Hetzner Review 2026: Pricing, Cloud vs Dedicated Servers, Locations and Support

Verdict: Hetzner remains a credible choice for technically capable teams that value transparent infrastructure pricing and control, but its 2026 changes make current plan and location checks essential. Cloud is the flexible option; dedicated servers provide predictable physical resources. The main caveats are VAT and add-on charges, uneven regional availability, billing that continues while a cloud server is merely powered off, and service terms that are narrower than a blanket uptime guarantee.

What changed at Hetzner in 2026?

Hetzner announced a product and pricing adjustment on May 27, 2026, edited June 15. The change applies to new orders and cloud rescales from June 15, 2026. Published prices exclude VAT. Existing server contracts retain their announced terms, and Hetzner states that “Currently rented servers are not affected by the price adjustment.”

The announcement says dedicated-server and cloud plans at all locations were affected. It specifically excludes web hosting, managed servers, server-auction stock, IPs, storage products, load balancers, volumes, snapshots and object storage. Check the live price list immediately before ordering because plan rates and availability can change.

Cloud and dedicated servers: which fits?

Option Best suited to What you receive Important trade-off
Hetzner Cloud Variable workloads, rapid provisioning, test environments and horizontally scalable services Virtualized server resources managed through the Cloud Console and API Resources continue billing while provisioned, even when powered off; delete the server to stop the charge
Dedicated server Steady workloads needing physical CPU, memory, storage or hardware-level control A rented physical server with standardized configurations or a requested custom solution Less elastic than Cloud and may include setup fees or separately billed network options

Hetzner says dedicated servers “are and will remain a core product within our product portfolio.” The 2026 direction is greater standardization, not abandonment of dedicated hosting.

2026 pricing and plan structure

Cloud pricing example

In Hetzner’s Germany/Finland euro table, the CX23 plan is listed at €5.49 per month excluding IPv4 and VAT after the June 15, 2026 adjustment; the prior listed rate was €3.99. This is a published list price, not a guaranteed permanent rate. Other plans and regions have different prices, so use the official table for the exact location, billing currency and IPv4 treatment.

Dedicated-server configurations

Hetzner now describes fixed variants labeled -1, -2 and -3, alongside limited hardware offers. The company says the initial fixed RAM, storage and add-on combinations were based on frequently ordered options representing approximately 90% of orders. That statistic describes ordering patterns, not performance, market share or customer satisfaction.

Custom solutions can still be requested. Where technically feasible, 10G uplinks and Dual-25G NICs can be ordered separately. Dedicated-server listings may also show setup fees, so compare the one-time fee with the recurring rental price rather than looking only at the monthly figure.

How to compare a real bill

  • Start with the current plan price for the selected region.
  • Add VAT according to your billing country.
  • Check whether IPv4, traffic, volumes, snapshots or other resources are separate line items.
  • For dedicated servers, include any setup fee and separately ordered network hardware.
  • Confirm whether the price applies to a new order, a rescale or an existing contract.

Locations and network zones

Hetzner’s location documentation lists Germany and Finland locations and identifies Cloud availability in Ashburn, Hillsboro and Singapore for eligible plan families. Hetzner owns data-center parks in Nuremberg, Falkenstein and Helsinki; its US and Singapore sites use colocation facilities.

Availability is not uniform across plans. The documentation says prices are the same across the eu-central zone but differ in us-east, us-west and ap-southeast. Traffic between network zones is billed like ordinary internet traffic. The location article was last changed in 2021, so treat it as a guide and confirm the exact option in the current Cloud Console before deployment.

Choosing a region

  • Use the nearest eligible region for latency-sensitive applications and users.
  • Keep communicating services in one network zone when possible to avoid cross-zone traffic charges.
  • Check that the required plan family, IPv4 option and storage products are offered in that region.
  • For regulated or residency-sensitive workloads, verify the facility and contract terms rather than inferring them from a country label.

Billing: powering off is not deleting

A powered-off Hetzner Cloud server remains a provisioned resource and continues to incur charges. To stop the server charge, delete the server. This matters for temporary environments, demonstrations and emergency shutdown procedures: “power off” is an operational state, not a billing cancellation.

  1. In the Cloud Console, open the project containing the server.
  2. Stop the server only when you need to preserve it for later use.
  3. When the resource is no longer required, choose the server’s delete action and confirm deletion.
  4. Review attached volumes, floating resources, snapshots and other billable objects separately; deleting a server does not automatically establish that every ancillary resource has been removed.

Support and service commitment

Support channels

Hetzner lists general customer service Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CET. It separately lists 24-hour technical telephone support every day for dedicated-server and colocation customers at Nuremberg and Falkenstein, and 24-hour English technical phone support for Helsinki. That phone channel requires a configured or one-time telephone password and is not a round-the-clock channel for every Cloud customer.

Cloud availability terms

The Cloud service agreement says Hetzner will use “commercially reasonable efforts” to provide 99.9% monthly availability for each individual Cloud Server. This is a defined contractual commitment with exclusions, not a blanket guarantee for every product or every outage consequence.

  • A qualifying customer must request a credit within 14 calendar days after the affected month.
  • The remedy is non-refundable Cloud Credits.
  • Credits are capped at 100% of the affected server’s monthly invoice.
  • Snapshots, backups, firewalls, load balancers and other ancillary services are outside the stated SLA scope.

Technical limitations to check before migration

Hetzner’s Cloud FAQ states that Cloud servers do not support secure boot, vTPM or TPM. If your operating system, compliance profile or key-management design requires those features, validate the requirement before choosing Cloud.

  • Desired Features: Front panel LED indicators for power, HDD, and LAN status monitoring allow quick, easy visual assessment. Additional utility with 2 USB 3.0 port and built-in front panel lock.

For recovery and administrative access, Hetzner provides a Debian-based rescue environment. Plan and document recovery procedures before a failure; the rescue system is an access and repair environment, not a substitute for independent backups.

Who should choose Hetzner?

Good fit

  • Engineers comfortable managing Linux systems, networking, backups and incident response.
  • Teams that want Cloud elasticity or dedicated physical capacity without a managed-service layer.
  • Workloads that can run in the regions and plan families currently offered.
  • Buyers willing to monitor resource inventory so unused servers and add-ons are deleted.

Look elsewhere or validate carefully

  • Organizations requiring secure boot, vTPM or TPM on virtual machines.
  • Teams needing managed operations or universal 24/7 support for every product.
  • Applications whose compliance, latency or data-residency requirements cannot be met by the available locations.
  • Budgets that cannot absorb VAT, setup fees, IPv4 charges or regional traffic costs.

Final assessment

Hetzner’s 2026 offering is strongest when you want infrastructure control and can manage the operational details yourself. Cloud offers fast, adjustable capacity; dedicated servers offer standardized physical configurations with custom requests still possible. Before committing, verify the live regional price, VAT, setup and add-on charges, support eligibility, hardware requirements and the deletion-based billing rule. The 99.9% Cloud term can be useful, but its exclusions, claim deadline and credit-only remedy should be part of the decision—not an assumption of comprehensive uptime protection.
