
|---|---|---|
| Countries affected | Neither October report names any. | There is no reliable country-by-country withdrawal list. |
| HMD’s corporate decision | The reports are attributed to a source; HMD has not confirmed the plan. | Treat the story as unverified until HMD publishes a statement. |
| Global launches in 2026 | The rumor says there may be no further global launches. | This is a possibility in the report, not a confirmed cancellation schedule. |
| Regional products | HMD’s newsroom lists the HMD Terra M for availability in select European countries during 2026. | Country-specific launches are still occurring, even if a narrower global strategy is being considered. |
Why disappearing country websites caused confusion
On 15 March 2026, Nokiamob reported that localized HMD pages for numerous countries had disappeared or redirected to HMD’s international site. Examples included Morocco, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland, Brazil, the United States, Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon and Oman.

A redirected web page can reflect a change in marketing, ecommerce management or regional support structure. It does not by itself prove that HMD stopped selling phones, ended warranty service or withdrew from each listed country. Buyers should check local retailers and support channels rather than infer a market exit from the website change alone.
Nokia-branded phones have a separate licensing timeline
HMD’s position is also affected by its licensing arrangements with Nokia. Nokia’s 2025 annual report says the broader licence for Nokia-branded phones and tablets expired by March 2026. The same report says Nokia-branded feature-phone rights were extended through March 2029, but only for limited countries.

- 50 MP AI triple camera - AI camera technologies, including Capture Fusion for more detailed ultra wide shots and Dark Vision and AI Portraits, for capturing more shareable content – and even better selfies – day or night.
- Premium performance, sustainably crafted - Featuring a durable, environmentally considered design utilizing 60% recycled plastic and next level features on a Snapdragon 695 5G mobile processor
- Years of hardware and software protection - 3 of OS upgrades and monthly security updates.
- This Android 14 5G smartphone lets you choose or change carriers and data plans; compatible with GSM carriers including T-Mobile (AT&T and AT&T subsidiaries are not supported). Please confirm device compatibility with your carrier before purchasing.
Those are different rights with different geographic scope. The end of the broader smartphone-and-tablet licence does not mean every Nokia feature phone disappears immediately, and the feature-phone extension does not guarantee availability worldwide. Model, country and channel must be checked individually.
What this means for current owners
Warranty and repairs
No source cited here announces a blanket end to HMD warranties or repairs. If HMD changes its distribution footprint, service arrangements could vary by country, so keep your purchase receipt, confirm the authorized service route shown for your market and ask the seller who handles warranty claims before sending a device for repair.

Software and security updates
The rumor does not specify an update policy or an end date for existing devices. A possible reduction in production or global launches is not the same as a published cancellation of software support. Check the support page for your exact model and region, and treat any promise made by an unofficial importer as separate from HMD’s local commitment.
Buying a phone now
A phone already sold through official local channels is generally easier to return, repair and update than an imported unit. Before buying, verify:

Should you buy a Nokia feature phone?
Nokia feature-phone rights continue to March 2029 in limited countries according to Nokia’s 2025 annual report, but that does not establish global availability. A feature phone may suit someone seeking calling, texting, long battery life and a simpler interface; it will not provide the app ecosystem or smartphone capabilities of an Android handset. Confirm that the specific model is authorized for your country, supports your carrier’s network and has a local warranty before paying.

What to watch next
The most meaningful confirmation would be an HMD statement identifying affected countries, distribution changes, product plans or support obligations. Until then, the October 15 reports support only a cautious conclusion: HMD may be considering a more regional and enterprise-oriented strategy, but no country has been confirmed as an exit market and no company-wide shutdown has been announced.
