Hisense U7SG Review: Which Size Should You Buy?

The Hisense U7SG suits bright rooms and gaming, but black levels, screen finish, and size-specific brightness claims matter when choosing a model.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Hisense U7SG is a capable mid-range 4K Mini-LED TV that makes the most sense in a bright room or for gaming. Its high brightness, matte coating on models through 85 inches, and gaming features are appealing; its weaker dark-scene contrast is the key trade-off for movie fans who watch in a dark room. Size matters, too: the 55-inch model has fewer dimming zones and a lower advertised brightness figure, while the 100-inch model switches to a glossy screen.

What is the Hisense U7SG?

The U7SG is Hisense’s 2026 U7 Series ULED MiniLED 4K television with Google TV, sold in the United States in 55-, 65-, 75-, 85-, and 100-inch sizes. Hisense’s product pages identify the 55U7SG, 65U7SG, and 100U7SG directly; the 55- and 65-inch pages provide selectors for other sizes. See Hisense’s 55-inch listing and 65-inch listing. RTINGS also lists all five US sizes in its U7SG review.

Check the full model suffix before buying. The U7SG is the Google TV version; Hisense also sells a U7SF variant with Fire TV, and RTINGS notes that its U7SG findings do not apply to the U7SF.

How do the five sizes differ?

RTINGS bought and tested a 65-inch U7SG, and says most of its results also apply to the other listed sizes. The table below reflects RTINGS’ 2026 size comparison; advertised peak brightness is a manufacturer figure reported by RTINGS, not a brightness measurement for each size.

US model Local dimming zones Advertised peak brightness Screen coating
55U7SG 512 Up to 2,000 nits Matte
65U7SG 960 Up to 3,000 nits Matte
75U7SG 1,100 Up to 3,000 nits Matte
85U7SG 1,536 Up to 3,000 nits Matte
100U7SG 2,304 Up to 3,000 nits Glossy

RTINGS says the 55-inch model’s larger approximate area per dimming zone is likely to make local dimming perform somewhat worse than on larger versions. That is a size-based assessment, not a separate hands-on review of every model. The 100-inch model’s glossy coating handles reflections less well than the matte finish on the smaller versions, making its placement in a bright room more consequential.

There is a specification discrepancy worth noting: Hisense’s 55-inch product listing advertises up to 3,000 nits, while RTINGS’ size comparison reports up to 2,000 nits for the 55U7SG and up to 3,000 for the larger sizes. For a brightness claim, check the size-specific Hisense listing and its specification sheet; do not assume every size has the same advertised maximum.

How good is it in a bright room?

RTINGS describes the U7SG as one of the stronger mid-range options for bright rooms, pointing to high peak brightness, color, and the matte anti-reflective coating on the 55-, 65-, 75-, and 85-inch models. This combination can help keep a picture usable when daylight or room lighting is present. It does not make the set immune to reflections, and RTINGS specifically finds the 100-inch glossy version less suited to a bright room.

Tom’s Guide’s hands-on assessment of a 65-inch sample also praises its color. These reviews support a bright-room case, but neither establishes identical performance for every size, lighting arrangement, or viewing position.

What should dark-room viewers know?

Dark-scene contrast is the clearest reservation. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer, after spending a day with a 65-inch unit, found blacks and shadows muddy and contrast weaker than desired. RTINGS’ overall assessment is more positive, but the two accounts can be reconciled by the viewing conditions: high brightness and glare control are valuable in a lit room, while weak blacks and shadow detail are harder to ignore in a dark room with films or other shadow-heavy content.

If dark-room movie performance is your priority, judge the U7SG specifically by its black levels and shadow detail rather than treating “Mini-LED” or a high advertised brightness figure as a guarantee of deep blacks. The review evidence here is based on a 65-inch sample, not independent testing of all five sizes.

Is it a good gaming TV?

Gaming is one of the U7SG’s strengths. Hisense advertises a Game Bar and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, among other features. For the 65-inch model it reviewed, Tom’s Guide lists a 165Hz native refresh rate and four HDMI 2.1 inputs. The reviewer reports support up to 4K/120Hz for consoles such as PS5 and Xbox Series X, and up to 4K/165Hz for capable gaming PCs. These are review-listed specifications for the 65-inch set; check the specification sheet for the exact size and source you plan to use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A 165Hz panel does not mean every console game runs at 165 frames per second. The source device, game, resolution, and settings determine the signal and frame rate. The practical appeal is the combination of high refresh capability and gaming-oriented features for compatible hardware.

How are the sound and smart-TV features?

Tom’s Guide praises the 65-inch model’s audio. It lists a 2.1.2-channel, 50W audio system, while Hisense describes the sound as tuned by Devialet. Those details are specific to the cited review and product marketing; they do not establish that the built-in speakers will satisfy every room or listener. The U7SG uses Google TV, so buyers should distinguish it from the Fire TV-based U7SF when checking retailer listings.

Which U7SG size should you buy?

  • 55 inches: Consider it if it best fits your room and budget, but note its 512 zones and RTINGS’ lower advertised-brightness figure of up to 2,000 nits. RTINGS also expects its larger area per zone to make local dimming somewhat weaker.
  • 65 inches: The most directly documented option in the cited reviews: RTINGS tested this size, and Tom’s Guide’s hands-on review also covered a 65-inch unit. It is a sensible reference point for weighing the overall strengths and dark-scene caveat.
  • 75 or 85 inches: These retain the matte coating and are listed with up to 3,000 nits advertised peak brightness by RTINGS. Choose between them primarily by viewing distance, available space, and current price; the cited review evidence does not establish a universal performance winner between the two.
  • 100 inches: The largest listed size has 2,304 dimming zones and up to 3,000 nits advertised brightness, but uses a glossy coating. Plan its placement carefully if the room has windows or strong lights.

As a general decision, favor one of the matte models if reflections are a concern; consider the 100-inch version when the scale matters more and you can manage reflections. If your viewing is mostly dark-room cinema, weigh the reported black-level limitation more heavily than screen size or headline brightness.

What did the U7SG cost in the cited review?

Tom’s Guide’s US article dated August 24, 2026 listed the following MSRPs and sale prices. These are dated figures, not current quotes or a promise that a sale or stock remains available.

Before choosing on price, compare the same screen size, exact U7SG suffix, and current retailer offer. Tom’s Guide also names the TCL QM7K, TCL QM7L, and Samsung QN70F as alternatives around the 65-inch U7SG’s market position. Its reported relative pricing is from the time of that article; model year, size, and current prices should be checked before treating any of them as a direct value comparison.

Verdict: who should buy the Hisense U7SG?

The U7SG is a strong candidate if you want a bright-room 4K Mini-LED set with substantial gaming capability and are comfortable with its dark-scene contrast trade-off. For most rooms where glare matters, the matte 55- through 85-inch versions are the straightforward choices. The 100-inch version makes sense when a very large screen is the priority and its glossy surface suits the room. Dark-room movie viewers should be more cautious, and buyers should base the final decision on current pricing for the exact size rather than the dated sale figures above.
