To hide App and browser control, set Hide the App and browser control area in the Windows Security app to Yes in an Intune Antivirus policy. Microsoft maps this setting to the DisableAppBrowserUI CSP. It hides the section and suppresses its related notifications; it is a visibility control, not a command to turn off SmartScreen or other protections.
Configure the setting in Intune
-
In the Intune admin center, go to Endpoint security > Antivirus, then create or edit an Antivirus policy.

What hiding the section does—and does not do
App and browser control is a Windows Security interface area. Microsoft says it contains information and settings for Windows Defender SmartScreen; on Windows 10 version 1709 and later, it also includes Exploit protection options. Hiding the area removes user access to that section in the app and suppresses related notifications. The documented setting does not say that it disables the underlying protections.

For details on what the area contains, see Microsoft’s App & browser control in Windows Security documentation, last updated April 15, 2025.
Check platform availability and policy conflicts
Use a profile available in your tenant
Microsoft replaced the original Intune Windows 10 and later platform with the Windows platform beginning April 5, 2022. New instances of the original platform profile can no longer be created, although existing profiles may still be edited and used. Use the current platform and profile options presented in your tenant, and confirm the setting is available there. See the policy reference for the setting and its supported configuration details.

Look for competing values
Endpoint security policies, device configuration policies, and security baselines can conflict if they configure the same setting differently. Microsoft warns that affected settings may not apply properly. If the setting does not take effect on a particular device, review its assignments and policy reporting, then use Microsoft’s guidance for managing endpoint security policies to investigate conflicts.
Intune and Group Policy are separate management routes
For devices managed through Group Policy, the corresponding option is Hide the App and browser protection area. In Group Policy Editor, navigate to Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Security > App and browser protection, then enable it. Microsoft lists Windows 10 version 1709 or later as the prerequisite for the relevant ADMX/ADML settings. This GPO hides the section on the Windows Security home page and removes its navigation icon.

Intune Antivirus policy is the cloud-managed route; Group Policy is the GPO route. Choose according to how your organization manages the target devices, and check for other policies setting the same control. Microsoft’s documentation does not establish one method as universally preferable. The Group Policy behavior and prerequisite are described in Microsoft’s App & browser control documentation.

The Windows Security notification-area icon has its own setting; hiding App and browser control does not hide that icon. Microsoft notes that changing the icon setting requires signing out and back in or rebooting before the change takes effect. See the Intune Endpoint Protection settings reference for the separate icon control.
