It is a single-player, first-person action survival-horror game, but its announced combination is not evidence that it is better—or more mechanically distinctive in practice—than other horror games. The full game is scheduled to release October 8, 2026.
What makes Hellraiser: Revival different?
The clearest distinction is the way the game builds its horror around Hellraiser’s own mythology. Aidan must use the Genesis Configuration to try to help his girlfriend, Sunny, escape the Labyrinth. Saber says the box’s abilities work alongside an earthly arsenal, putting a franchise-specific supernatural artifact beside conventional weapons.

That premise matters more than a broad claim that the game has unique puzzles or combat: those elements appear in other survival-horror games too. What is specifically Hellraiser is the box’s role as both a plot catalyst and a gameplay tool, set against Pinhead, the Cenobites, a cult, and the series’ interest in pain, pleasure, desire, and temptation. The depth and variety of the box’s mechanics can only be judged from the released game.
How it compares on the main survival-horror axes
| Axis | What is confirmed for Hellraiser: Revival | What that means for comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Perspective and player mode | First-person and single-player, according to Saber’s FAQ. | Compare it with a specific game’s official description or a released build; survival horror does not have one standard perspective or player mode. |
| Action and survival | Saber describes an action survival-horror game. Its announcement combines weapons with Genesis Configuration abilities; the Steam demo listing also names puzzles, crafting, and combat. | This supports calling it an announced action-oriented mix, not a claim about how much time combat takes, resource scarcity, stealth, or difficulty. |
| Signature mechanic | The Genesis Configuration is both central to the story and a source of abilities used alongside weapons. | This is the most specific announced gameplay hook. Its practical depth remains to be established in the full game. |
| Horror identity | The story draws on Cenobites and Hellraiser’s themes of pain, pleasure, desire, and temptation. Game director Emil Esov describes the Cenobites as difficult to view simply as morally bad. | The distinction is a particular franchise lens and cast of threats, rather than proof that other games lack morally complicated horror. |
| Story continuity | The game uses the Hellraiser universe, but its plot is not directly connected to the first two films. | It is a new story in the universe, not a direct film adaptation or established continuation of either film’s plot. |
| Content profile | The developer’s Steam content notice lists strong violence, gore, torture, consensual mutilation, substance use, non-explicit consensual sex, and narrative themes including suicide, domestic abuse, BDSM practices, and addiction. | This is useful for deciding whether the game’s material suits you; it is the developer’s notice, not a separate ratings-board judgment. |
Is it connected to the Hellraiser movies?
It is set in the Hellraiser universe and draws on the first two films’ atmosphere, themes, and mythology, but it tells a new story. In a July 22, 2025 Xbox Wire interview, executive producer Nenad Tomic said the game’s plot “is not directly connected to the movies.” Clive Barker was deeply involved in the game’s creative development, according to Tomic. Doug Bradley returns as Pinhead, according to the publisher’s announcement.

Release, platforms, and demo
As of October 7, 2026, the game is scheduled to release tomorrow, October 8. Saber’s current FAQ lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. Its earlier 2025 reveal named PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; the later FAQ adds Switch 2. Check the relevant store for current regional availability.
A free Steam demo released September 17, 2026. Its listing says it covers the prologue and part of Episode 1, introduces puzzle solving, crafting, and combat, and does not transfer progress to the full game. The listing also warns that this prerelease build may contain bugs, performance issues, or work-in-progress content.

How long is Hellraiser: Revival?
Saber estimates a playthrough at around 8–12 hours in its FAQ. This is a developer estimate, not independently measured completion data. Saber also says an internet connection is not required and that it has no post-launch-content plans “at this time”; the latter status may change.
