The Helio G81 is the stronger chip in the available benchmark comparison, despite the G36’s higher listed peak CPU clock. The key difference is architecture: the G81 pairs two Cortex-A75 performance cores with six Cortex-A55 cores, while the G36 has eight older Cortex-A53 cores. Both are 12nm, 4G platforms, and benchmark aggregates favor the G81—but they are based on uneven samples rather than matched tests in identical phones.
What is the difference between the Helio G81 and G36?
The G81 uses a mixed-core CPU design and a Mali GPU; the G36 uses eight Cortex-A53 CPU cores and a PowerVR GPU. Their core layouts explain why the G36’s higher advertised peak clock does not automatically make it faster. Clock speed is only one part of CPU performance; core design also matters.

These are platform capabilities, not a promise that every phone using a chip will include the maximum memory, display resolution or refresh rate. Phone makers choose the actual components and configure cooling, battery, software and other hardware. MediaTek lists the Helio G81 specifications and Helio G36 specifications on its product pages.

NanoReview’s Helio G81 vs Helio G36 comparison was accessed in 2026. Its displayed aggregates can change as results are added. The sample counts are limited and differ by chip, and device conditions may not match, so treat the scores as directional evidence that favors the G81—not as a guaranteed score or a universal performance multiplier. Compare scores only within the same benchmark version; results from different versions are not directly interchangeable.

The G81 has the stronger-looking graphics platform on paper: its listed GPU is the Mali-G52 MC2, while the G36 uses the PowerVR GE8320. The available benchmark comparison also favors the G81 overall. That supports choosing a G81-based phone when other factors are similar, but the sources do not establish a matched gaming test or frame-rate result for the two chips.
Actual gaming performance depends on the specific phone, including its cooling, memory configuration, screen resolution and software. A chip’s listed GPU frequency alone cannot predict how long a handset will sustain performance or how smoothly a particular game will run.

What should you check when choosing between phones?
Because these are platform comparisons rather than specific handset reviews, the chip name cannot settle which phone is the better buy. Check the actual models’ price and configuration, and weigh the features that shape day-to-day use:
- Memory and storage capacity in the exact configuration for sale.
- Display resolution and refresh rate actually implemented by the phone.
- Battery capacity and real-world battery performance.
- Software version and the manufacturer’s support policy.
- Cooling and sustained performance under demanding workloads.
- Connectivity and other handset features you need.
Both platforms support 4G, so neither is a 5G option based on these specifications. MediaTek’s Helio Series listing places them in its smartphone platform range; the specific phone’s implementation remains the deciding factor for features and experience.
