Neither Hetzner nor HostPapa can be named the overall winner from the available like-for-like evidence. The key difference is what you are buying: Hetzner’s documented offering here is managed shared hosting, alongside separate cloud-server products, while HostPapa offers shared hosting and other hosting categories. Compare the exact hosting type first, then check the full renewal cost, resources, backups, migration terms, support and availability promise for the plan you would actually use.
Start by matching the hosting type
A shared hosting plan and a cloud server are not equivalent choices. Shared hosting generally bundles more of the hosting environment for you; a cloud server can require more technical setup and ongoing administration. Comparing a managed hosting plan against a self-managed server on price or performance alone would not tell you which is better for your site.

| Provider and product covered here | What the source establishes | What to verify for your choice |
|---|---|---|
| Hetzner managed web hosting | Managed packages named S, M, L and XL; users manage domains, email accounts, backups and other settings through konsoleH. The documented stack includes Apache and a Debian-based operating system. | Current plan prices, storage and other resource limits, and whether the package has the specific features your site needs. |
| Hetzner Cloud Servers | A separate product category. Hetzner’s 99.9% monthly availability SLA cited here applies to Cloud Servers. | Whether you can administer a server yourself or have someone responsible for setup, updates, security and troubleshooting. |
| HostPapa shared hosting | Shared web hosting plans named Essentials, Growth, Premium and Elite. HostPapa also lists WordPress, VPS and dedicated hosting categories. | Which plan and hosting category suits your workload, and the exact resources and service terms for that plan. |
For a small business site or a personal website, make a shortlist of equivalent managed or shared plans before comparing bills. If you need server-level control, compare cloud or VPS products separately and include the work required to operate them.

What HostPapa’s published renewal rates cost
HostPapa’s pricing page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists renewal rates in US dollars, excluding applicable taxes. Longer billing terms reduce the listed monthly equivalent but require a larger advance payment. The table shows both, so the commitment is visible.
#1 Best Overall
| Web hosting plan | One month | One-year term | Two-year term | Three-year term |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $12.99 | $10.99/month; $131.88 billed | $9.99/month; $239.76 billed | $8.99/month; $323.64 billed |
| Growth | $17.99 | $15.99/month; $191.88 billed | $14.99/month; $359.76 billed | $13.99/month; $503.64 billed |
| Premium | $24.99 | $21.99/month; $263.88 billed | $20.99/month; $503.76 billed | $19.99/month; $719.64 billed |
| Elite | $30.99 | $29.99/month; $359.88 billed | $28.99/month; $695.76 billed | $27.99/month; $1,007.64 billed |
These are provider-listed renewal prices, not a universal checkout total; applicable taxes are extra. Check the live pricing page before ordering because prices and plan names may change. Hetzner’s retrieved overview does not provide a complete current S–XL price-and-resource table. It does flag possible additional charges for external domains and storage beyond a plan allowance, so the evidence does not support a reliable total-cost verdict between the providers.
Backups, migration and contract terms
Hetzner managed web hosting
Hetzner says its managed web-hosting accounts are backed up nightly, with backups retained for 14 days in a separate Hetzner data center. Its documentation says individual files or folders can be restored. The same overview lists no fixed contract term and immediate notice. Confirm the restoration process and any conditions that apply to your account before relying on backups as your only recovery plan.
HostPapa
HostPapa advertises free website migration and domain transfer, plus a 30-day money-back guarantee subject to terms. Treat these as provider offers, not automatic entitlements: check eligibility, what migration covers, and the refund conditions for the plan and purchase you are considering.

HostPapa advertises 24/7 support and 99.9% uptime for hosting on its comparison page. These are HostPapa’s stated service features; the available material does not establish an independent head-to-head uptime result or clarify every plan-level condition. Confirm the support channels and applicable terms for the exact plan.
Rank #3
Do not apply Hetzner’s 99.9% monthly availability commitment for Cloud Servers to its managed web-hosting packages. The cited service agreement is specifically for Cloud Servers and describes how availability is measured and compensation calculated. The available documentation does not establish an equivalent managed-web-hosting SLA.
Does one host have faster hosting?
The available sources do not establish a performance winner. Hetzner describes Apache and a Debian-based operating system for managed hosting; HostPapa highlights NVMe storage and cPanel. Those features are not an equivalent benchmark: they do not show how the providers perform with the same site, configuration, traffic and measurement conditions.
Rank #4
If speed is decisive, look for measurements relevant to your audience’s region and workload, or test your own site after migration. Compare page response and availability over time rather than treating a listed technology or a provider’s promotional performance claim as proof.
Which one should you choose?
- Consider HostPapa if you want shared hosting and place value on its advertised migration assistance and 24/7 support. Review the renewal term, total billed amount, tax and plan-specific terms before committing.
- Consider Hetzner managed web hosting if its documented backup retention and no-fixed-term arrangement suit you, and the live plan’s resources and total charges meet your needs.
- Consider a Hetzner Cloud Server only if you want server infrastructure and can take responsibility for the additional administration, or have someone who can.
Before deciding, compare the same hosting category and write down the full-term cost, included storage and other resources, backup and restore options, support channels, migration conditions and the contractual availability commitment for each exact product. The evidence supports those checks, not a categorical winner.
